All the staff have been very pleasant and helpful. We would highly recommend it. We enjoyed the trips and entertainment. The family were impressed on their visits. Mother and I were made to feel very welcome. The events manager has told me to phone before we next come and she will arrange transport
and events for us in advance.

Thank you for your positive review. I am delighted that the respite stay was enjoyed and that we look forward to the next visit to the unit.

Food sometimes bland and not enough to do. Need more singing or something. Staff are great.

Thank you for your comments. I assure you I will share your information with staff. We are about to embark on a menu planning programme, which I would be delighted if you would be willing to be part of. I am delighted with the experience my father has had since moving here in Jan 2016. Being surrounded by lush countryside and woodlands provides an added bonus. The care my father has received has exceeded my expectations on all levels. The staff are caring and attentive- always smiling and display discretion
and patience which is very important when caring for a dementia sufferer. My father often comments about how good the food is and has a good rapport with the staff. A credit to the care industry.

My aunt lived here for many years but she has sadly passed away now. The only complaint that I would have had is there is not enough activities for the residents.

Reply from Darren Kelly, General Manager at Lower Johnshill

Many thanks for your review. The Home has increased its focus on activities of late, with improvements in availability of our Social Care Facilitators, improvements in our training programme, improved efforts in dementia focussed activities and ensuring staff are aware of responsibilities, in relation to the social aspect of our care provision.

On the whole, everything runs very smoothly and staff and residents interact well. Wheelchairs are rather antiquated on the whole and cushions not always provided. Social facilitation are excellent and goes"above and beyond" to make residents happy and occupied. House is well maintained and always clean
(no smells!).

I will share these with all of our colleagues at the Home.

In relation to your point about our wheelchairs, we are currently undertaking a maintenance and replacement programme which will quickly alleviate the issues raised.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.109)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.109) out of 10 for Lower Johnshill is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.632 for Lower Johnshill is calculated as follows: ( (72 Excellents x 5) + (29 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 106 Ratings = 4.632

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.477 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Lower Johnshill is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 78 registered maximum number of service users is 15.6. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 15.6 = 0.577

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
