Kirk House offers 24-hour care with privacy, independence and companionship whilst acknowledging each resident’s individuality. It is situated in the east of the city, approximately six miles from the centre of Belfast in a well-established residential area with a regular bus service and bus stops located close to Kirk House.

Kirk House is located on two floors and the second floor is easily reached by stairs or a centrally located passenger lift. Handrails and ramps are provided and corridors are suitable for wheelchair use. The grounds are laid out in lawns and flowerbeds, with patio and seating areas providing for ease of access.

A range of flatlets are available. Four of them have been designed for couples, two of which are suitable for disabled residents.

There are four communal living rooms with dining areas that are furnished and equipped to a comfortable standard. Each living room is situated beside a group of ten flatlets. This is to allow residents to eat and meet together in smaller groups and so keep Kirk House intimate and enable residents to retain their individual dignity and privacy.

It is Kirk House's aim to offer and maintain a warm, relaxed and homely environment, where residents view Kirk House as their home rather than somewhere they live because they may need help and support. This has been achieved by combining good accommodation with a responsible and flexible personal care service.

Kirk House has now adapted one corridor of flatlets into 'Memory Lane', providing care for people living with dementia. This corridor of nine flatlets which are the same size and layout as the flats in the main building, have been refurbished with design features to support research-based approaches for people with dementia. The staff team have completed specialist Dementia Care training.

Mum moved into Memory Lane November 2024. Her Flatlet is lovely. It has been personalised with furniture photos and ornaments from her home. Mum likes to sit in the Dayroom as she loves company. She enjoys the Chair Exercises, Church Services and getting her nails and hair done every week. The Staff
are brilliant. They look after Mum and she is well cared for. Mum feels safe and we have peace of mind knowing she is safe. They also look after us. Cups of tea in Dining room or if Mum has visitors in her Flatlet they bring tea. I would definitely recommend Kirk House.

I decided to enter residential care because of loneliness and as I fractured my back, I could not cope at home even with help. I have been in Kirk House for eighteen months and I have found the experience very suited to my needs. If I need care it is readily available but I am encouraged to be as independent
as possible. I deal with my own medication but senior carers will always help if I have any problems. It has been a good decision for me as my life has changed so much since the death of my husband after 66 years of marriage, I am as happy as I can be!

The care, staff and facilities in Kirk House are excellent. I had confidence that my parents were looked after with dignity and kindness. I was kept informed of their health and well-being at all times. I'll always be very grateful for the care provided by the staff in Kirk House. Many, many thanks.

Kirk House has kept our mum alive. She has been a resident for over 7 years and she has been very happy. When she first arrived she loved being cared for, and food provided, and she loved her independence too. She would regularly walk to a particular place and back. She joined in many of the different
activities and made such good friends. The Kirk House staff became her friends.
At age 96, she sadly needs more care than Kirk House can provide. You know that this is such a great residential home when the staff cry when a resident leaves. Kirk House is family. I would highly recommend it to anyone considering residential care.

We agree completely that the unique thing about Kirk House is the sense of family about it. Credit to the staff and to residents for keeping this alive.

I have been visiting Kirk House for 14 years and for me, it is a truly wonderful home. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The place is amacuatly clean. It's a home that I would want to live in myself in my twilight years. I simply cannot speak highly enough of this home and every person I have encountered
there. I'm also greatly impressed with how the home does so much in terms of activities for the residents and also in collecting for various charities. Many thanks to you all.

My mum has been a resident in Kirk House for nearly two years. In the last few months, she has moved to the memory lane corridor and has settled in very well. She has a lovely room and speaks well of everyone. She loves the food and the common living area where she has company. The staff are very kind
and caring and there is a lovely family atmosphere. I know my mum feels safe there and I have great peace knowing that she is being well cared for and I am very grateful that she is in such a good care home.

Kirk House is a gem. Staff are caring, kind, professional and supportive of residents and their families. Flatlets are a real home.
My mother has been very happy here for a year, it is her home. She loves the staff, her friends and her flatlet. She enjoys the different activities and the community
at meal times. I couldn’t recommend Kirk House enough.

Kirk House has cared for my mother for four years, all through the pandemic and the care she gets every day is second to none. My brother and I are alerted straight away should they have any concerns, no matter how small.
When she reached the age of 100, Kirk House very kindly offered to let the family
celebrate together on the premises and nothing was too much bother for the staff.
I would highly recommend Kirk House to anyone looking for a very comfortable, spotless, well-run nursing home with tremendous staff.

I cannot recommend Kirk House highly enough. The management team and staff are second to none, providing genuine care and support not only to my mum but to our family as we navigate Mum's dementia journey. The accommodation is perfect. The flatlet means that my mum has her own 'home' which has been
personalised with furniture and pictures from her house and provides a comforting and familiar environment for her. She has the benefit of having her own space when she wants it but also has lots of opportunities to socialise and take part in activities in the Memory Lane lounge and with other residents in the common room. Mum particularly enjoys attending the Church services.
The set up in Memory Lane and other 'corridors' where each area has its own lounge for dining and activities creates a 'family type' environment and that along with the excellent care, compassion and friendliness of staff makes it a very warm and cheering place to live.

After a difficult couple of years due to Covid and not being able to visit my mother during this time, I think she has come through this time as well as can be expected with the help of the staff’s ability to protect the residents.

My mother has been a resident at Kirk House for several years and has been very happy living there. She regularly comments on how well she is looked after by the staff and says that she would not still be alive (age 101 at time of writing) if she were not living there. They have had tremendous difficulties
over the past two years with Covid restrictions but have managed to cope with the stresses of that well. The residents have their own self contained room but also socialise with the other residents at mealtimes and for the various activities that occur daily within the home.

My grandmother has been a resident at Kirk House for 6 months. Every single interaction I have had with staff has been positive, they have treated my gran with compassion, care and respect. The home is clean, structured and has a personal/friendly feel to it. The staff are attentive and have brought
issues we would not have noticed to myself and my gran's other care partners attention. My gran was on the waiting list for quite a while, but well worth the wait.

I can’t recommend Kirk House highly enough. The home has a lovely atmosphere, it is bright and the rooms are some of the best I have seen. The staff are helpful and take great care of the residents. We know that our family member is in safe hands, known and well looked after which brings us so much
reassurance. Generally, it does feel to be best for residents who still have a degree of independence and autonomy (although it also has Memory Lane which is designed for residents with Dementia).

Kirk House provides a wonderful service that promotes independence while having the security of staff in attendance 24 hours and meals provided. In my experience, the staff engage with my mother with kindness, patience and humour, which means a lot to her and makes all the difference to her sense of
worth, dignity and general quality of life. The managers are also patient with family members and the staff are polite and friendly (we can be a pain at times). I think there has been a change of chef and I sense that the menu and food available has improved. Communication is good. Some of the rules during Covid that in effect have restricted liberty, seem illogical and unnecessary, but I understand these may have been imposed from elsewhere and the staff has worked hard to prevent the spread of illness.

My mum has been a resident in Kirk House now for four years. The staff have been excellent in identifying and caring for her needs and making her feel at home. The care manager and her team have conducted themselves brilliantly throughout the pandemic, thus ensuring the health and safety of residents. Every effort has been made to facilitate visits by family members, communication has been excellent and individual enquiries dealt with efficiently. In particular,
the roll-out of the vaccination programme has been first class. I am confident that my mother is in good hands and have no hesitation in recommending Kirk House as an exceptional care home.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.710)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.710) out of 10 for Kirk House, Belfast is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.832 for Kirk House, Belfast is calculated as follows: ( (89 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 107 Ratings = 4.832

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.878 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Kirk House, Belfast is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 46 registered maximum number of service users is 9.2. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.2 = 0.978

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
