My dad has been a resident for the past few months. He is well cared for and is content in his own quiet way. His room is lovely and the staff all treat him with dignity and gentleness. We are kept up to date by management and also by following the social media page where we can see Dad engaging in
various activities. It is a huge relief to us that Dad is in such good hands and it has made what was a very difficult time in our family's life that bit easier.

Great staff and great care and attention to residents. Well looked after home, clean and tidy. Great location for residents for walks and views of the lough and surrounding wildlife. Always plenty of activities for residents to enjoy and partake in. All in all, a great wee home.

Such a caring care home. Residents are treated with dignity and respect. Visitors are made welcome and staff are always available to answer any questions. So thankful for this lovely home where I know that my friend is receiving excellent support and care in every way. I have absolutely no concerns
or issues and my friend has settled so well and is very happy. Thank you, everyone, you do an amazing job and are appreciated.

My mother had a very happy experience during the year and a half in Barrhall. She enjoyed the company and the activities and had a peacefulness she had lost at home. When it became clear that she required nursing care they were very patient and continued to care for her until we found a suitable placement
- they really went above and beyond. In fact, they went above and beyond the whole time she was there.

My mum has lived in Barrhall Home for 6 years. She feels it is her home, before Covid when she had visitors she would often say “now you call in anytime". This always made me feel she had found her happy place. This past year has been very difficult with restrictions Barrhall has made great efforts
to accommodate some sort of visiting at the very least to be able to see our loved ones. The staff go above and beyond to keep spirits up and are always so pleasant no matter what they are dealing with. Barrhall has a beautiful setting but it’s what’s inside that counts and I am so grateful for how they care for my precious mummy.

My mother has been a resident since September 2019. The care and service in Barrhall is exceptional, all the staff very kind and caring they are amazing. There is so much on for the resident's parties, activities and entertainment, the food looks fantastic as well. The home is immaculate inside and
out with wonderful views of the loch. The staff are so helpful and obliging to the relations too.

Barrhall Home became our family. They cared for my mother like their own. They made us all feel welcome and helped through the most difficult days of dementia. The staff always went out of their way to make us feel comfortable with our new way of spending time with Mum.

My brother entered Barrhall Home in December 2019. As a family, we were worried how he would react to moving into a care home. From the moment he walked in he thought he was in a beautiful hotel with amazing views.
My brother settled in very well. The staff were very good to him, and he just loved
having a bit of craic with them. The food was excellent - homemade cakes and pastries. My brother joined the staff on occasions to enjoy a late-night Chinese takeaway. It was a home from home experience.
Communication during Covid-19 lockdowns was regular, always informative and personal. The manager should take pride in the way that she keeps relatives informed about their loved ones - regular phone calls, texts, photographs, etc.
Unfortunately, my brother’s care needs changed and he is now in nursing care.
To finish I would like to say that my father was a resident in Barrhall in 2006. He was looked after very well also. Some of the staff are still there from that time.

If older age means I need another place to call home I would choose Barrhall, it has so many pluses it should be the blueprint for care homes.
The genuine kindness, compassion and consideration of the manager and all the staff permeates the place and makes it a really special interconnected community
that works with empathy and joy.
Both my parents were residents, initially, after diagnosed with Alzheimer, my Mother went for some day respite visits and later moved in. When it was necessary for full-time care for Dad the manager helped facilitate him to be in the same place as Mum. As well as lovely staff being able to personalise their rooms with their own familiar artefacts helped them settle in.
Prior to the pandemic visitors were always made welcome and after visits were stopped, or limited by Covid restrictions, staff were sensitive to the emotional difficulties involved and kept in touch with photos and messages. Kindness, activities and professionalism: all abundant at
Barrhall.

When my mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2016, she started having some respite day care at Barrhall Home to give my father a breather. She was made very welcome so when she needed full-time care a year later we were delighted that she was offered a place. As I live in England, it was so reassuring
that she was in such a friendly and caring home where nothing was ever too much trouble for the staff. I loved how they also made Dad welcome when he visited her, showing great care and concern for him too. About a year later, when he needed residential care himself, it was with great relief to know that he could join Mum at Barrhall Home as I knew how well he would be looked after. His room had a wonderful view of his beloved Strangford Lough. It was some comfort, when he passed away 12 months later, that he and Mum were able to share time together till the end. I felt really sad saying goodbye to the lovely Barrhall family when the time came to move Mum to a nursing home in August 2020.

My husband has a rare type of dementia, and it brings particular challenges. He has a behavioural variant of frontal temporal lobe dementia and most care providers were unable to offer him daycare. I knew immediately that Barrhall was a great choice. The manager and her team are caring, patient, but
most of all kind. Any home can offer activities, practical support and appropriate space and facilities, but you'll not find the warmth and compassion that this team affords to every resident/client and their families. I honestly can't recommend them highly enough. A first-class provider in every aspect.

My mother first resided in BarrHall for respite care during 2020; she became a permanent resident last autumn. The care she receives is first class and I feel that she is living in the best possible environment to meet her needs. The staff are friendly, kind and gentle and display professional skill
and personalized attention. The food is simply excellent; the accommodation is comfortable and attractive and the location on the shore of Strangford Lough is perfect! My mother is happy and settled and looks marvellous at the age of 94!

In 2020 we made the heartbreaking decision to move mum to a care home and she arrived in Barrhall on 17 Aug. We were so worried that she would fret or feel abandoned but very early on we realised she was settling in really well, totally due to the outstanding care provided by the wonderful staff, as
well as the company of the other residents. Barrhall is a small and personal care home and prides itself in treating residents as individuals. Meals are created to suit all tastes and activities are also a part of day to day life, which has been great for our fun loving mum! The staff go way beyond the call of duty, giving personalised care to all the residents. Nothing is too much trouble and over lockdown when visiting has been restricted, they have kept us in touch with regular phone and facetime calls. The staff understand we want mum to be safe, well cared for and happy and that's what they want too! Thank you Barrhall for everything, we couldn't wish for anywhere better for mum xx

My Aunt was a resident in BarrHall for 4 years prior to her death and I really couldn't have asked for better care for her. Nothing was too much trouble, staff were very friendly and the surroundings are very homely. The view of Strangford Lough and the Mournes is spectacular too. Would highly recommend
to anyone, you really won't find better.

My father is a resident in Barrhall and at first, the family wondered if we were doing the right thing. As my father now needed 24 hour care we had to do something. Since the very first day of entering Barrhall, it was obvious we had picked the right place. The staff are more like an extended family,
every time we visit the residents are either doing arts and craft work or singing and dancing. The place is always full of happy smiling faces. My father has fitted in so well and is really content. If there is any cause for concern, we are contacted immediately by the Barrhall staff. During this terrible time with covid, Barrhall has been very strict with visits, which I totally agree with as they put the residents first every time. But we are updated on a regular basis and receive photos and videos of our loved ones. The staff will go out of their way to let you have video calls or phone calls. Before covid, the minute you were through the door they had tea or coffee and home made buns. Brilliant.

The staff are so kind and thoughtful not only to the visitors but the lovely people that need their help in caring for them. No matter when you are there, the staff always have time for you and the person you are visiting, so much so that when the patients time is up, you still want to call and see
everyone. My mum used this home and loved it. It is a beautiful home, well laid out and in such a scenic setting.

My father was taken into Barrhall just before lockdown. We went for several months without seeing him, but the staff were really great and kept us up to date with everything that was going on. They sent photos and updates on a regular basis, and I was made to feel that my feelings mattered to them.
I couldn’t ask for better care for him and I would highly recommend Barrhall.

Because of lockdown, I have not had open access but Mum and I visited several times before so were familiar with the warm family - type atmosphere, good facilities and the care shown by staff to each resident. Since lockdown, I have visited Mum a few times by prior appointment and am assured by her
of the good care she is receiving. Family members have been encouraged to maintain telephone and face time contact with their loved ones. Barrhall is a high-quality care home with extremely kind, caring and professional staff led by the Manager who demonstrates a client-centred approach to care. Mum has a Memory Book which is unique to her and her life experiences and she is encouraged to participate in whatever pastime and activity is offered. The home normally offers a wide range of social and leisure activities which have had to be curtailed during Covid 19 but residents still engage in baking, painting, games and dancing/singing. Staff ensure all Mum's physical care needs are well met.
