It was my mothers 90th birthday party. The family was offered a room in the home to celebrate her big day. The room was good size which led out to a conservatory to the garden. We were unable to celebrate until nearly 10 pm without any interruptions. Very lovely, special occasion. Mum and family enjoyed
it very much. Thank you.

My mother went to Alexander in February 2013 requiring nursing care, over the next almost 6 years she was shown kindness, as she slowly slipped away from us with her dementia. Her dignity was always maintained, the staff always made us feel welcome, everyone had a smile and wave for us. We would like
to say thank to all of the teams working in the kitchen, laundry, cleaners, entertainment, carers and nursing staff. Sadly mum passed in October and we will never forget how grateful we are for the care that she was given. We had the luxury of leaving her in the home knowing that she would be well cared for.

Having looked at several care homes, we decided that Alexander Care home was the best. We are impressed with the "homely" feel and the care shown by staff. It is a friendly environment that really does feel like "mum's home". I have been impressed at the quality of food - well done for cooking everything
on site - no pre-cooked meals.

I am extremely pleased with the accommodation and the layout of the building. The rooms are clean and efficient. The building is also clean, tidy and smells nice. The garden is lovely and spacious. The staff are polite and welcoming alongside the manager. I would be extremely happy to have my family

Building and gardens - Excellent, bright and positive.
Reception - Doorbell entry, very frustrating (and exit too).
Room: Good size, cleaned to a good level.
Communication - use email and text more (Especially in urgent cases).
Resident management - Best when mum was at her most ill. Regular reviews/advice
by a nominated person would be helpful (too casual).
Overall, very good - mum was happy there.
Food - Bland and unimaginative but plentiful.
Visitor - Friendly and welcoming.

Safety and access to the front door were discussed in the previous Residents and relatives meeting an agreed that no visitors or family members will have the door access code. This is to ensure Residents are not able to leave the building inadvertently when visitors are leaving the premises. In relation to the food that was served in the home, as an organisation, we follow a set of 4 weekly rolling menu that was planned with suggestions and ideas from Residents and relatives. We also consulted nutritionists and dieticians to ensure that all our Residents have a healthy and balanced diet. I am glad to hear that, in general, you are happy and satisfied with the highest standard of care and dignity maintained for your relative during the last days of her life. Once again thank you for taking the time to contact us and we will take it on board to continue in improving our service.

The staff were consistently helpful and cheerful which created a good atmosphere. They showed patience and consideration when residents were distressed. The care on the first floor was very good and much more focused as it needed to be than downstairs. My main area of criticism would be the food which
tended to be dull and tasteless. In general, my mother-in-law was well cared for and ended her days with dignity.

I would highly recommend Alexander Care Home in Ladywell. The staff took great care of my Granddad and his sister. Although it was a new experience for all of us, the staff and other residents quickly came to feel like extended family. You can stay for mealtimes or book in for a Sunday lunch. The home
has a wonderful garden with squirrels and foxes providing great entertainment through the parlour windows.
The bedrooms are cozy and if you need anything you just have to ask. There is parking on site.


I am very grateful for all of their hard work.

My wife's aunt is in the care of Alexander Care Home. We visited with her brother and sister for her aunt's 105th birthday. This was our first visit and I was impressed with the facilities and staff and the trouble they had gone to to make this a special day for auntie. Unfortunately, Auntie cannot
hear and sees poorly so she was unaware of what is going on around her.
However, at that great age, she is in the best place for care and safety.

Since I've been visiting my ex-husband here during the past year I have found the staff extremely kind and helpful. Always welcoming with a smile and a kind word.

Alexander Care Home is a very good care home, most of the staff are very good there is just a few who show that it just classed as a job without the care I have known that a few do not communicate well with visitors and actually show that there is no interest in the residents which I find is sad. I
also notice there is a shortage of staff on the first floor, especially at weekends.
It has been said that there is a choice of food, as long as I have been visiting my mother, my mother has not been offered a choice of food. I would also like to point out when has Semolina has been classed as an evening meal, as when I was a child I was given that as a pudding not as a main meal.

The Home Manager has spoken with the team to reiterate how important communication with family and friends is and the organisation's expectations of this. The Home Manager has spent time with you regarding the staffing grid of the home and has explained how staffing is determined on each unit. Staffing is based on the dependencies of our Residents and reviewed at least monthly or as and when individuals needs change. The Home Manager has met with the Chef and the kitchen team regarding the menu specifically regarding the evening and supper meal times to ensure that meals provided are according to HC-One's approved menu choices; this will continue to be monitored by the Management Team.

I think the care at the home is very good and staff are excellent. I would like to make one recommendation for patients who are bedbound and unable to be lifted to the lounge.
Please could a small amount of time, say 30 minutes, once or twice a week be allocated to be spent (one to one time) with those
patients, so they have some type of activity time.
This could be a hand massage, nail painting, card making, etc.
The number of residents bed bound is about ten on the first floor and it is sad they miss out on activities as they are unable to move from their rooms.
It would be great to improve their quality of life.

With regards to our Residents who stay in their bedrooms, the Wellbeing Coordinator schedules one to one time to engage with these Residents as per our schedule of activities. These activities include Reminiscing and Down Memory Lane, newspaper and magazine reading, pampering and massage. We also have regular visits from local religious and spiritual organisations who provide communion and blessings to all Residents including those who remain in their rooms, if they so wish. To ensure our Residents are supported with social engagement and to improve our service, we are currently recruiting for an additional fulltime Wellbeing Coordinator. Thank you for your kind praise of our staff and care provision, we are very proud of our staff team and the work they undertake to ensure our Residents needs are met.

My mum is always so happy when we visit her. The staff are so welcoming to visitors. There is always plenty going on, Mum is so well cared for and the staff cater to her individual needs.


We love the coffee area and the little touches of lovely soap and hand cream in the visitors' toilet and even

a scented candle.

Wow, what a fantastic care home it's the best in the South East. The management and staff are so caring and very professional. The home is spotlessly clean, the food is of top standard. The care these people show is unbelievable. I visited a number of care homes but none of them can compare to Alexander

Alexander Care Home, it is one of the best residential homes. The staff and management are of a high quality, very caring to not only residents but family too. It is clean, safe and the management are fantastic, nothing is too much trouble, the carers are fully qualified to top standards. My mother

What does ‘kindness’ mean to you?


“To me, kind care is enriching Residents’ lives and making them feel as comfortable as possible at all times.”


As a Registered Nurse with over 17 years’ experience, San has gained a wealth of experience in providing care and nursing support to elderly people, to enrich their lives. He is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest standards in care and quality of life for Residents.


San closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for each and every Resident. He extends this caring approach to his Colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to Residents in a way that they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


He also works hard to arrange events and activities with nearby schools and clubs and is always keen to include the local community in life at Alexander.


When asked what he enjoys most about his role, San remarked: “The best thing about my job is seeing Residents with a smile on their faces. It means the world to know they are happy with the care we provide to them.”
