Rathmore House is a quality care home with specialist care for people living with dementia.

Situated in a quiet residential street in the Swiss Cottage district of Camden, Rathmore House is an ivy-covered, Grade II listed Edwardian building with an attractive landscaped front and back garden. A renovation in early 2014 transformed the interior of the home, which now boasts contemporary furnishings, stylish print wallpaper and state-of-the-art facilities.

Rathmore House offers its residents an inspirational life, filled with meaningful activities and supported by care staff committed to C&C's Principles of Care, which promise respect, independence and dignity.

The focus is on an ‘Out Not In’ approach that looks holistically at both mind and body acknowledging that engagement with society and nature is key to experiencing life. It uses everyday events to stimulate and maintain cognitive function and uses retained conditioned behaviour as a tool to encourage engagement and reduce anxiety.

Rathmore House is an excellent care home where many residents have advanced dementia. It is run as a home, not an institution. The house is comfortable - in some ways as if a country hotel. The staff are very good and caring. The previous manager was excellent but the new one, whom I have seen over
several months with my dad and other residents, has a magic quality and is the best carer I have ever seen. Somehow she is able to do this while also managing the home and staff. No hesitation in recommending.

Whilst the individual staff are good to superb and overall are all that one could wish for, staffing levels are inadequate given the current resident mix with some very high maintenance individuals, who require constant supervision so that they don't hurt themselves or others. This needs to be addressed,
as I have witnessed more frequent episodes of distressing behaviour in the last six months, than ever and in view of the above-inflation increases in charges is not on.

Rathmore House has been a great choice for my mother. It has a family feel to it and is not like an institution. I have always felt that my mother is cared for with kindness and consideration. The quality of the food and the individual time spent with residents, talking to them and interacting rather
than just taking care of their physical needs could be improved.


I have always felt able to talk to the Senior Team at Rathmore House about problems or worries as they occur and they have always been helpful and have taken things on board.


The quality of the staff varies of course - and whilst most are incredibly kind and thorough - occasionally things could be done much better.
Given that (rather like in a family!) there are good days and bad days - overall I really appreciate my mother living at Rathmore House and don't know what we would have done without it. I feel very at home when I visit and the new manager is full of optimism and ideas about improvements.

My mother-in-law has only been in Rathmore House for a short time but it has been remarkably successful. We thought that putting her in a care home was the least bad option because with Alzheimer's disease she needs full-time care but hated the carers at home and was stressed and miserable. Rather than
'least bad', it has been an unambiguously good option for her to move to Rathmore House. She briefly resisted as she was frightened, not knowing what to expect and put off by her initial response to living with others with and in some cases, more florid dementia but now she is extremely happy there. The staff are caring and delightful. She feels more free than she did at home and it has woken up her caring side, having been a GP in her working life. She actively likes the people there, carers and residents alike and she now helps the people who are more disabled than she is.
This is clearly giving her a self-respect that she had lost. Even after a weekend away, she was delighted to return.

I cannot praise Rathmore House enough! With my father as a current resident, he is looked after to the highest standard by caring, hardworking and wonderful carers and staff! The compassion to both residents and families of residents is second to none and my whole family feel like an included part of
Rathmore House, like family! From cleanliness, amazing food, care, support, accommodation rooms, management and staff organization, I feel Rathmore House is a superb care home and could not ask for better. When you see such hard-working, caring people looking after one of your relatives, I honestly can't praise enough as that is all you so strongly want for them. Staff go above and beyond each and every day for both residents and families reassuring us that my family's views are very important and that we are included at every level of care. You simply cannot ask for more for a loved one! Truly magnificent on all levels and Rathmore House holds a big place in my family's heart.

My father has only recently moved into the care home. All the staff seem very friendly and the home has calm/happy atmosphere. I am however concerned about plans to change the management structure to remove the deputy manager. All my managerial contact - from first enquiry to move in have been with
the deputy. The role and individual is pivotal to the way this home runs. Please re-consider.

Overall we are extremely happy with the care our relative receives at Rathmore House. The staff are always welcoming and friendly and engage with residents despite being bogged down with paperwork. There is room for improvement at times with wearing of other peoples clothes or not being dressed with
care - usually at weekends. It would be helpful for there to be photos of staff displayed with names so that visitors know who people are. Generally we feel really positive and grateful to Rathmore House.

A trainer and mentor in the application of Positive Behaviour Support and an experienced practitioner, Sheriff is well-versed in supporting service users with varying needs, including Learning Disabilities and psychological and behavioural concerns.


Sheriff has a great passion for the residents and loves to make a difference in their lives. He achieves this with empathy, patience, kindness, and the utmost respect and is dedicated to fostering a culture of growth, resilience, and inclusivity.

I have over 26 years’ experience in the health and social care sector, with the Registered Manager Award and NVQ Level 4 and have worked in various managerial roles.


I have had the pleasure of working at Rathmore House for 21 years, it is a beautiful Grade 2 listed building with a lovely homely atmosphere. I have been in my present post as Deputy Manager for 10 years, I have various knowledge, skills and experience I can bring to my role along with providing support to my manager, staff team, residents their relatives/friends and multidiscipline teams.


I have worked with various client groups over this time but have a particular interest and really passionate when it comes to working with people living with dementia. Along with all other staff in the home our aim is to provide our residents with a high standard of care and services, meeting their individual needs whilst encouraging and enabling them to maintain their independence and quality of life.


I am passionate about developing and empowering others to provide the best care to our residents and in reaching their own personal potential, whilst promoting and delivering our organisations values and objectives.


I have various hobbies and interests; interior design, DIY, reading, politics, music, travelling and most importantly socialising with friends and family, I like to incorporate these into my work when and where possible.

Alice Chaampa

My name is Alice Chaampa and I am the Administrator at Rathmore House where I have worked since March 2021. I started my career with Central & Cecil in 2019 as a Care Assistant at Compton Lodge – one of our other care homes – and previous to that I was an Administrator at the National Assembly which is a part of the Parliament in my Country.


I have a passion to make a difference in people’s lives. My work experience, family life and voluntary commitments have inevitably given me the opportunity to transfer my skills to my current position. I am self-motivated, reliable, patient, compassionate, enthusiastic, hard-working and always willing to help and learn from others.


My daily satisfaction - other than being a mother - is making that small difference in a person’s life: be that our residents, their loved ones and any other person that I come into contact with through my work.


Outside of my working profession I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Development Studies. In my free time I love music, cooking, family time and going to the cinema.


I love working at Rathmore and being part of the team.
