The Highgate Care Home provides nursing and residential care for both older people with complex care needs and younger adults with physical disabilities. Convalescence (recovering from an operation), respite and palliative care plans are also available, advanced bookings for short stay accepted. Same day assessments and admissions can be accommodated.

Situated within large landscaped gardens in the picturesque village of Highgate, the home features tastefully decorated interiors. Accommodation includes bright and comfortable lounge areas that are ideal for entertaining or simply relaxing, as well as furnished bedrooms, some with ensuite facilities and balconies overlooking the gardens.

Residents can choose from a wide range of meal options each day, all of which are freshly prepared with seasonal ingredients. Special occasions for residents are always celebrated and often involve a homemade cake! The home also provides Kosher food.

There's a real sense of community at The Highgate. The staff work to discover what residents enjoy doing and the home's social calendar is organised around those interests. So whether loved ones already have a hobby or would like to take up a new one, there are lots of exciting activities to get involved in. From flower arranging and movie afternoons to beauty mornings and visiting entertainers and shows - there is a full social calendar. I only have praise for the home and the way they have been treating my father and family. English is not my father's first language and the care team, and it really is a team, have made every effort to ensure my father is comfortable, looked after and happy. The care team ensure his needs are met and
any request from him and his family is never too much to ask. Excellent staff, reliable, friendly, helpful but at the same time, professional.

I have been living at The Highgate for approx 4 years now I feel content and feel well looked after, my room is comfortable. I recently went out on a trip to Southend on Sea which I thoroughly enjoyed very very much. I enjoy going down to music on a Thursday and enjoy participating in the music at all
times, I also like to participate with my music skills when we have musical events. Most times the food is good, however, I would like more Caribbean food offered to me.

I feel good in my new room it’s very spacious and enjoying my new bed. The carers are fully aware of my needs and I feel at times I’m well looked after. Sometimes the food is ok other times it lacks variation. I enjoy the one to one music interaction on a Thursday and at times enjoying singing with
him. When I do feel well enough I enjoy being creative in the art group run by another resident.

A friend of mine used the respite service, and therefore on several occasions, I visited The Highgate. I found the home very welcoming with a real sense of compassion. The environment was clean and tidy with a real sense of warmth. The periods my friend spent there were very enjoyable.

It is difficult to write a clear review and I have no previous experience to make a comparison. Some things are very subjective. The home is very comfortable, well-run, well-staffed and welcoming. The importance of a smile on the face of a carer is vital to one's well-being, especially when feeling
vulnerable. This was only occasionally lacking. The only activity I attended was the poetry session, which was very good. The only complaint was from various friends who found difficulty in getting through to the room phone, even with the right extension. I appreciated the phone, but the system needs improvement. Also, some things went to the laundry but never came back, including the important DVT stockings, which I can't replace.

I came first to The Highgate care home after an operation for cancer. Throughout my time here I have been impressed by the warmth, kindness and efficiency of all the staff.
In addition that the activities are designed to stimulate not really pass the time. I have already recommended the home to many
people, the way in which every possible anniversary, national or international is celebrated, keeps us alert and feeling still part of the world.
In general, I find the food is very good and rooms are very comfortable and well taken care of.
I'm particularly impressed with the home manager who greets us all with genuine warmth which sets the standard for everyone.

On arrival at the home, I didn't feel greeted. Nobody came out to meet me or visit me early in my room.

I came unexpectedly as a result of an emergency (hip operation) and needed to find respite care. I was welcomed at every level and looked after carefully especially in the early post-op days when I could not bring myself to eat anything. I found the presence of nursing staff in charge of each floor
very reassuring and all staff have been cooperative, helpful in suggesting solutions to my temporary problem of "homelessness" and in liaising with other aspects as necessary. Nice atmosphere.

The Highgate Nursing Home's management is excellent. It is a testament to the manager and deputy manager that they keep their staff long term in every category. The environment is warm and friendly and doesn't have any kind of nursing home smell. It is very pleasant to visit. One always wishes for more
of every kind of care for one's loved ones but given that one to one care is impractical, the level of care given is very good.

I like The Highgate Care Home carers they are very kind to me, and I appreciate their kindness. I enjoy attending the arts and crafts and being creative. The meals are generally pretty good.
I wish at times the carers would pay attention to my call when I ring the buzzer especially when I need the
toilet.

My mum was admitted to the care home in July 2017. It was a difficult and emotional decision for her to make at the time but I can truly say that it was the best decision made for her and the family. I have seen a great improvement in her care and overall well being. She has now settled in well and
is starting to enjoy activities such as music and art classes. It is very reassuring for the family to know that she has constant care either from one of the nurses or care assistants. Everyone has been very patient and welcoming and nothing is ever too much trouble for the care home manager. I would highly recommend this home - all the staff are very friendly and helpful. Thank you for looking after my mum so well.

Since my husband has been a resident now for over twelve months the staff have become more friendly. As he has no quality of life I feel he is left on his own a great deal. Perhaps it would be helpful if someone could help him choose his television programmes in the evening? He is missing male company
greatly.
Quite often the dining room is not open at weekends.

My family and I agreed that we should have a care home with clear links to the local neighbourhood. Research enabled us to reduce our short list to half a dozen homes which we further refined. Highgate emerged as a clear winner after a face to face visit. After a year that choice has been vindicated
certainly in value for money terms.

In the 8 months that our mother has resided at The Highgate we have been delighted with her care and attention to her needs. She is very happy and content. We would value a 6 month more formal evaluation of her changing needs. This could be helpful to us, our mother and the home. However, individual
communication between staff and us is good and regular. Bathroom and WC (public) needs upgrading.

Sabrina Martin is a dedicated and experienced registered general nurse based in London, UK. She completed her BSc in Adult Nursing from Middlesex University in September 2019. Sabrina has since worked in various healthcare settings, including acute hospital wards, community nursing, and care homes.
