I want to express my sincerest appreciation that your staff of caregivers have continued to provide excellent care for my husband. This last week I have been extremely busy and have not been able to visit him for three days. So, when I showed up on the fourth day I was extremely happy to see my husband
sitting up (not slouched over in his bed,) alert, happy and singing! His fingernails and toenails were also manicured and he was shaved and his hair cleaned. He looked very handsome in my eyes.
We all know there are up and down days for every patient but I feel compelled to point out that I have seen more up days than down days recently during my visits and the place exudes a feeling of 'Home'. That is a reflection of the way your staff interacts with patients and I am forever grateful.

I visit a friend and neighbour once a week. Her room is comfortable and clean and she is very content there. The staff are kind and recognise me when I visit and offer me coffee/tea/biscuits. I have recommended Meadbank to others and know of one long-term resident who is also happy there.

We recently had a 90th birthday party for my mother who has been in Meadbank for seven years. The staff were absolutely brilliant in helping us set up the party. They provided a room for my mother's large family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They also provided cups, plates and cutlery and
assisted on the day with every detail. Everyone from the home management to the carers couldn't have been more helpful. In the past seven years the home has had its ups and downs but I notice considerable improvements in the past year or so. The accommodation is not luxurious with small bedrooms but my mother is generally happy there and I believe that's mainly down to the staff. Thanks again team Meadbank.

Reply from Grace Langfield, Customer Service Adviser at Meadbank Care Home

Thank you for your kind words. We are so happy to hear our staff and management went above and beyond to help you celebrate your Mother's birthday, and it's wonderful to hear that the staff generally make your mother so content being with us for so many years. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to make her stay as comfortable as possible.

My husband stayed at Meadbank for 2 weeks while I was away looking after my mother in Japan. When he was admitted we saw a carer who sounded very warm and professional. I had some reservations about leaving him at the care home but as soon as I talked to her my worries disappeared. I strongly recommend
Meadbank if someone needs respite care.

Meadbank really helped to make my father’s 80th Birthday celebrations so special.
We all had such a lovely time and will treasure the memories of the day.
My father smiled and sang and joined his friends to celebrate his birthday. It really was so special.
We would especially like to thank the Deputy
Manager who went over and above to make it to make it so successful.
Thank you MeadBank.

My experience is with the Bupa section of the care home. My brother went into this home at the end of May, able to walk and use the toilet. Within two weeks he was doubly incontinent and totally unable to walk. He left at the end of October. For four months, he was left sitting in a chair all day long
with just a TV for company. There is a lounge area there, but I never saw anybody in it, ever. And other than people dropping in to give medicine or food etc, you never saw anybody. The food was absolutely awful, the rooms were soulless, and he was so lonely.
Even the private side stank of urine from unchanged pads. So often I would go in and the call button was left as far as possible from my brother's hand, often five or six feet away. It was impossible for him to call for help. But it wasn't anything special. I found him in bed several times in the afternoon because a piece of equipment was broken or, in his words, he was being got at. Awful, just awful.

The daytime staff is basically ok - the nighttime staff is very poor quality and very little English. The menu/ordering was poor - so I seldom got what I had ordered. None of the crockery matches, mostly without lids and saucers etc. GP care was marginal to non-existent, it took a month to obtain my
Covid vaccination, the GP claimed it had been issued, this was really a lie - it was in a cupboard.

I am happy with the treatment of my aunt, she is contented and well cared for. Her room is clean and tidy and her outpatient treatment at the hospital and handled well. The staff are polite and pleasant. I have never seen her at meal times, but her weight appears unchanged and she has never said she
is hungry. I have little contact with the management of the home and have never spoken to the same person twice.

Visited a friend who is ageing (80) and has dementia. I found he has lost a lot of weight since my last visit (3 months ago). He is not eating solids and lost his appetite. He wanted me to find his glasses to watch TV. The care worker found them for him and he was happy. He watched TV and was able to
use the remote control. Complained of backache and looked uncomfortable - he was helped.

The 3rd floor specifically are very attentive to the residents - from what I have seen when I visit my mother. The carers are lovely and bubbly - always ready for a chat and update me with information whenever necessary. One thing which I think requires looking at is ensuring hygiene levels are kept
to a good standard.

My uncle has been very happy since moving to Meadbank. He has been well looked after - the staff are very attentive and caring. They have also been great at communicating with me about issues. My uncle seems to thrive on the company and some of the activities, and also enjoys the food. Him being here,
safe, well-fed and looked after medically and emotionally has been a great relief for the family.

The staff are warm and supportive. During difficult times, they have worked with informal efficiency, are always approachable, from the senior leadership and across all staff. Visitors are made welcome and menus on offer are attractive with help on hand if required during meals. Meetings for residents
and relatives allow issues to be discussed.

Current Review Score: 7.8 (7.795)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.8 (7.795) out of 10 for Meadbank Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 3.9 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.9 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 3.896 for Meadbank Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (45 Excellents x 5) + (30 Goods x 4) + (15 Satisfactorys x 3) + (7 Poors x 2) + (9 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 106 Ratings = 3.896

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.899 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Meadbank Care Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 176 registered maximum number of service users is 35.2. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 35.2 = 0.199

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
