My mum has been living at Muriel Street Care Home for a month now and at first we had a few tearful phone calls home, but now she is loving it and would not want to leave. She has made friends, she loves her room and we made it her own with quite a few of her things from home, including her own TV so
if she wants to she can have quiet time in her room, or join her friends in the communal lounge.
The staff are lovely, they look after the residents well and are all very friendly, approachable and very attentive. They even sort out any medical appointments that my mum needs, taking her and being with her when we cannot.
The food looks good, they get a full-cooked breakfast in the mornings, a three-course roast dinner meal at lunch and a two-course meal in the evening, plus lots of tea/coffee/juice breaks with biscuits throughout the day and cocoa at night before bed.
She has had her hair/nails done in their on-site salon.
We are very happy that we chose Muriel Street for our mother.

The staff appeared to be very caring, interested in Mum as a person and friendly. There was always someone around. Internal communication was a little lacking on her last day as the staff on duty didn't seem to know she was due to leave. Otherwise I had no issues with her care and would use them again.
This is based on a just week's respite care and my rating reflects that.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review for Muriel Street, and for your lovely comments regarding our caring and friendly team. The team were so happy to care for your mum during her stay here and would have been delighted for her to stay longer. We apologise for the miscommunication, as the team on duty that day had thought she was staying for a second week. We hope you will consider Muriel Street again in the future should you need any further care and support for your mum.

Cannot say a bad word about the care home. My partner can be challenging but they cope very well with him. All the staff are very friendly with me also. Had a great Valentine’s Day, they gave my partner a rose to give to me which was so lovely.

My mother was a resident of Muriel Street for nearly six years before she passed away in January 2021, and during the time she spent in Muriel Street, she was always treated with the utmost respect, dignity, and affection. We as a family visited regularly and got to know the staff very well and always
found them to be very caring and helpful. The home itself was always clean and welcoming and they coped tremendously well during the pandemic keeping the residents safe and families up to date via Facebook or video calls.

I appreciate the care given to my mother by the staff, especially during the current difficult situation (COVID). I am able to see her via video calls and also on Facebook. When I was able to visit in person, the staff were always welcoming. My mother is also comfortable in the centre and treats the
staff as friends.

Well, as is probably normal, I didn't think these people would be able to satisfy me with their care of my mum but I am so happy to be proved wrong, they are wonderful.
From the centre manager, his deputy, to the receptionist, the personal care people, the housekeeping, kitchen staff, medical staff,
dining room staff, the lifestyle lead and team, they are all approachable, easy to locate, and so personable and friendly. Even the staff that have no direct responsibilities/duties are so involved and interested.
I feel so much like a team member with these professionals and they know my feelings about the care I expect to be given to my mum and that I only ever give my honest opinion.

I cannot express my gratitude enough to this incredible care home who have such high standards, not only in themselves but more so in the way which they care for the elderly residents. I highly recommend this care home.

This is an exceptional care home where my grandmother is living. The staff are all lovely people who go out of their way to look after their residents. They have been amazing during the pandemic, acting quickly to protect everyone and keeping families connected via Zoom calls and window visits. We have
really felt the support from all of the carers and managers and can completely trust them to look after my grandmother's wellbeing, they are very genuine caring people. We hugely appreciate the personal touches, such as building a photo montage on my grandmother's bedroom wall while we couldn't visit in person. I couldn't thank them enough or recommend them more!

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.061)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.061) out of 10 for Muriel Street is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.805 for Muriel Street is calculated as follows: ( (66 Excellents x 5) + (16 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 82 Ratings = 4.805

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.256 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Muriel Street is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 63 registered maximum number of service users is 12.6. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 12.6 = 0.556

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I was delighted to join Muriel Street as Care UK has a good reputation across the UK, providing me with opportunities to expand my career.

As Home Manager you need to be able to show good leadership, communication skills and motivation. Working within a care home also requires adaptability and flexibility to adjust to changing needs and requirements.

My favourite part of each day is being able to interact with residents and relatives, and getting to know each individual. Being able to get to know everyone allows us to focus on residents' needs and provide personalised care.

I look forward to continuing to deliver the best care possible and supporting my colleagues, to provide a fulfilling lifestyle for residents in the home.
