Following a minor fall and a two-month stay in the hospital, because
it would have been impossible for my 97-year-old mother to receive
the level of care needed in her home.
During her hospitalisation, she became chair bound, and there was of
course confusion inherent in the elderly.
My mother
was admitted to Abbey Care in Newbury Park in
March 2019, she had no appetite and weighed some six stone. I was convinced that she would be gone within a couple of months.
The care and attention my mother has received at Abbey Care Complex
has been amazing. The staff are dedicated, meticulous records are kept,
medication is administered, and any changes are dealt with immediately.
Regular doctor visits are organised. The staff are employed on a permanent basis which, for me, is a major factor - they become used to the patients and are able to note subtle changes in behaviour and requirements.
I do not live in the U.K, and it is essential that I have peace of mind. The staff, whether it's the head of the home, nurses or carers, everyone has always been available either by phone or email.
My mother had her 98th birthday in December, and although it was a hard decision putting my mum into care, I doubt she’d have still been with us if it hadn’t been for the care and attention given at Abbey Care Complex.
A few more flower pots and a prettier garden area would be nice for when the weather improves.
My mother is chair bound so the garden is the only place we can take her to.

Unfortunately, we had to take our Mum away from a different home for negligence. The Abbey Care Home could have been more different. Initially, the Manager listened to our concerns and responded positively. The staff could not possibly have been more caring; they treated Mum with dignity and respect
and were responsive to her needs and welfare. I could not have asked for more, particularly during her final days. I cannot express how grateful we all are to the staff and Manager.

My wife and sister in Law, who were related to the resident, and the two son-in Laws cannot praise Abbey Care complex enough. He was only there for five weeks prior to his death, was looked after extremely well. Nothing was too much for the staff. He could not have had better care.

My husband is well looked after, only issues I have is with the food, not always up to standard. All food is of the cheapest sources. Too much bought in foods and battered, not enough fresh fruit and salad.

Each time I have visited my wife I have been greeted with a smile and a warm welcome, plus a concern for my welfare as a 'carer'. If there has been a problem (rare) there has always been a 'sense of urgency' by the care staff and the management, and the problem has been sensibly sorted out. I feel that
I have peace of mind knowing that my wife is well cared for - thank you.

Caring staff welcomed me when I came in the very first day, they gave me a warm welcome, communicated effectively to make me comfortable and tried their best to provide and meet with all my needs and requirements. This care home is very caring of their residents, which means if I can't visit one day I know my husband will get all the help he needs. He has to be assisted with his meals now and rarely manages on his own. The home and residents are clean and showered regularly. Food and activities are good.

My experience with this care home is an extremely positive one. After being neglected in a previous home, Abbey Care Complex helped my grandmothers bed sore go from grade 4 to zero. If my grandmother did not want to eat something, they went out of their way to make other things for her to try and eat.
The staff were friendly, caring and helpful. A big thank you.

My husband moved here in December 2017 after the closure of his previous nursing home, which was such a good home that I was devastated. However, I needn't have worried because Abbey Care Complex is fantastic and actually much better in many respects. The staff are outstanding in every way - warm,
caring, very well trained and on-the-ball with every resident's needs and alert to any changes in wellbeing or behaviour. The food is delicious, varied, and there's lots of it. The building is well-designed, homely, scrupulously clean and well-maintained. There's a good atmosphere, and activities 7 days a week. His room was redecorated a few days after he moved in, to my choice of colour, so it looked familiar and very much like his room in the previous home, which I think helped him to settle in. My only negative comment is that the garden area is quite limited, but there is enough of it to sit outside or go for a (rather short) walk.

The carers, sisters, receptionist, laundry lady and all staff were very courteous and care for their people, also for the visitors going to see their mother's/father's/husband's/wive's etc. I would recommend this home to anyone who wants their loved ones tended to.

My father has been in Abbey Care complex since February 2016 and my mother in the same care home since November 2016.


My father is now 94 and mum is 86. Both parents are very fragile health-wise and the emotional experience and turmoil of placing both patents in this care home, was quite frankly,

made far easier by the kind, caring support of all the staff at Abbeycare.


The management, nurses and all healthcare workers and support staff are totally dedicated to their jobs and to the caring of all residents.


Myself and my family have only praise and thanks to all of them, as we doubt our parents would be here today if it was not due to the work of these kind people.


The only complaint, which will commonplace for all care homes I suspect, is the fact they could do with more staff on call, however, we are mindful of the extra cost this would place upon the home's owners and in turn, the costs passed onto to residents and their families.

We chose this home on recommendation and when we viewed it we were impressed with the friendliness of the staff and the care they gave to residents. We have not been disappointed. The staff really do care about the welfare of the residents. They get my mum out of bed every day and take her to the day
room with other residents. My mum is happy with the food she is given and seems generally content. If there is any room for improvement it would be better staff communication on shift change.

My mum spent 7 and a half months in hospital, she didn't feed herself, was never dressed, wasn't kept clean. My family and I were constantly asking for her to be changed. Mum hardly spoke, never smiled, just stared in front of her.
Within a week of mum moving to Abbey Care, she was sitting upright
in her armchair in the day room, she was able to feed herself.
Mum is now washed and dressed everyday, never smells. She chats all the time, laughs, smiles, takes interest in the television, feeds herself, drinks from an open-top cup.
She has put on weight and seems genuinely happy. Her dementia is so severe, but I really believe she'd given up hope while in hospital. The care, love and support she receives from the staff at Abbey Care has given her a whole new lease of life. She has her dignity back. Thank you.

Mother was a resident from June 2015 until passing on 16/10/2015. She was so very well looked after by all the staff at Abbey Care. I (only daughter)live a 2 hour journey away but visited every week. I took great comfort in mum being loved and cared for. She was very happy there until the end. Nothing
was too much trouble and we had no complaints only compliments. Mum was treated with dignity and love.
