Some permanent staff are very caring and approachable but at times some staff appear indifferent. Agency staff used at times and this can affect the quality of care which is a shame as residents quite vulnerable. My Mum has been resident since July 2017 and I do feel I have a good relationship with
some staff. As a family, we do feel supported by some carers and nurses.
The quality of the food is good.
It is nice to be able to use the kitchen to make tea and there is a sense of support from other carers who have a family member in the unit.
Carpet in Hanover does smell and needs to be replaced with a laminate floor. This smell is off-putting for visitors. I am unsure why some basic toiletries like soap are not provided for residents.

Thank you for taking the time to submit your review for Elizabeth Lodge. In regards to the staffing levels in the home, we always make sure that we have enough team members to run the home safely and effectively, both throughout the day as well as night, seven days a week. Sometimes, particularly to cover team holidays and illness, this does include the use of agency staff. Although these individuals are always fully trained and experienced, we do realise that this is no substitute for people working permanently in the home who are able to build long lasting relationships with residents. However, I am very happy to let you know that recruitment of permanent team members is one of our big focuses at Elizabeth Lodge – as such we have already seen a reduction in use of agency staff as a result, and we hope to welcome more new team members very soon. In regards to the floors, we do have a dedicated housekeeping team and cleanliness is monitored daily across all suites. We are now also undertaking regular shampooing of corridor carpets and will be monitoring this closely going forwards. Toiletries are not provided but of course we can support residents in purchasing of these if needed. Thank you again for your feedback, and of course please do let the home manager or any of the senior team know at any time now or in the future if you have any concerns, suggestions or questions, and we’ll be happy to help.

Our aunt has been very well looked after at Elizabeth Lodge by all of the staff. They are always very friendly and welcoming!
I have witnessed the staff reacting to a resident falling over. They were passionate in their response and dealt with the situation very well.

When my mother entered this home we were told that the unit she would be living on was for frail people with reasonable mental capacity. During the last year, this policy seems to have changed. The unit is now full of non-communicative dementia patients or residents who spend most of the time screaming.
This makes it very uncomfortable for the residents with mental capacity.
Although most of the regular care staff are very good, many agency staff are used who are not introduced to the residents causing confusion as they are often dressed more like nurses than carers. Some are not conversant in the use of the equipment, eg. when my mother wanted to get out of bed during the night to go to the toilet the two agency carers present did not know how to adjust her bed so that she could get out.
The activities team are very good and do their best to provide entertainment for those residents able to take part.

I’m very sorry to hear some of the problems your mother has experienced - I understand you have already spoken with a member of the senior management team regarding your concerns and please rest assured that we take these very seriously. It seems we have fallen short in the high quality of care we usually offer at the home and I do apologise. We always try to limit the use of agency staff but sometimes this is unavoidable, for example, to cover team holidays or illness, and all agency staff do receive a full induction from either the suite manager or deputy manager – we have fed back to these team members and will make sure that the issues you’ve raised with bed adjustment are covered within this at all times in future to make sure this does not happen again. The agency staff do wear different uniforms so they are distinguishable from the permanent team members in the home, and should any resident or family member accidentally mistake them for nursing staff rather than a carer when they need a nurse, of course, they would let them know and locate a nurse for them. In regards to the suite where you mother is placed, this does have some residents with mixed needs currently and the team at the home work hard to make sure that every resident has an environment and activity plan that’s suited to their needs.

We visit on a regular basis and find the care and support our Aunt is given is very good. There is always opportunities for her to join in various activities and go on outings because of her health issues, this wouldn't be possible without the carers support.

The home is very bright and airy and nicely decorated. It always smells nice and fresh when we visit. The staff are always clean, tidy and friendly, from the first point of contact (reception) right through to activity, carers, cooks, cleaners etc.
The manageress who has just left made a lot of difference
when she was here and improved the home even more.

My mother was in Elizabeth Lodge for four years. During the time she was in Tudor Unit, I was confident that she was receiving excellent care.
The staff that were looking after her were compassionate and totally dedicated to her care.
I was amazed how wonderful they were to her and my family during
her last few days.

I’m a nurse by training. I obtained a nursing degree in the Philippines and qualified as a nurse in the UK. I worked in the NHS here before making the move into the care home sector. I was keen to gain experience in a different setting, where I could make a difference to older people and get to know the people I care for. I’ve been working for Care UK since 2004.


Like any home manager worth their salt, I take pride in ensuring that we’re delivering superb care to every resident of Elizabeth Lodge. I’m focused on improving all aspects of what we do here. What makes it easier is that I have such a dedicated and supportive team. I love motivating and inspiring them to fulfil their potential while achieving excellent outcomes for our residents.


Although I’ve been a home manager for some time, I still get a buzz out of the simple things – like walking around the home, greeting residents and their families, and seeing everyone enjoying time together.
