Mum loves it in this home. Mum has been here a few months and she absolutely loves the companionship. Great staff who manage Mum's care needs and give all the residents activities that keep them happy.

Mum has been with Heavers Court for almost 4 years. The staff are caring, friendly, and professional. The staff are very hard-working and capable but I wonder if there should be more of them to make sure they meet the needs of all the residents. Mum is always clean, well fed, and happy when I visit,
and I know without doubt that she is cared for very well 24/7.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review for Heavers Court. It is always so wonderful to get positive feedback, and this helps us to improve the service we deliver. The care team work extremely hard and do their level best to ensure residents living at Heavers Court receive good care and support. Currently the team ratio in a day is where it should be to ensure residents are receiving the quality of care that should be expected, and we also have team leaders and our activity team on hand to provide additional support to residents throughout the day.

I am very sad that in my wife's third year of residence at Heavers Court my family and I have had to remove her to another home. This, despite my appreciation of the hard work and dedication of many of the carers in the home. Also, that she was happy with the care she received - especially the food!
Indeed, she came to say that 'This is my home now'. However, after what was evidently a fall that broke her hip but which was not diagnosed until 17 days later, her continuing excruciating pain necessitated her removal to Croydon hospital where she was operated on. The details of how this was allowed to occur will have to be explored to ensure it is not repeated for any other resident. So too will the grade 3 pressure sore hospital staff were shocked to discover she had developed. This too is unacceptable! (My ratings don't adequately reflect this experience).

We are pleased to hear that your wife enjoyed her time at Heavers Court and was appreciative of the care she received. We are very sorry that you felt it necessary to change her placement but as we are sure you understand we are unable to comment on individual care matters in an open forum. If you would like the opportunity to discuss the reasons behind this decision, please contact the home manager who would be very happy to explore any concerns that you have. We are proud of the service we provide and if we have fallen short in any area, we are equally keen to learn from this and improve where we are able.

Mum has been here at Heavers for the last five years. She has been very happy and the staff treat each resident as an individual. The facilities are bright and modern. Having access to their lovely gardens was always a bonus on visits. Mum has just passed away at Heavers. I cannot praise the care, dignity
and compassion that everyone showed her during her last days. We will always be very grateful to the care manager, and her team for everything they have done for our mum during her time at Heavers.

The care and attention given to my husband were heartwarming. His care package was adjusted very quickly when his condition changed for the worst. The assigned GP was marvellous too. The quality and frequency of entertainment for the residents is extremely impressive. A huge thank you for making my
husband's stray so homely.

My husband has been in this care home for a year and I can’t speak highly enough of it. The staff are so caring and professional and have been so supportive to me too as I found the transition very difficult. My husband laughs a lot and they have even got him dancing, which in 39 years of marriage I
have failed to do! I am so thankful to all the staff for giving us so many happy memories in what has been a very difficult time for us all.

My dad has received excellent care at Heavers Court. The staff are caring and professional and the manager is approachable and quick to try and resolve any issues brought to her attention. The activities leaders always try and engage the residents in a good range of activities. The home has supported
my mum at a difficult time and has made the whole family feel very welcome. I am very impressed with the service and would definitely recommend.

My friend has been in Heavers Court for a number of years, first in residential and then in the nursing unity. The care is excellent and my friend has to be fed and cannot move. There have been no bed sores and all the carers treat her with love and respect. They should all be valued and paid a decent
wage.

I have found this home:
1) Well staffed.
2) The staff are warm, friendly, caring and make us feel welcomed.
3) I have seen a great improvement in my father.
4) The place is clean and well run.
5) My only concern has been where formalities might have been better carried out away from my father.
6)
I am more than happy with the day to day care and interaction with my dad.

Thank you so much for your review and kind comments, we’re incredibly happy to hear all your positive feedback, especially around care and the improvements you’ve seen in your father since coming to Heavers Court. In regards to your point around formalities, we do always try and include residents as fully as possible in conversations and decisions about their care – however, I understand that when your father first joined us that he did find this quite difficult and it may have been more appropriate to have conducted this conversation separately with you instead. We of course will bear this in mind in future. Thank you again for taking the time to provide your review, and please do let us know at any time if you have any further comments or suggestions.

My mum has been at Heavers Court for 2 and a half years. The staff have been exceptional for the whole of this period.

Their care of my mum is beyond excellent. My mum is more settled, calm and happy than she has been for the last 10 years. I cannot rate Heavers Court highly enough.

I visit my friend in the Holly unit every Thursday. I am always very impressed with the way the staff, without exception, treat the residents, with patience and respect. They help those who need help to come to the table at lunch time and I'm sure at all other times also.
They help feed those who
are unable to feed themselves.
The Holly unit is clean and cheerful. They have various entertainment for the residents. I was present on one of these occasions and it was nice to see the residents included by asking them questions and asking their views. The food is good and plentiful.

My Grandma was in the care of Heavers Court for 9 weeks, the experience was not good whilst in that home. The communication between staff and family relatives was again not good. Heavers Court did provide nutritious 3-course meals which were excellent.

Reply from Samantha Debenham, Marketing Support Administrator at Heavers Court

We were very grateful to receive your comments and sorry that Heavers was unable to provide the level of care that your relative required. We understand that Heavers Court discussed this very early on with the placement provider requesting that a specialist placement or additional resources was required. We can also confirm that following discussions with yourselves additional training has been provided to staff.

Current Review Score: 8.8 (8.784)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.784) out of 10 for Heavers Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.9 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.867 for Heavers Court is calculated as follows: ( (52 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 60 Ratings = 4.867

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.917 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Heavers Court is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 12 = 0.417

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Jacqueline Johnson

Job Title: Home Manager

I was keen to join Care UK as it provided me with a fantastic opportunity to continue developing after previous roles as a Deputy Manager in a home.

My favourite part of the day is when I get to have my daily team meeting before doing my walk around our lovely home. It is so rewarding meeting lovely residents, who always give a welcoming smile.

Every day I am reminded of the difference the team can make in residents' lives. Their actions help everyone in the home have meaningful, fulfilling experiences.

On my walkabouts, I love hearing residents' opinions on how we are doing, so we can continue to learn from their experiences and improve our services.
