Although it appears that dad has deteriorated generally in regard to his condition, he has put on weight since his arrival. This, in turn, has meant he is healthier in general and has not needed hospital care as a result. I can only attribute this to the care of the home which, although less glamorous,
is much better for him than the last one.... Thanks for all your assistance!

My husband has vascular dementia and Alzheimer's. He was told about 18 months ago and since then he has had 'funny turns' which he lands up in hospital, with the last two he had been in 24 hours and completely altered my husband from the day before he went from hospital to Hillside Nursing Home. It
has been a nightmare for me and the family but the care and attention he gets is outstanding. I feel like the home is an extended family and feel at peace he is so looked after.

Inequitable distribution of staff resource on the two floors of the home. Inadequate nurse and carer staff resource/allowances made for those needier, bedridden residents on the first floor that need more personal care. There should be a resident’s room converted to a nursing office/facility on the
top floor. It has been noted that nursing staff are expected to be on call to residents, and at the same time still handle confidential telephone discussions with residents’ family members or the doctor about the residents’ health matters. These calls have taken place whilst visitors are in attendance and with screaming dementia residents demanding attention from nursing staff in the background. It would be helpful if family members had a private room/facility at the home that is not used by staff for breaks, staff training and photocopying. Personal daily healthcare records should be computerised so that better use can be made of existing staff time instead of carer staff having to complete copious, repetitive manual records.

Even without a manager for a while, I feel all the staff have continued to provide care of the highest standard.
I feel my mum is treated as an individual and her specific care needs are addressed with kindness and understanding.

Mums care is excellent here, and the nurses and carers show compassion and dignity towards mum at all times. They are always cheerful around her and try to involve her in the daily activities.


Unfortunately, the lack of management is a big cause for concern. There appears to be no real guidance or

direction for the staff, and small arguments between them have been witnessed. Promises of new equipment and decor, etc, made by the previous manager have not been delivered, eg: lack of seating for visiting relatives, threadbare carpets in some rooms, updated food serving trolley. No one experienced enough to deal with queries regarding NHS or funding problems, social services, etc.

An ongoing decoration programme is in place at the home and delivery of new furnishings and equipment has been organised. My mother has been here for two years.
I am happy with the way she is looked after, always clean and well fed.
I think they should always be offered plenty to drink even if it means more changes.
I think you really need a gardener one or two days a week. The front garden is the first impression.
Weeds do not look good.

A fantastic care home, whose staff look after my mother impeccably. The new manageress is caring and approachable, and while she is extremely busy, she will always make time to speak with me if I have any questions or concerns. Currently, she is providing me with the necessary support to tackle NHS
funding issues, and the information she has been able to give myself and my sister has been invaluable.
Communication between the home and myself has been better than previously, especially with the introduction of Residents Meetings.


Overall, a brilliant care home, which seems to be improving as time goes on. Caring and professional nurses and carers, and an approachable and proactive manageress.

I was very impressed by all the staff they have a very caring attitude and cannot do enough for their residents or for visitors. The home is kept clean and tidy at all times. Any minor problems are quickly sorted out by the management and their staff. The only negative is that although the meals are
plentiful there could be a touch more variety in what is prepared.

The staff have been excellent with me and my mother, she settled in great and I feel she is very looked after and cared for. My mum doesn't interact well with the other residents but the staff recognise this and will sit/walk with her. Her room is kept clean and tidy and has been recently painted. I
have not had to complain about anything but feel confident things would be dealt with brilliantly.
