Jesmund Nursing Home is located in the heart of Cheam offering accommodation and nursing care for 25 elderly residents. Their mission is to provide a service that is caring, effective, responsive and safe.

Jesmund is a light, spacious property which is very much part of the local community. The home is purpose-built and retains the comforting atmosphere of a family home, whilst being dementia-friendly. It includes a spacious lounge, dining room and a spacious garden for outdoor activities, particularly for more mobile residents. Each resident has a personalised private room to relax in. They have regular activities and organised day trips to keep residents mentally and physically stimulated and motivated. A lift and stairlift are available to facilitate transfers between the ground and first floor for individuals who are less mobile. They have both a bath and shower to allow individuals the choice of where they prefer. The home is well signposted for easier navigation of service users with dementia.

Staff are experienced in caring for individuals with all forms of dementia and supporting them through its multitude of manifestations such as memory loss, falls, communication difficulties, behavioural changes or other symptoms. Staff are highly skilled to anticipate the dynamically evolving needs of individuals in their care, whilst promoting and encouraging independence where safe and appropriate to do so. They have an experienced, in-house chef who prepares meals daily. The chef is trained to prepare meals in line with all dietary requirements, including those advised by Speech and Language therapists and dieticians, as well as cultural and health needs.

They adopt a multidisciplinary approach to the care of individuals residing in the home, with regular visits from the local GP (doctor), pharmacist, dentist, optician, chiropodists and others.

My mother came here 3 and a half years ago.
When she came she was violent, significantly underweight, stressed and sick.
She is now a happy lady and well cared for.

My wife came directly from hospital to Jesmond. Obviously, it was a difficult time but she was treated in a very caring way. The staff are wonderful and she settled in well.

The nursing home feels home from home for both relatives and residents. The staff really are wonderful and look after their charges like family. The home offers a friendly and really caring environment. They also offer activities for the residents to try and improve interest and joining in. Would recommend
this home to anyone looking for a family-friendly and good care/nursing home.

Thank you to all the staff here who supported us for 3 years with our mum and helped us see Mum through to the end.
A big shout out for the amazing staff who even sang to Mum last night and were with us all the way and all the healthcare staff.

Jesmund completed their excellent level of care for my Grandfather today, when three of their staff attended his funeral. Given the number of people who must pass through the home it is a great comfort to know staff care enough to come to see him off. Their care has always been excellent treating him
with great dignity and care, making his last and difficult few years as comfortable as possible. He was always treated like a human being and not just another body passing through.

The home feels like a home more than others I've been to. It is kept very very clean. Staff always provided tea coffee and nibbles when I visited and my Granddad was also able to enjoy a beer or a whisky now and again, making his experience of living there as good as possible. Staff also were open to suggestions and help, introducing occasional light background music when my mum brought a CD in. They kept in touch with my Mum regularly and were always polite and helpful. We can't be happier that he was able to spend his last days there.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.499)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.499) out of 10 for Jesmund Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.699 for Jesmund Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (67 Excellents x 5) + (24 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 93 Ratings = 4.699

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Jesmund Nursing Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 25 registered maximum number of service users is 5, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
