Celebrating over sixty-six years of caring, Westside Care Home is part a family-run business with two Gold-Standard care homes in leafy Surrey.

Westside Care Home, the sister property in Purley, specialises in nursing and personal care to ensure your loved ones are extremely well cared for. It offers a peaceful atmosphere, accommodating up to twenty-four residents. Westside is ‘Good’ rated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), and accredited with Platinum status under the Gold Standards Framework. Westside was also voted as a Top 20 Care Home in London for 2020 by carehome.co.uk.

Founded in 1968, Westside is a former doctor’s home that has been extended and refurbished to provide facilities for residents requiring care, with en-suite bedrooms, a main lounge, a quiet reading room, a dining room and beautiful gardens. Westside is decorated in a warm, contemporary style, and has good transport links with Purley town nearby.

The CQC registered manager, along with the clinical lead, manage this care home day-to-day with the support of the owners. There is a full catering team to prepare delicious meals for residents, and in house activities and entertainment coordinators planning regular events.

The staff at Westside Care Home, made our mum/nan feel so welcome. Their personalised approach and attention to detail, helped us feel confident we had picked the right place. Everyone is very caring and keeps us well informed and included in our mum's/nan's ongoing care. Westside is very homely with
a lovely clean environment, great food and a good range of activities. Everyone at Westside works hard to know their residents and families and cares for them well.

Faced with the difficult decision to move our dearly loved mother to a care home to provide the special care and assistance she now needs has been extremely emotional and stressful. We knew this would be challenging as being with the family is all my mum has ever known. The pandemic meant we weren’t
able to view any care homes, but after reading so many great reviews, we opted for Westside and are so glad that we did, as we couldn’t agree more. When my mum moved in, all our fears and reservations were immediately allayed. We were so relieved and happy to be greeted by such caring, friendly staff and carers, who made us feel so welcome. My mum took a while to settle into her new home, as expected, but the warmth, dedication and kindness shown to our mum and family has been excellent. This helped and reassured both me and my sister to get through those very difficult early days. Thanks to an amazing team and to each one of you for the fantastic job you all do.

My aunt has been a resident at Westside for just over a year, the majority of which has been in lockdown. Lockdown restrictions have obviously raised a number of issues with regards to keeping in contact, but thanks to the ingenuity of the staff and the wonders of video conferencing technology, the
virtual visits I have with my aunt, have been better than meeting physically. They also save me an 150-mile round trip. Because of the deafness of us both, face to face meetings even prior to lockdown, were not easy. Masked up and either side of an enormous perspex screen, meant that visits during lockdown, were even harder work. Now, with the help of the staff, we speak together every week via video conferencing, using a tablet and conventional earpieces with a built-in microphone. Now we can see each other unmasked and hear each other loud and clear. This new normal has revolutionised our times together and raised the spirits of us both. Thank you Westside.

After viewing 9 local Nursing Homes for my dear auntie, I couldn't believe my luck when I came across Westside Nursing Home. Instantly I felt warmth and kindness and a very homely feel. My auntie was a resident for 2 and 1/2 years, and the care she got was above and beyond. She was lucky to have a family
who visited her often, and the staff always made us feel so welcome, we too, became part of Westside. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and I could not thank them enough for treating my amazing auntie with such dignity, love and care. People forget how hard it can be for the staff at all levels when residents are unwell, and with my auntie having Dementia, there would be good days and sad days. Even the chefs would go above and beyond, even the housekeepers would always pop their heads in to say Hi. I honestly cannot express my love and thanks to all the staff at Westside. Sadly, my auntie passed away in July, and I was fortunate to be there till the end. The staff on duty that day were amazing. Thank you.

We were so lucky to come across Westside Nursing Home for my mum’s end of life care. The Manager from the off was so helpful and efficient in arranging all the necessary steps. From the moment mum arrived, the staff could not do enough for her and us as a family. They went above and beyond with their
care and dedication to looking after my mum but also making sure that we were also well looked after. I can honestly say the nursing staff are truly some of the most caring, dedicated and compassionate human beings I have had the pleasure to deal with. Every step of the way we were made to feel at home, spoilt with tea, comforted and always kept up to date with what was happening. Over the twelve weeks or so we spent there with mum, we became very fond of the nursing staff and management. I would like to send my utmost gratitude to all you ladies (you know who you are) who were with my sister and me through the toughest of times. We will remember you with fondness always.

We were very fortunate to be able to move Mum to Westside for her end of life care following a lengthy stay on a hospital medical ward. Westside wasn't the glossiest home we visited, but it offered everything we wanted for Mum in her final days. We promised Mum she would have own comfortable room and
privacy - Westside delivered this alongside the best care we could ever have hoped for. The staff were professional and caring for Mum and also for me and my brother and sisters. They were respectful, attentive and kind and provided Mum a secure and dignified end to her life. My family was supported and cared for too and we were able to be with Mum 24/7 as she slowly faded. We are very grateful that we moved Mum to Westside - we are confident that we did the best for our much loved Mum in her final days and cannot thank the manager and her team enough for their dedication and superb provision of care.

The home has been the most caring, compassionate and attentive home we could have hoped for our mother. She has been a resident for over 3 years and received outstanding care and genuine love from the wonderful staff. Throughout that time, I cannot sing their praises too highly. What a wonderful place

Amazing care home, with workers giving their best effort to make sure all the residents are satisfied and are always there to help if needed. A very organised care home with a structured layout for the day which helps the residents understand what they have planned for the rest of the day ahead of them.

My mother has been at Westside for 15 years. The care, kindness and respect she has had in this time has been outstanding. The staff are wonderful, always personable and treat all residents as individuals with the utmost dignity. Many of the staff have been at Westside for many many years which is
testament to them for the lovely homely atmosphere that is created on a daily basis.
The thought that goes into all the aspects of daily life is very much in consideration of the residents. The choices of food, the daily activities, the time taken by the staff to communicate with all residents, giving their time to make them feel like an individual. They also make all visitors so welcome at any time that it's a lovely environment to visit. Lovely Christmas and summer parties enjoyed by all, staff even coming in on their days off to be at the party just so the residents always see a friendly face. A really lovely group.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Westside.

The care provided and the attention to detail in Westside is outstanding. As a small nursing home, the staff know all the residents and understand their needs and wants. They care for all the residents with the utmost respect and they treat them as valued individuals, not just a task to complete.
The
daily routine is carefully tailored for each resident, and they can choose if they want to participate in the many daily activities or classes. Mum's favourites are the daily crossword, the weekly art classes and going into the lovely garden whenever it's possible. The Christmas party and summer tea party are popular too.
Many of the staff have been working there for many years. They not only know the people they are looking after but also get to know us the families very well.
Westside is a very happy place with lots of fun and all of the staff, in whatever role, are friendly, committed, and really want to do there very best for mum. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Westside Care Home is a very personal and caring home. The staff were extremely attentive to my mother's needs. The rooms were all very welcoming and very comfortable and there is a beautiful garden to walk in and sit in. The nurses working there gave my mother excellent medical care and were always
available to talk to about any concerns. There is an excellent cook and my mother enjoyed lovely meals. Visitors are always made to feel welcome whether it was in the shared residents' sitting room or in the resident's own room. It is a small nursing home so each resident had a great deal of attention and the atmosphere was very homely indeed and the staff always greeted us with a warm smile and we were always offered a cup of tea or coffee. All the staff knew my mother's name and my family's names. Group activities are organised and there is a lovely sunny dining room. We also had a gathering after my mother's funeral at Westside which was organised beautifully by the staff.

I looked at quite a few nursing homes for my dad before coming to Westside. It’s a heartbreaking decision having to look at residential care for an elderly relative. The moment we entered Westside we knew it was the place for dad. The manager was so welcoming and made us feel at home. It is small in
comparison to many others and this was what we liked. It has a family feel about it and is clean with no “smell” which is very apparent in many others.
Dad was made to feel at home immediately and every member of staff was friendly and took the utmost care of dad. I can’t fault anything that they did. He was so happy and loved being there. The food is lovely and plentiful.
Dad spent the last 8 months of his life there and I couldn’t have asked for anything more from them. Dad recently passed away and the love and support I was shown will stay with me forever. As a final tribute to dad, they held his funeral tea at the home and it was the perfect ending for him.

My grandfather Jack spent his last 3 months at Westside Nursing home. Initially when we transferred him there from hospital we felt saddened as he was no longer able to live his what had been fairly independent life due to his age and terminal illness. Nonetheless, he settled in almost immediately
and I felt that this was down to the kindness and compassion of all the staff working there. Although he was very frail the nurses and support workers did their utmost to ensure he maintained his dignity and respect at all times and whenever we went to see Granddad he was always very happy, clean and comfortable. We were able to make his bedroom very homely with all his home comforts and (many, many) picture frames and we were able to take him out into the very large and very pretty garden (well maintained and with lots of beautiful bedded and pot plants). The rooms were clean and Granddad always enjoyed his meals there (a previously fussy eater). The kitchen staff were very friendly and they always worked hard and took pride in the food they prepared. We think he thought it was a hotel!
There was a sense of homeliness as soon as you walk through the door. It does not feel clinical at all. I believe that they are also due to decorate soon so this will make it even better. Had Granddad been more mobile, I'm sure he would have partaken in the activities that the events team put on for the residents or even enjoyed chatting to the residents who congregate in the living room.
We cannot thank all the staff enough for the kind care they provided to my Granddad. They were so friendly to all of us and made us feel welcome to come or call at any time of the day. I felt that they made a special effort to make us feel involved in Granddad's care (they appreciate that relatives can feel a sense of helplessness when their loved one is unwell).
The Matron, Mary was exceptional! She was always visible and accessible and you can tell that the staff thought a lot of her and they all seemed happy to be there! The nurses were also so compassionate, caring and professional. Needless to say, there is always a sense of guilt when leaving a loved one in a home but we always felt comforted that we knew he was being well looked after. Unfortunately, we did not make it in time to be with Granddad during his last moments but he was not alone, two support workers who Granddad knew well sat with him and held his hands and comforted him - for this we will be eternally grateful.
On behalf of my Granddad we were all very pleased with his care at Westside and couldn't recommend it highly enough.

Stella joined Westside in October 2023 with almost 17 years of care home management experience. Stella is also a Registered Nurse and brings her experience and leadership to the team and actively leads the staff team to achieve good standards within the home. With an open door policy Stella is always approachable and supports her team, residents and relatives at any time. Stella ensures that good standards are maintained within the home and works with her team to achieve these.

Annette is our Deputy Manager at Westside Care Home. She began her career at Westside as a Registered Nurse in 2009 and was promoted to Deputy Manager in 2015. Annette is a great team leader with high standards who encourages her staff to always do their best in their work and lead by example.
Annette also has a real passion for gardening and enjoys keeping our gardens looking lovely and well looked after. She always involves the residents and they enjoy sitting out enjoying the garden in the warmer weather watching the wildlife.

Job Title: Head Chef

Joined: 2005

Raj started working at Westside in 2005 as a Kitchen Assistant and then worked his way up and became Cook at our sister home Hill House before coming to Westside after being promoted to Chef. He is very friendly and goes to speak to the residents and spends time chatting with them and finds out what they would like to eat. He is experienced in the different dietary requirements that our residents need and can prepare textured diets as needed. He also prepares special meals for our residents to cater for their particular choices. He also bakes well so we have lots of tasty cakes every day which he decorates and he enjoys catering for the special events that we have throughout the year . He is always happy to cater for our annual BBQ and Strawberry tea events.

Christina has been Home Administrator here at Westside since December 2021. Christina supports the home by maintaining our compliance requirements, organising and overseeing staff training, staff recruitment and also supports the management team. Christina is a point of contact with all the residents and staff.
