My wife has recently transferred from Widecombe Nursing Home to a more local facility near where we live. The only reason for the transfer is due to being nearer and my mother-in-law is being transferred to the same home. This is more convenient to the family unit as myself, sister-in-law and son live
much closer to the new home.
I was very happy with the care my wife received at Widecombe, and the staff there were very good at all aspects of the care and to myself. As I said, I would have been happy for my wife to stay there except for the distance etc, and this is good for the family unit. My wife is nil by mouth, so food is not applicable.

My mother came here after she was admitted to hospital with a broken hip. She took a while to settle in as she just wanted to be at home, but after a few months she did. She is in a room with a lovely few of the garden and when she's not asleep she is happy. We all noticed that she has looked the best
she has in a long time due to the care she is getting here, which is all we want for her.

I would like to thank everyone in Widecombe nursing home for looking after our mum. She was there for a short while but the care and respect she got from management, the nurses to carers was excellent. They made us family feel so welcome. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.

This is a truly wonderful home. Has the feel and smell of home, Not a care home. A small single-storey building, with nice gardens, in a quiet area. The staff are happy and caring, happy to talk and discuss your relative's needs and care. Actively asking, for information on their likes/dislikes to ensure
they have the best experience. It is a warm, clean, safe place, for my brother. Unfortunately, my brother has to be moved due to his personal needs, which I am truly sad about. Thank you to every member of staff.

I am writing this on behalf of my mother and myself, period of stay approx 6 weeks.
Management very helpful and efficient with queries. Food and drink very good, room was clean and tidy.
My father was transferred from the main area hospital requiring palliative care which included a rapid decline
in physical strength. From the very first visit, we were made to feel very welcomed and we could see the staff caring for my father as his condition advanced. They adjusted their care and attention as required.
I will be eternally grateful to the staff for the compassion shown and care given to my mother during his stay.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (8.970)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (8.970) out of 10 for Widecombe Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.581 for Widecombe Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (44 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 62 Ratings = 4.581

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.389 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Widecombe Nursing Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 38 registered maximum number of service users is 7.6. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 7.6 = 0.789

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
