The Devonshire provides 24-hour nursing care, in addition to supporting those living with dementia and other long-term conditions.

Conveniently located to nearby Tilehurst village, the home benefits from excellent local transport links and is easily accessible by train, bus and car.

The Devonshire is divided into smaller accommodation units, offering an intimate friendly atmosphere where residents and carers get to know each other well and staff can tailor care to the individual and differing needs of residents.

All 137 rooms are en-suite and are decorated with modern fixtures and fittings.

The activity team provide a daily programme of activities and events that appeal to the hobbies and interests of residents including baking and arts and carts.

The home hosts regular events inviting local community groups to the home and welcome entertainers for the enjoyment on all residents home on a regular basis. External trips out are also organised for residents, their families and friends.

My husband looks physically well and cared for and, despite his increasing mental health issues, shows no sign of distress. The staff on Kingfisher Unit have consistently been welcoming and receptive to any concerns or queries I have had. The food always looks apetising and seems varied. I have had
no complaints about how my husband has been cared for.

I regularly visit my father at different times of the day, the staff are outstanding, they are caring, compassionate and respectful. My father was given a few weeks to live however it's one and half years since the prognosis due to the fantastic care which he is receiving. The staff and the leadership
of the home says it all - excellent. Congratulations on receiving overall Good to your recent CQC rating.

Generally I have been satisfied with the level of care, bearing in mind the challenges of the dementia ward. There have been 3 or 4 times when I have not been happy. I have addressed it immediately. The room needing partial decoration does not help with perception. Plus what appears is rare deep cleans.
Staff are mainly friendly and helpful. But management are hard to find. Food seems average with lack of flexibility to individual needs.

My Dad was resident of Peacock Community at The Devonshire from October 24 to March 25. He had advanced Dementia. The care, support and overall experience was excellent.


He settled into life quickly in Peacock, making friends with the other residents, aided by the wonderful nurses and staff.


The food was great, the room and community always sparking clean, and the professional and emotional support provided to my Dad was brilliant.


We were always made to feel welcome when we visited by all the staff who were always professional and personable.


it was evident on my many visits that my Dad and other residents enjoyed life at Peacock, the care provided and dignity he received in his final days were brilliant.

I visited my Brother for a few hours on the 29th of December 2024. This was my first visit. Due to building works it was a little bit unclear how to access the building. Apart from the building works I was very impressed with all aspects of the care provided. One of the senior nurses had related my
Brother to a quieter room which was greatly appreciated. There was also lots of positive interaction between the staff and my brother. Generally, the staff was very helpful. Overall there was a very positive atmosphere in the home and a clear sense that residents were well looked after.

Lately, staff shortages are acutely observed. This leads to inadequate care and support for the resident. Existing staff try their best but this may not be sufficient at all times.
The care home is currently going through a major refurbishment but the staff quarters aren't included in this. By staff
I mean the people who actually provide the service and look after the residents.

I would like to express my appreciation and gratitude for this lovely home. My husband spent his last six months there, he was happy and well looked after. From personal care to the meals and activities everything was of the highest standards. Their units are well designed for mobile residents who can
walk along the corridors, stretch their legs, communicate with other residents, and feel free, and feel like they are in their own homes. The friendly staff goes the extra mile to provide a very high professional care and person centred approach to all their residents. I have been visiting this home every day at different times and have seen the residents clean, happy, and entertained. From our previous experiences at the other care homes in Reading (as short stays) the River View is the best home because they really do understand the needs of people with dementia. All this makes this home safe and comfortable. A very special thanks to the Kingfisher unit staff for looking after our loved ones.

My grandadgy was well looked after in the care home. The staff supported him very well. He died a peaceful death in the presence of my mother, there was nothing the staff would not do for him within their capabilities. Our mother has been living at Riverview Tilehurst for more than six months. We are self-funding which is why we looked at private care homes, much more expensive. What is the most important question you need to ask all homes, what happens when self-funding dries up? Most told us they would not accept
state payments.
With Riverview and two other care homes associated with Reading Borough council which did not suit us, all will accept the state funding when my mother's money runs out which is so important.
We are so fortunate to have chosen Riverview. Friendly carers, nurses, and management. Mum is now happy there and considers it her home. At lunch times we were offered if we wanted to stay and eat with her, and always made us welcome. Please do not listen to those who say a friend of a friend said such and such.
Thank you to all the carers, staff, and management who are looking after our mum, we are so fortunate to place her at Riverview Tilehurst, Reading.

Job Title: Deputy Manager

Joined: 2014

Ancy has bought a length of knowledge and experience with her to River View as she joined in 2014. Ancy first qualified as a nurse in India in 2005 at the best University there. She was top of her class and the second-best student to qualify. She was then able to continue her studies in Sweden on an exchange. Ancy studied oncology and palliative care and was also a cancer nurse. She originally wanted to be a doctor, however, she has been working in dementia care since 2010 and loves looking after people. Ancy was promoted to Deputy Manager 2022 from Clinical Lead.
Ancy is a mum of 2 and enjoys family time.

Job Title: RGN Nurse

Joined: 2010

Barbara has been nursing for over 30 years. Having qualified and practised in Zimbabwe she then crossed the waters to travel to the UK. Barbara first joined River View 2010 and worked under the previous owners before Maria Mallaband took over the home 2017. Nursing is her love and passion.
Barbara is looking forward to travelling again, as her family are all over the world, and looking forward to exercise and church groups again.

Kukku qualified as a nurse in 2013 in India. she left her country and joined River View in 2020. She has studied English proficiency since arriving in the UK. Kukku has continued with her studies taking a Continuing Practitioner Course and will continue her studies thereafter. Kukku is passionate about working with the ill and elderly and always new she wanted to be a nurse. She joined River View as she felt the position was a great opportunity and the company offered her extra support with continuing with her studies.

Veronica joined River View in April 2004. She previously worked at the Battle Hospital which has since gone from Reading. Veronica has great knowledge of the local area and enjoys taking the residents for park walks and picnics, as well as many in-house activities and exercises. She understands who needs more support and has built great friendships with residents and families over the years. Her focus is on everyone’s well-being
