The Devonshire provides 24-hour nursing care, in addition to supporting those living with dementia and other long-term conditions.

Conveniently located to nearby Tilehurst village, the home benefits from excellent local transport links and is easily accessible by train, bus and car.

The Devonshire is divided into smaller accommodation units, offering an intimate friendly atmosphere where residents and carers get to know each other well and staff can tailor care to the individual and differing needs of residents.

All 137 rooms are en-suite and are decorated with modern fixtures and fittings.

The activity team provide a daily programme of activities and events that appeal to the hobbies and interests of residents including baking and arts and carts.

The home hosts regular events inviting local community groups to the home and welcome entertainers for the enjoyment on all residents home on a regular basis. External trips out are also organised for residents, their families and friends.

Hidden tablets in food, resident hurt by wheelchair, resident covered in bruises. The resident being forced to walk instead of at own pace, and unidentified infection on the resident's eyes, legs feet and neck. Even had to tell staff to change resident's pad due to being soiled.
Staff were asking me
to help move a resident from wheelchair to a lounge chair. I came to visit a family friend who'd I seen in hospital 2 weeks prior who was walking, talking and able to say what was wrong but now, she can't walk, stand or talk and being fed medication hidden in her food. Unacceptable, staff rude, heavy-handed and disrespectful. Worst place ever.

Great staff member looking after my sister, who is very difficult and at times downright nasty. I can't get her to do anything, but they can and keep her calm and clean. She's obsessed with the food and they seem to know how to deal with it all.

Always welcomed with a smile from the staff ready to help in any way. My wife has been at Riverview for four years and is always well-dressed and clean. She needs assistance with most things and seems always to be content, safe and calm. Excellent combination of medication and care. The place was nicely
decorated for Christmas and the new year with seasonal activities enjoyed by all.

My mother is a resident here with dementia and has been for a number of years. (Not my choice). A year ago I went to visit my mother and her face was like she had been battered, she also marks on her arm and her legs. She fell they said, those injuries were not consistent with her falling and being
found on the floor. God knows how long she was there for. I was not told she had been taken to hospital for a check-up and then discharged. Since then her health and weight has rapidly and I mean rapidly declined. The manager of the home assured me I would be notified of any further incidents. Imagine my shock, horror and then anger to find out my mother was taken to hospital last week and now been given end of life care and I had to find this out a week after the event from a sister from London who visited my mother. I have just reported this to the Care Quality Commission and The Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman.

We are pleased with the care my husband is receiving.
He will smile at the staff warmly which makes us feel happy.
Our only concern is the garden and lack of space due to the 80% of it uphill, we would worry about our loved one falling.
If he was only in a wheelchair this would be ok but the patio
area is not a large area for all the residents.

Myself and my daughter and granddaughter some every weel to see my mum. She always looks clean and smells nice. The staff are always available to walk to when needed and we love the entertainment team and the dog, Teddy. Mum is always happy when she sees Teddy.

The staff at the care home are genuinely amazing. They looked after my mother-in-law with such love, care and kindness. I am so grateful that she was placed here and I know that she came to love all the staff, kissing them on their hands and calling them her friends. The dignity and respect for her

Mum went to River View Care Centre initially for assessment and then for palliative care. All the staff were lovely, helpful, caring and kind. The food and accommodation were of a high standard. Mum was the happiest she had been for a long time.

I have visited my friend at River View, Oaks unit after 3 years due to COVID. He is looking well despite all the medical issues he has, he is even better than me. I put it down to good care and support which he is receiving. The staff are caring and nothing I can falter in his care.
The food was tasty

Job Title: Deputy Manager

Joined: 2014

Ancy has bought a length of knowledge and experience with her to River View as she joined in 2014. Ancy first qualified as a nurse in India in 2005 at the best University there. She was top of her class and the second-best student to qualify. She was then able to continue her studies in Sweden on an exchange. Ancy studied oncology and palliative care and was also a cancer nurse. She originally wanted to be a doctor, however, she has been working in dementia care since 2010 and loves looking after people. Ancy was promoted to Deputy Manager 2022 from Clinical Lead.
Ancy is a mum of 2 and enjoys family time.

Joined: 2004

Alva has a great length of quality, qualifications and experience. After working as a Sister in a private health centre in Zimbabwe, she came to the UK in 2003 and joined River View in 2004. Alva is a Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother - her loving caring nature oozes out of her as she says 'the best therapy is giving care to others'

Virginia joined The River View Care Centre at the very start of 2012. She had previously worked in Care Homes in in the UK for 21 years. Virginia had come to the UK from South Africa where she had worked in Livingstone Hospital for 20 years. Virginia has a length of knowledge and experience she has bought to us having first qualified in 1973. She has said that all of her family are teachers but this is her passion. She will always be nursing as 'there is nothing better than to care for others'.

Barbara has been nursing for over 30 years. Having qualified and practised in Zimbabwe she then crossed the waters to travel to the UK. Barbara first joined River View 2010 and worked under the previous owners before Maria Mallaband took over the home 2017. Nursing is her love and passion.
Barbara is looking forward to travelling again, as her family are all over the world, and looking forward to exercise and church groups again.

Sunita joined River View in 2013. She started her nursing career in Nepal 2007.
Sunita's children have always known their mother as a nurse and appreciate quality time with her due to her working hours.

Job Title: Nurse - RGN

Joined: 2017

Kailesh joined River View in 2017. He has a great length of experience behind him after nursing at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. He was also a nurse in a prison and an immigration nurse. He loved his role as a Forensic Nurse for Thames Valley Police but unfortunately had to return to Malaysia due to family commitments. Prior to nursing, Kalilesh served 7 years in the British Army after arriving from Malaysia where he was a teacher.
Outside of work, he likes to run and enjoy family time

Cecelia was working in Gatwick Airport when she decided to retrain and educate as a chef in 2012, as her passion had always been to cook. While she was studying she wrote a book ' If I become a child again' which was published 2013. After qualifying with excellence she worked as a chef always in the care environment and Head Chef for the last 6 years. River View has been very lucky to welcome her December 2021.
When asked what her signature dish was Cecelia had to really think hard. She replied - I just enjoy cooking and place my passion in all of my food. Thank you Cecelia - we shall enjoy eating it all.

Job Title: Senior Carer

Joined: 2018

Srijana was a qualified nurse in Nepal and practiced there for 3 years until she came to the UK with her husband. She has had to retrain in the UK as the qualifications are slightly different here. Srijana is a Senior Carer at River View and qualified to deliver medications. She is continuing her study to qualify as Care Practitioner later this year. Always smiling Srijana will then continue with her studies.

Job Title: Nurse Assistant

Joined: 2020

Kukku qualified as a nurse in 2013 in India. she left her country and joined River View in 2020. She has studied English proficiency since arriving in the UK. Kukku has continued with her studies taking a Continuing Practitioner Course and will continue her studies thereafter. Kukku is passionate about working with the ill and elderly and always new she wanted to be a nurse. She joined River View as she felt the position was a great opportunity and the company offered her extra support with continuing with her studies.

Sam joined the team at River View at the age of 17 as a carer. His devotion to his work, and to the residents, led to him being nominated and winning 'Employee of the Year' in the Pride of Reading Awards.

Sam became a part of the River View team at the end of 2020. She relocated to Reading leaving her Home Administrator role of 6 years as her husband is serving in the British Army and relocated to Berkshire. Sam has come from a hotel and administration background.
Outside of work she enjoys family time, long dog walks and sunshine holidays

After working in the health, fitness and hospitality sector for over 20 years, Debi joined River View in 2021. Her passion is to build new relationships as well as to keep educating all the time. Debi has enjoyed fundraising and organising many events and is now a patron of her local disabilities charity. She spends fun times sky-diving in a 4-way team outside of work.

Job Title: Training Coordinator / Carer Assistant

Joined: 2017

Charles started his career in care as a support worker in Harrogate. River View was lucky enough to welcome Charles in 2017 when he relocated to Reading to be closer to family. Both his wife and sister also work and the home.
All of Charles’ family work in the medical profession and now he is furthering his own career by studying to be a nurse. His calming approach to work lets him enjoy football and cricket in his free time.

Job Title: Activities Coordinator

Joined: 2004

Veronica joined River View in April 2004. She previously worked at the Battle Hospital which has since gone from Reading. Veronica has great knowledge of the local area and enjoys taking the residents for park walks and picnics, as well as many in-house activities and exercises. She understands who needs more support and has built great friendships with residents and families over the years. Her focus is on everyone’s well-being
She is a Reading lady through and through with all of her family, and many grandchildren, close to her.

Job Title: Chef

Joined: 2018

After all of Manohar's family were part of the British Army, his father, brothers, and his grandfather who fought in World War 2, he broke the chain and became a chef. He left Nepal with his family arriving in the UK 2013 and worked in busy restaurants in London. For a quieter life, he moved his family to Reading in 2018 where both Manohar and his wife became carers at River View. Finally, a space in the kitchen became available where he was welcomed in December 2021. He is now back in his element and preparing meals for everyone in house.

Rose is a very local lady in Reading and joined River View in 2007. She loves her work as she says she enjoys the residents characters. She looks forward to the conversations and belly laughs they all enjoy. Rose relaxes at home in her garden reading as well as spending time with grandchildren.

Christine joined River View in 2015. She has worked as a domestic for over 20 years now having worked in previous care homes prior to joining River View. She says she role give her full enjoyment. At home she is still a busy lady enjoying time with her children and grandchildren.

Tapiwa joined River View in 2012. She was previously working at a private hospital in Reading. Tapiwa started working care in 2004 and has continued with ongoing training. Tapiwa was originally working in hospitality in Zimbabwe prior to coming to the UK over 20 years ago.
Tapiwa spends her time out of work being evolved with many community event's with her church. and family.

Elizabete came to the UK from Portugal and joined River View in 2018. She was a domestic in a large hotel, but now enjoys the company of the River View residents while at work. Elizabete likes to cook for her family and friends at home.

Joined: 2005

Kam was busy farming in Thailand and came to the UK 2003. She was working in a local hotel but didn't enjoy the work. She joined River View in 2005 and has loved every bit of it. She enjoys the environment and connects with her residents as an extended family. Kam says 'she loves her work'. She is a busy lady with her family and relaxes with a word search or crossword.

Rugiatu has travelled from Sierra Leone and joined River View 2018. She is now doing her studies of Maths and English and will then continue with her studies to become a full-time nurse.

Emma joined River View in 2019. She stepped away from teaching to worked in social care. Emma enjoys the company and conversations with the residents. Emma is a keen gardener and finds this very therapeutic.

Jenivee joined River View at the start of 2020. After working in Real Estate in the Philippines she was also a Care Giver. The Care profession is a career that she's always wanted to pursue. She enjoys the work environment and the residents around her.

Alison joined River View 2006 and stayed here very happily for 10 years. After working for another care home for a year she missed the environment and the team at River View so she returned 2017. She enjoys meeting the residents and said 'its the people who keep you here'. Alison is a social lady who enjoys holidays and traveling with her husband.

Halima joined River View at the start of the year 2021 after working in the care sector for 4 years. She was also a carer for family members. Halima enjoy looking after people and socialising with all. Outside of work she has a hobby of henna painting where she enjoys preparing people for weddings and other celebrations.

Anna joined River View at the start of 2021. She worked for British Airways as a kitchen porter and made a lifestyle career change due to the pandemic. Anna first started nurse studies in Romania, when her children were small, as it was a dream to be a nurse. Now her family have grown up she decided to go back to her passion and complete her studies. Anna will qualify as a nurse August 2021 where she will stay at River View and continue her dream role.
