My mother has been in care now since coming out from 2 2-month stay in hospital. For 6 weeks now and another 2 weeks in that time, I have found the staff/nurses very friendly helpful well organised and caring for my mother in a respectable professional way. She has already put on weight 3 kilos, still
underweight, and bed-bound, but she is in late Alzheimer's, Dementia at age 82. She is very clean and they always ask if you want food and drinks. In my opinion excellent first time in a care home.

I went to Florence House yesterday to visit my father who is in a bad way, but the nursing staff and the manager were amazing and doing such a good job with my father. As for his birthday, they even put balloons and banners up for him on his door and his window and they made us so welcome. How he did
improve there since he came out of hospital and he even put on some weight, but I want to thank all of the staff for what they have done for him. The room was so much better than I thought and there was enough room in there too, so I was so surprised to see all of the cards he had received on the mantelpiece where he could see them. You have all helped him so much and I thank you from the bottom of my heart and he has done well. Even though he is a fighter, he is struggling now as he isn’t so strong, but he still keeps on going and such an amazing man is my father. So many thanks to all of you and to the manager who spent some time with me.

Mum, aged 89, was transferred to Florence House for palliative care following an operation for a fractured hip and a fractured wrist. She survived for only 10 days and during that short time the effect on her well-being and appearance was very significant. The staff were invariably sympathetic, kind
and attentive, resulting in an overwhelming improvement to her appearance and comfort. During this short, but important final phase of her life, the family were invariably impressed with the staff and thankful for the improvement to her final days. It was for both our family and the staff of Florence House, a job well done.

The staff at Florence House looked after my father in his final days and were wonderful. They treated him with kindness and dignity, and he was very well cared for. The staff were kind to both my father and our family, and I would highly recommend Florence House.

To begin; not just February 2022. I appreciate calls from Florence House regarding my husband's well-being etc. I have received several of these over time.
From my point of view, it's reassuring having regular updates. I also very much appreciate your lovely staff who always greet me with a smile
and usually ask how I am. I've also noticed how kind the staff are to other residents while I am visiting; it's both reassuring and heart-warming.
Sometimes when I phone to book visits I unknowingly pick one of your very busy times and am asked if I mind phoning back a little later. I fully understand how busy each day is and it's no problem to phone and book at a later time.
Your staff are always welcoming, friendly and polite.
I know my husband is being looked after very well
Thank you sincerely.

We were so lucky that there was space for my father in Florence House when he was transferred from Royal Berkshire Hospital in late November 2021 for palliative care. The room he was in was nice and clean with a nice view, but most of all the care from all the staff was fantastic.
I was called in
the morning of mid-January to be told they thought our father did not have much time left. My sister and I sat with him all day. The carers bought us food and drinks all day, It was so nice that as carers and nurses came on shift or got a chance, they came and asked us if they could hold his hand and say their goodbyes. Our father slipped away late afternoon.

We are so grateful for the compassion and care our father was given. Thank you so much.

Current Review Score: 8.3 (8.315)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.3 (8.315) out of 10 for Florence House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.875 for Florence House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (29 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 32 Ratings = 4.875

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.44 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Florence House Care Home is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 79 registered maximum number of service users is 15.8. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 15.8 = 0.19

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
