This well-equipped Tudor-style house provides a comfortable and relaxing environment. Residents can socialise in the main lounge or relax in the quiet lounge as they choose, while the spacious gardens and patio can be enjoyed in warmer weather. Most bedrooms have en-suite facilities and can be personalised to suit individual tastes.

Much culinary expertise has gone into making meals balanced and appealing, meeting personal diet needs and favourites. Hot and cold drinks are always available and homemade cake is another popular addition.

Themed monthly events are part of the varied activities calendar, which includes visits from local performers, pampering sessions and excursions.

Always caring and attentive. All the staff are happy to spend time with my husband and to answer any queries or requests we might have. He has settled well and I can relax knowing that he is in good hands.

Should anyone need a safe space for their loved ones in the future, I would highly recommend the Argyles Care Home - this home is run by angels, and in the 10 years my father has been there they have been considerate and caring in equal measures. Everyone we have met has normalised the horrific situation
we found ourselves in as an extended family. Dignified care following a diagnosis for a rare and debilitating disease, they have taken the strain. They are amazing people. Genuinely grateful.

My mum has been at Argyles for a little while now. Mum is more relaxed the longer she has been here and enjoys the activities. My mum has got a lovely room and she enjoys the food, they have a good selection and choice. My mum has definitely put on weight which is good.

Mum took several weeks to settle into Argyles, as she is a very anxious lady and a whole new world had been entered into for her and the family. The staff are lovely, however, now after around six to seven weeks, we can see a vast improvement in her. She is smiling again and although reluctantly, now
joins in with the activities, but ends up loving it. Her safety and care needs are met.

The staff at the Argyles are excellent, nothing is too much trouble and the residents are their first priority. The home is very clean and airy. I do feel the building needs a refresh to lighten and brighten it up.
The admin team are also exceptionally good. This is always a difficult time and a caring
attitude is necessary.

My mother has spent alot of time here at the Argyles on respite and now on end of life.
The staff, nurses etc are fantastic and have always welcomed Mum warmly and as part of the family.

I am very pleased with my care in the home but at times care is given to other residents for minor things. I was left in my wheelchair for 3/4 hours while next door had 7 visits. Otherwise good care.

My review as I see it, there are several which I do not like, ie door slamming and shouting. Other than that, it is quite a happy place, quite happy to recommend this establishment.

Extremely friendly staff and friendly atmosphere. I feel the care is appropriate. My Mum has enjoyed the food and is being well looked after. It has given the family reassurance about her safety after a fall. Very safe hands. Efficient drug care.

It was lovely to visit my Dad this week and to be able to sit and chat with him in the lounge overlooking the lovely spring garden, which has not been possible for a long time due to Covid rules. The staff are all so lovely and you can tell they genuinely care about their residents. It gives me peace
of mind to know that Dad is happy and is being well looked after. It is always lovely to see pictures of the residents enjoying the many activities provided which are regularly posted on the website. They are a lovely reminder that Dad and others are being cared for and enjoying themselves. If I ever need an update on Dad I know all I have to do is pick up the phone or email and I get a quick response. My dad has always had a wicked sense of humour, which they have tuned into and know just what to say to bring a lovely smile to his face. Hopefully going forward we can all enjoy spending time in the garden with our loved ones when the long-awaited summer arrives.

Have found the staff to be helpful and friendly to family members. The staff are accommodating, and any concerns we have are noted and quickly resolved. The staff take on board any interest and try to talk about it to him. They also assist him when making food choices when he is undecided. He always
enjoys his food. Overall, I have found the Argyles excellent.

My mother has been a resident for six weeks. It was short notice admission, managers and staff were helpful and efficient; they continue to be so. They are good communicators with family and sort out all the problems.

The care Mum receives at Argyles Care Home in Newbury is exemplary. The staff are all very caring and professional and always willing to go the extra mile to keep Mum feeling happy and safe. Mum enjoys their company, the home-cooked meals, and cake, she even received a birthday cake the kitchen staff
made a month ago. Staff keep us up to date with any medical changes Mum experiences which is very reassuring for the family. We are extremely happy with Mum's care here and would not hesitate to recommend the home to anyone.

At the review last year, we asked for an en-suite toilet. We also raised concerns about 'falls' and not drinking enough, which means she gets constant water infections.
We had no update.

The staff are caring and the facilities are very good. The communications are always timely and professional. They seem to have settled staff making it easier to get to know and talk to them. Mum has had a week in hospital recently. She returned to the Argyles Care Home and the warm welcome she received from all the staff was wonderful. Her bedroom had been freshly prepared and the care and attention she received while moving from the ambulance to her bedroom was excellent. Every effort
was made to ensure she was settled and comfortable. Many thanks to all the superb staff.

My name is Jane and I am the home manager at Argyles.


I have been a qualified nurse since 1991, having trained at Warwick and Coventry in the late 80’s.


My career started in neuro-rehab and I worked at a hospital in Birmingham where I cared mostly for patients with MS, MND, MSA and post CVA.


Following my marriage to a ‘Southerner’ I moved to Newbury in Berkshire with the promise it would only be for ‘a year’. I have now lived in Newbury for 33 years!


I was unsure of where I wanted my career to take me so helped to commission a brand-new nursing home in Overton, Hampshire, where I was appointed deputy manager. I then moved to a smaller nursing home in Reading, where I could continue my neuro-rehab but with an elderly clientele.


Following the birth of my daughter Cassia, I decided to look for work around child care. I worked at a health spa as a nurse advisor at weekends and did bank work via an agency on night shifts.


Once my daughter was at school, I was able to return to my love of neuro-rehab and was offered the position of RN at Sandleford Hospital, which later became Donnington ward at
West Berks Community Hospital. I became a senior nurse on day shifts and loved working with the local GP team which covered the ward. So much so, that when I was offered a position at the GP surgery as a practice nurse, I jumped at the chance.


I spent 12 years at Eastfield House and had a very varied career during this time, whilst simultaneously continuing my education and completing a number of different health related diplomas.


Throughout my time at the surgery, my workload was mostly with the older population – an age group which I continued to love working with. When I saw a position advertised to give input at a nursing home as a clinical lead I was determined to go and provide the care I could in an area that I loved.


In 2020, I joined Bupa and the rest is history! I love working as part of a team and really like the collaborative way of working with my colleagues both within the care home and across the whole of Bupa.


Born in Stratford-upon-Avon, and then living in Birmingham I always classed myself as a bit of a Northerner, however, following my marriage and move to Newbury I have spent more time in the South of the Country and love being here. I live a mile from the Argyles so mostly walk to work.


My parents are still both in the Midlands, and also my daughter, so I do still travel up to Birmingham, but my real passion is travelling to Australia to visit my brother and sister in Brisbane and Queensland.


I also love gardening and have a 1/3 of an acre to potter in and grow my own fruit and veg.


My other passion is dogs. I have a setter called Porthos who comes to work with me daily and is one of the homes ‘therapy dogs.’ I also foster for the charity SebPRA.org and have had quite a few dogs stay overnight, a week or months, on the way to their forever families. The standing joke in our house is that I like dogs more than people! (True).


My daughter has recently had a cockerpoo puppy, Zenna, so I am also a grandma to an eight month old ball of fluff!


Other than that, I love cooking, chocolate and reading.
