This well-equipped Tudor-style house provides a comfortable and relaxing environment. Residents can socialise in the main lounge or relax in the quiet lounge as they choose, while the spacious gardens and patio can be enjoyed in warmer weather. Most bedrooms have en-suite facilities and can be personalised to suit individual tastes.

Much culinary expertise has gone into making meals balanced and appealing, meeting personal diet needs and favourites. Hot and cold drinks are always available and homemade cake is another popular addition.

My Mother is treated with respect - the staff are kind. She is listened to and appropriate help is given. Activities are varied and interesting, latterly the hatching of chicks over the Easter period, singing, gardening, poetry, cooking, visits to Memory cafe, Science Museum, quizzes and many more.
A friendly caring home.

Your round the clock care of our friend was exemplary. You allowed us to come and go as we pleased, spending what time we could and it was OK with you when a lot of us visited at once. Thank you for allowing us to care for him as we would if he had been at home, with music playing 24/7. Nothing was

My friend has received excellent care in his last few weeks of life. Whilst he was unable to take part in the activities he received attentive, caring staff. The food at meal times was varied and appetising even though he didn't always eat much of it.
The staff have very important jobs to do and every
one of them that I met was friendly, caring, kind and capable well done!

The carers at the Argyles Care Home are attentive, professional and kind. I feel safe leaving my next of kin in their care. He has all his pictures on the wall and nick nacks from home and friends are always welcomed. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and the carers and staff are always on hand
to answer any questions or concerns. My next of kin is a youngish man receiving palliative care to end of life. I could not have made a better choice.

This care home continues to provide excellent care and activities for all residents. The leader of activities is always thinking of new ways to engage and entertain the residents. Always there are quizzes, visits from outside groups; just recently dancers who gave a great performance of ballroom dancing.
The other day residents were making mince pies etc. My mother has thrived in this nurturing environment and I always feel welcome when I visit.

In my view and experience, the activities coordinator goes well beyond the call of duty to provide not only excellent opportunity and activities but also to try and ensure each person's needs are met. Personally, I feel there is great pressure on staff - especially those willing to go the extra mile

Following the sudden death of my mother, I had to arrange emergency respite care for my father who suffers from MND. His condition has rendered him immobile and he has trouble communicating. In conjunction with Social Services, the manager of this care home attended my father's home address at short
notice on her way home from work to review my father to ensure they could offer the level of care required. She was friendly, helpful and within two days the placement was made.
Every member of staff I encountered whilst visiting my father was friendly and the staff went out of their way to ensure my father was as comfortable as possible. This gave me peace of mind and the time I needed to make all the arrangements for my mother's funeral. My father is a creature of habit and a tad OCD so at first he found the change in regime a little irksome but did state that if he had to stay in a home he was prepared to stay at the Argyles.

The Argyles Care Home has caused my family severe distress.


I just want to urge anyone who is looking for palliative care to take the time and make sure you are seeking it from the right place for you and your family, even if you need it urgently. The Argyles has many good reviews but it was not

suitable for my family and potentially others in similar situations.

Admitted at very short notice, my mum immediately was welcomed with warmth and care by the staff. She is very independent and they performed some procedures that could have been humiliating but were carried out with such grace she never felt a loss of dignity. All the staff genuinely had a personal
connection with her. Even though she was there for only 3 weeks. I certainly felt how much they liked being with her and personally would like to thank everyone for making my mums last days full of love, comfort and care xxx

My husband has been in the Argyles for two or three years and has been treated very well in that time.
The staff have been very kind to him and his relatives.
Any minor complaints have been quickly dealt with and my husband seems quite happy.

I have been here for 1 week respite and my visit has been marvellous. I am already booked to come again in May and I am very much looking forward to returning. Absolutely first class, excellent, outstanding care for my mother during the last 3 weeks of her life. With Mum being fiercely independent, we were dreading this move - but the manager and the team have been fantastic throughout, from our first visit to the dignified way her departure has been handled.
All the staff (management, nurses, carers, catering, DIY etc) are always smiling and attentive, genuinely very caring. Mum always felt safe, secure and cared for - 'my little haven' as she said. Thank you Argyles - we could not have hoped to have found a better place.

I visit my friends at Argyles Care Home but I also go to the community club.
The lady runs it very well with a good choice of activities and entertainment which are all very enjoyable.
The community club is a lovely and friendly environment and I would recommend visiting to my other friends.

what I've seen their staff are all wonderful people.
The home is a nice clean place.
Whenever I've been to Argyles everything is immaculate.

The community day is held at Argyles Care Home every month run by the activity lady and others. Members of the public attend as well as residents so it's a great way to socialise and meet new people. Every month there's something different and there's a wide variety of activities available and a raffle
every time. It's great fun and I would recommend it to others. The carers at this home are so lovely here too. My room is lovely and a perfect fit for me. The food and drink is also superb.

The activities coordinator holds a very good afternoon at the Argyles Care Home community club and works very hard to provide different things each month. It is an enjoyable afternoon for all of us. Another activity I attend is the afternoon sing-a-long. It's lovely to get everyone singing and the activities

My name is Jane and I am the home manager at Argyles.


I have been a qualified nurse since 1991, having trained at Warwick and Coventry in the late 80’s.


My career started in neuro-rehab and I worked at a hospital in Birmingham where I cared mostly for patients with MS, MND, MSA and post CVA.


Following my marriage to a ‘Southerner’ I moved to Newbury in Berkshire with the promise it would only be for ‘a year’. I have now lived in Newbury for 33 years!


I was unsure of where I wanted my career to take me so helped to commission a brand-new nursing home in Overton, Hampshire, where I was appointed deputy manager. I then moved to a smaller nursing home in Reading, where I could continue my neuro-rehab but with an elderly clientele.


Following the birth of my daughter Cassia, I decided to look for work around child care. I worked at a health spa as a nurse advisor at weekends and did bank work via an agency on night shifts.


Once my daughter was at school, I was able to return to my love of neuro-rehab and was offered the position of RN at Sandleford Hospital, which later became Donnington ward at
West Berks Community Hospital. I became a senior nurse on day shifts and loved working with the local GP team which covered the ward. So much so, that when I was offered a position at the GP surgery as a practice nurse, I jumped at the chance.


I spent 12 years at Eastfield House and had a very varied career during this time, whilst simultaneously continuing my education and completing a number of different health related diplomas.


Throughout my time at the surgery, my workload was mostly with the older population – an age group which I continued to love working with. When I saw a position advertised to give input at a nursing home as a clinical lead I was determined to go and provide the care I could in an area that I loved.


In 2020, I joined Bupa and the rest is history! I love working as part of a team and really like the collaborative way of working with my colleagues both within the care home and across the whole of Bupa.


Born in Stratford-upon-Avon, and then living in Birmingham I always classed myself as a bit of a Northerner, however, following my marriage and move to Newbury I have spent more time in the South of the Country and love being here. I live a mile from the Argyles so mostly walk to work.


My parents are still both in the Midlands, and also my daughter, so I do still travel up to Birmingham, but my real passion is travelling to Australia to visit my brother and sister in Brisbane and Queensland.


I also love gardening and have a 1/3 of an acre to potter in and grow my own fruit and veg.


My other passion is dogs. I have a setter called Porthos who comes to work with me daily and is one of the homes ‘therapy dogs.’ I also foster for the charity SebPRA.org and have had quite a few dogs stay overnight, a week or months, on the way to their forever families. The standing joke in our house is that I like dogs more than people! (True).


My daughter has recently had a cockerpoo puppy, Zenna, so I am also a grandma to an eight month old ball of fluff!


Other than that, I love cooking, chocolate and reading.
