Hungerford Care Home provides general nursing care and more focused nursing care for residents living with dementia.

Situated in rural Berkshire on the outskirts of the historic market town of Hungerford, the home has extensive grounds and gardens with a rose garden and an orchard, where wildlife can frequently be spotted.

The home offers a range of onsite facilities and services, including hairdressing, aromatherapy, and chiropody, while the dementia wing has a multi-sensory room.

Residents can eat tasty and nutritious meals, which are freshly cooked by onsite chefs, in the communal dining room or privately in their own rooms if they wish to do so. Residents are welcome to offer input to menu ideas, with a Residents’ Food Committee meeting quarterly to provide them with the opportunity to do this.

The home’s activities coordinator provides residents with a detailed recreation programme to ensure they are engaged and occupied throughout their time at Hungerford Care Home. These are organised with input from residents and relatives.

A beautiful care home that is very well-kept inside and out. The staff are always very nice and always happy to help. The events and activities are very good, and I love following them on Facebook. I especially love the therapy ponies!
My relative's toilet is a little bit dirty and dusty.

My husband received the best care we could wish for right to the end. Not only for him but for all of his immediate family and visitors. Nothing was ever too much trouble. Their care and kindness was exemplary.

Thank you to the wonderful staff at Hungerford care home who took care of my Mum so well. Due to the nature of her illness she was not the easiest person to care for, but the staff always treated her with kindness, understanding and respect. One nurse and the deputy manager, in particular, were always
so kind to her, and they were compassionate and supportive to us (her daughters), whilst also always being honest about her condition and state of mind, which is so important.
The only downside for me was that the garden for the dementia wing is not great and there weren't sufficient opportunities for my mum to be outside. Dementia sufferers are often restless and want to walk. It wouldn't be difficult to create a circular route around the garden to allow people like my mother to wander. And residents should be taken outside daily, which didn't seem to happen.

Thank you so must to all the staff at the care home. A special thanks to the manager and the wonderful nurse.
We had Nana in the home for her 2 final days. The help and care we got were amazing. I highly recommend this home they go above and beyond to make sure your loved one is feeling good, even
in a very difficult time.
They did not only look after Nana they also made sure the whole family was okay. It has now nearly been 2 weeks and I got a call from 2 days ago just to check in and Grandad had had the same.
We can not thank you enough for making this very difficult time as easy as possible.

The home provides very good specialist care for residents with dementia in a separate wing. In particular, there is a good range of activities including armchair volleyball, singing and art. @My mother particularly enjoyed a recent french day. A great deal of preparation had gone into the event which
could be seen in the photographs made available to the family.

My father has recently passed but had a fantastic stay at Hungerford Care Home while he was there I attempted to get him and others involved in the dementia safe garden. So much did I enjoy the work and the friendly banter with the staff I am still helping in the garden and many other aspects of the

Visits have been extremely careful, professional and personable under these 'strange difficult times'. Carers and staff always listen and are friendly, supporting and caring. Sadly with the lockdown and restrictions there has been deterioration in my mum, so to meet her needs I think there should be
more staff and nurses to be on duty, with a pay rise! With more staff, I think the details of personal care, hygiene, one-to-one interaction, fresh air (when and if appropriate) could be more available.

My mother became a resident at the home 18 months ago. It is an extremely hard decision for anyone considering putting a relative into a care home, knowing that you are putting their care into the hands of strangers. As soon as I visited Hungerford Care Home I could tell my mother would be happy here,
it felt warm and homely and the staff were very caring and professional.
When she moved into the care home she was given a lovely bedroom with her own bathroom, we brought lots of photos to put up to make her feel more at home and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful with settling her in.
When I visit my mother she is content, clean and tells me she enjoys living at the care home. The staff are absolutely amazing and treat her like she is family, the food looks delicious and she enjoys it very much, as well as the little treats the staff regularly give to her.
It is a huge relief knowing that she is happy, safe and well cared for at the home, I recommend this home wholeheartedly.

My wife and myself have been married 60 years. I would say that about 80% of time in Hungerford Care Home she lives in a world she 'invents' in her mind and can discuss issues. Sadly, 20% of the time she slows down mentally and physically but the care she gets is excellent in Hungerford Care Home. I
could not provide a fraction of care she receives. Well done!

Starting as a care assistant, she has steadily advanced to management roles, holding managerial positions for the past decade. Before Hungerford, she was the registered manager and operations manager at a residential mental health clinic for over four years. One of her proudest achievements is obtaining CQC registration for a new clinic and achieving top ratings in all areas during the first inspection.


Outside of work, Julie enjoys reading and spending time with her family. Her most significant personal achievement is raising a child with special needs and advocating for her quality of life.
