Hungerford Care Home provides general nursing care and more focused nursing care for residents living with dementia.

Situated in rural Berkshire on the outskirts of the historic market town of Hungerford, the home has extensive grounds and gardens with a rose garden and an orchard, where wildlife can frequently be spotted.

The home offers a range of onsite facilities and services, including hairdressing, aromatherapy, and chiropody, while the dementia wing has a multi-sensory room.

Residents can eat tasty and nutritious meals, which are freshly cooked by onsite chefs, in the communal dining room or privately in their own rooms if they wish to do so. Residents are welcome to offer input to menu ideas, with a Residents’ Food Committee meeting quarterly to provide them with the opportunity to do this.

The home’s activities coordinator provides residents with a detailed recreation programme to ensure they are engaged and occupied throughout their time at Hungerford Care Home. These are organised with input from residents and relatives.

On the whole very welcoming, friendly and caring. Food could be more imaginative and able to be more responsive to needs.
The resident did find it difficult to understand different accents, better with those who spoke slowly, clearly and got down to her level.
Communication overall improved but
is vitally important.
Receptionist very good, welcoming and always helpful on the phone - patient.
Nursing staff helpful on the phone and took great trouble.
The outlook to the garden from the room was very good and made a great difference to the residents. Also, the opportunity to have her bird table within view was enormously valued by the resident.

My Mother had the pleasure of staying at this lovely home for plus 2 years until her passing away in may 2016. We would visit and it was so clear to us that Mum was treated with respect and dignity but most importantly it was home. All the staff worked tirelessly to ensure a clean, tidy home and the
medical attention provided for Mum was first class but also completed with dignity and loving care.
Hungerford care home to Mum and us was her home and all the people who cared, quality supported and showed love and respect deserve a big thank you.
We still revisit and are made to feel part of their big family, it is a real credit to the team that Mum loved the home and was showed quality care.
We would also like to high-quality of care and respect shown to us after my Mums passing.

I have observed high quality of care for my grandmother. The staff are polite, kind and extremely patient.
My grandmother always seems calm and content in her surroundings. The room/facilities seem ample and the building is well situated, quiet and in an attractive setting.

Everyone is very welcoming, very friendly, very helpful and only too pleased to do whatever is wanted or needed. Lots of things going on if you want to join in. Lovely and bright, clean and caring. Garden looks lovely too. Food is delicious - my mother in law is actually eating and has an appetite,
something I've never known before!

I can only speak as a visitor as my sister's goddaughter deals with any arrangements and finances with the care home.

I find the home to be friendly and relaxed with a good standard of professional care. My husband is comfortable in his room and enjoys having his meals and tea breaks in his room. All the staff are friendly towards my husband and enjoy a bit of banter with him.

My mother was admitted to Hungerford Care Home at very short notice. We were given a very warm welcome and everything was done to make the transition as stress free as possible. It was made very clear that the staff are there to support the whole family and there is always someone available for a chat
or advice if needed. Mother has a clean and cosy room with a fabulous view of the countryside and a peak at the menus suggests a varied and appetising choice of food. Early days but we are hopeful mother will settle well.

The Hungerford Care Home has, in my experience, provided the best care for its residents, including my mother.
The home has undergone great improvements over the past 12 months - a complete refurbishment.
The staff are, without exception, the greatest asset this home has.
The activities co-ordinator
is exceptional and works hard to include all residents in some form of activities throughout the weeks. Hard work, well done.

The receptionist is always polite and cheerful. My mother in law is well looked after, and the staff are brilliant. The food has no faults. The staff are always encouraging my mother in law to join in activities, not always does she choose to join in though. The home manager is supportive when we need
her. The care coordinator is very helpful. My mother in law is very happy here.

Recently I have moved rooms, the staff asked if I would like to move as one came available. My room is very nice even my old one was lovely too. The staff here are excellent and they treat everyone with dignity and respect. My favourite meal is fish and chips and we have this every Friday. I would recommend
this care home to friends and family as they are very professional in all that they do. The staff are what makes this home so special.

My mother was admitted into Hungerford Care Home in Jan 2016, she suffers from dementia. My wife works there as the activities coordinator and she introduced me to the manager. The manager achieved to make Hungerford Care Home the best in the area and having seen others briefly whilst trying to decide
which care home would be suitable for my mother, I think she is succeeding.
My wife has worked in a number of care homes before taking up employment at Hungerford Care Home a year ago, she knows the "market" and she agrees.
My mother is well looked after by excellent staff, is safe and seems to be happy here (although she has no idea where she is!!)

All of the care staff, home manager, everyone is absolutely brilliant. The support given by everyone is at a high level! The room is a very good standard. Activities have improved a lot recently and they always put a smile one peoples too.

My mum-in-law was cared for until her death in May 2016. I would like to thank Hungerford nursing home for making it a lovely home, caring environment and professional. All the staff are stars who smile and care in an exceptional manner. It was a home for my mother-in-law and nothing was too much.

Julie Daley, the Home Manager at Hungerford, has over 20 years of experience in health and social care. Starting as a care assistant, she has steadily advanced to management roles, holding managerial positions for the past decade. Before Hungerford, she was the registered manager and operations manager at a residential mental health clinic for over four years. One of her proudest achievements is obtaining CQC registration for a new clinic and achieving top ratings in all areas during the first inspection.


Outside of work, Julie enjoys reading and spending time with her family. Her most significant personal achievement is raising a child with special needs and advocating for her quality of life.


Julie advises those seeking the right care home to thoroughly explore and connect with the staff and management to ensure a good fit. She finds great joy in leading her team to success and cherishes the family-like atmosphere at Hungerford.
