  • St Mark's Care Home, Maidenhead
St Mark’s, rated ‘outstanding’ in March 2019, is a purpose-built home welcoming adults in need of nursing, residential, dementia or palliative care. The home also offers short stays for those who are looking for a little respite or convalescence care.

The home is split into four areas, made up of three nursing floors and a dedicated dementia area which is pleasant and modern, each with dining rooms and lounges.

A secure garden ensures that residents can make the most of good weather, too.

Residents are welcome to relax in any part of the home and can enjoy a little pampering in the hair salon, catch up with family over a drink in the bar or read a book in one of the quiet lounges.

The activity rooms are where residents can get creative, and there is a reminiscence room for rediscovering memories. There is a good-sized garden for anyone who wants to take a stroll and an enclosed sensory garden which is great for residents living with dementia.

Meals are made using fresh ingredients and residents can choose to eat in privacy or in dining rooms that overlook the gardens. Mid-morning hot drinks and homemade cake is also available.

Residents’ voices are woven into everything the home does, thanks to the resident and relative committee.

Residents can still do existing hobbies here and are welcome to suggest something different to try, as a group or on their own. Many activities are organised for mental and physical stimulation, including musical afternoons, arts and crafts and bingo. Movie afternoons are popular and there is a mobile library.

Superb, high and excellent standard of care and kindness shown at all times truly home from home. My aunt is very happy and content and it is good to know that she is so well cared for. The nurses and carers are like family to her.

The best review of a care home must surely be from a resident. To arrive at St Mark's to see my mother smiling and to hear her say " I love it here", is the very best recommendation. These are truly angels working within the dementia unit who treat the residents with care and respect. My mother has
been a resident for more than two years and despite arriving to St Mark's recovering from a fractured hip at 98, staff at St Mark's helped her reach 100 years young- soon to be 101!

I can't thank St Marks enough for accommodating us at short notice for respite for my Mum, from the first time I was shown around the home by a lady who was so very helpful, I could feel the warmth of the home at every corner. When Mum went into the home for respite the whole team showed her compassion
and understanding and was also very patient with her and us. The nurse was amazing and I have to say that goes for the whole team including, housekeeping, reception and of course all the dedicated carers. They made Mum and us feel very welcome, nothing was too much trouble!

Throughout the 2 3/4 years my cousin was in Eton Ward she was treated with professional care, kindness, and understanding. Her comfort was paramount, and all the staff members gave her a happy life as possible, and her slow decline both physically and mentally was acknowledged. From reception, unit
staff, and the laundry staff, everyone gave her consideration and made her feel a valued person in her own right and the weekly signing, dog visits, and crucial visits of passing staff made her day to day bed bound experience no real burden. My cousin's last days were pain-free and dignified, always immaculate. The staff often sat with her. We really appreciate their splendid care and the fact that they made sure she did not die alone.

My mum spent two weeks respite at St Mark's, and honestly, I couldn't fault a single thing. My mum is extremely anxious, and we were worried how she would get on. All staff were so friendly and helpful, and when we visited, my mum smiled, this was a street-free time which we needed as a family. Thank

My friend was transferred to St Mark's after spending 3 weeks in hospital.
When visiting her I found the staff very welcoming and friendly and thought it was a safe and caring environment.

Mum has been at St Mark's since late 2023. She transferred there from hospital where she had been for 10 weeks. Prior to that, Mum had wanted to stay at home with carers, but that wasn't working and Mum had been lonely and depressed for many years.
The transition to St Mark's was difficult, and it
took a few months to settle. However, there is now a very marked difference in Mum. The staff get her up and dressed and she spends time in the dayroom. When the weather is nice she spends time in the beautiful gardens which she enjoys very much.
The staff are all very kind and care for my Mum very well. The last time I visited she told me she felt very lucky to be staying there. She is more like Mum of 7 or 8 years ago, no longer depressed or lonely.
I am more than happy with the care Mum receives. Thank you.

Daytime staff and nurses have provided a loving, safe and caring environment for our loved one. Windsor Unit has been our loved one's home for four years and every staff member who cares for our loved one is friendly and respectful, we are informed of any changes and can see that our loved one trusts
the staff. They are supportive to us when the days get difficult and challenging. We are more than happy with the care received.

The staff have been very kind and helpful in every way. I have benefitted from my time here in my recovery from a broken femur. My only concern is that it is very noisy a times, particularly from other people's televisions and conversations. Also, other residents shouting and banging at night. The time
spent on the grounds was particularly enjoyable. Overall a good experience.

We attempt to visit every two weeks but only on a Sunday so are unable to comment on activities as we haven't seen any. In the early days of our visits, we noted that our relative was often unshaven with un-washed hair and in need of a manicure. However, this has improved in the last several months.
Some members of staff are particularly helpful when we visit for which we are very grateful.

I can not put into words how much my family and I appreciate all the help and care given to our mum on a daily basis, she always appears happy and relaxed when we visit her. When she was first admitted to St Mark's, we were all filled with dread as to how she would cope away from us all, but that fear changed to relief as we saw how she was treated. The staff from bottom to top all appeared to make it their main aim to make sure she quickly settled and became part of the
happy group of residents, nothing was too much trouble and the personal care she received was outstanding. the staff are excellent and always had time for us family members as well as their priority, the residents, completely recommended.

My mother is in the specialist dementia unit, where she has lived for 4.5 years. I am consistently impressed by the quality of nursing care, the attention to detail, the personal relationship the cares have with my mother and particularly the low turnover of staff which means that my mother's individual

I live locally to the home with my three children so my free time is mostly spent taking care of and spending time with them.

I was first introduced to care work by my Auntie who also worked at St Mark's. I fell in love with the job role and am still here six years later! I really enjoy the family atmosphere in the home between the staff and the residents. I live locally at home with my two daughters and adore cooking for them and listening to music.

I started working for BUPA six years ago. I previously worked as a teaching assistant, however after my Nan was diagnosed with dementia I wanted to learn how to support her and others in their daily lives. After doing some research I was so lucky this position became available and did not hesitate to join the team here at St Marks Care Home. I love making a difference in people's lives and adding happiness to their days. I live locally, and in my free time, I love spending time with my family, visiting London for theatre trips and camping.

I originally started as a carer for BUPA in 2016 and worked my way up in various roles to become the Financial Administrator. I love seeing our residents daily and making a difference in their lives. Due to my role, I also spend a lot of time with resident's friends and family which I massively enjoy. Outside of work, I am kept busy looking after my young son!

I've been a part of the BUPA team for two years now and have held my current position for 6 months. I love my role at BUPA and have found a real passion for making the home run look the best it possibly can, whilst keeping things safe for staff and residents.
