St Mark’s, rated ‘outstanding’ in March 2019, is a purpose-built home welcoming adults in need of nursing, residential, dementia or palliative care. The home also offers short stays for those who are looking for a little respite or convalescence care.

The home is split into four areas, made up of three nursing floors and a dedicated dementia area which is pleasant and modern, each with dining rooms and lounges.

A secure garden ensures that residents can make the most of good weather, too.

Residents are welcome to relax in any part of the home and can enjoy a little pampering in the hair salon, catch up with family over a drink in the bar or read a book in one of the quiet lounges.

The activity rooms are where residents can get creative, and there is a reminiscence room for rediscovering memories. There is a good-sized garden for anyone who wants to take a stroll and an enclosed sensory garden which is great for residents living with dementia.

Meals are made using fresh ingredients and residents can choose to eat in privacy or in dining rooms that overlook the gardens. Mid-morning hot drinks and homemade cake is also available.

Residents’ voices are woven into everything the home does, thanks to the resident and relative committee.

Residents can still do existing hobbies here and are welcome to suggest something different to try, as a group or on their own. Many activities are organised for mental and physical stimulation, including musical afternoons, arts and crafts and bingo. Movie afternoons are popular and there is a mobile library.

The staff at the Ascot Ward are always very helpful and mum is very happy being with them. Also, the reception staff are always very helpful and courteous. St Mark's is always clean and mum is always well presented when I see her.

Everyone of the staff was polite, kind and professional. The facilities and cleanliness were outstanding with every attention to detail. The quality of the food was five stars, both in the choices and quality. The medical was also exceptional and delivered with such understanding and professionalism.
The gardens were lovely to sit in to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. I was really impressed that, even my bed was extended to take my long body! Would I recommend St Mark's - 100 per cent!

In the time my wide has been at St Mark's, I have experienced nothing but kind, friendly and helpful management and staff. My wife is settled, calm and never distressed. Help is always on hand. Her room and clothes are kept clean and tidy. Food and drink provided is excellent. My wife is entertained
well with fun activities such as art, music, books and exercise. Hairdressing and nails are also on-site. I am very happy my wife is at St Mark's and would not want her anywhere else.

Both my parents were residents of St Mark's for nearly 3-years, until their deaths in early 2021, and I honestly could not have asked for better care for them. The staff are very caring and attentive and became friends to me and family to my parents. I honestly could not have asked for anything better

I visit my friend, who has lived in the home for the past year, and St Marks has been outstanding in how they have handled the Covid-19 pandemic and making sure residents and safe within the home. We always visited our friend, and he always seems happy and bright. They look well looked after, and they
enjoy the food. The staff are always polite and present, and we always get regular updates. The home looks clean, and we feel our friend is very happy there. They have even said they are happy there.

My great grandmother is well looked after and very happy at St Mark's; she only ever has nice things to say about her care and the staff. It was the best decision my family made moving her there. They meet all of her needs and keep the family informed of any changes to her health. I have been unable
to visit but keep in touch via regular video calls, and my great grandmother always looks happy.

My Dad was transferred here from a hospice at the beginning of December 2020 for end of life palliative care. At the time we were overjoyed that he was offered a bed at a Bupa ran home, but, we were left extremely underwhelmed by the experience.
- Care Assistants are over-worked. My Dad was actually
being showered whilst he was on the toilet.
- Poor internal procedures, in particular, during the initial care plan meeting where they missed asking my Dad about his wishes should his health deteriorate.
- Lack of empathy and responsibility from the Care Home Manager and some of her staff (it took them five days to send condolences when my Dad passed!)
- We raised a complaint and did receive an apology from the Care Home Manager over the mistakes which were made, but it was a very stressful time made much harder by their behaviour.
If anybody would need any information, I’m happy to answer any questions and/or share evidence of our experience.

St Marks Care Home in Maidenhead has 4 residential units; 2 for general residents, 1 for dementia suffers and 1 for Alzheimer’s suffers. Both my mother-in-law (Alzheimer’s suffer) and father-in-law (dementia with early Alzheimer’s) became residents in 2017 until their deaths in early 2021, and the care
they both received was excellent, without fault. Watching someone with Alzheimer’s and dementia is horrendous, and the units for these illnesses could not have been better, the staff respected my in-laws, were patient and very caring. The care home always had events and activities for the residents, and family were always invited to a lot of them. We were always kept informed of their well-being and any issues. There is absolutely nothing negative I could say about St Marks Care Home in Maidenhead, and would 100% recommend them to anyone requiring short term respite stay, general residential stay or specialised residential stay for Alzheimer’s or dementia. Thank you to all the dedicated staff.

Unfortunately, my grandmother was only with you for a short amount of time, but during her stay, I felt very happy with her care.
Due to current restrictions, I felt the staff were very supportive and went out of their way to help us connect and communicate with her.

My mum was only a resident during the lockdown period from October 16th 2020, so my views are a little limited as I never got a chance to enter the home. However, I was able to see her and wave daily through the window, and Mum always seemed well cared for, always clean and tidy.
All staff members
and management were helpful, friendly and professional at all times. The manager and the unit managers worked wonders, always keeping me up to date with regular phone calls.
My mum did have a few issues during her time at St Mark's requiring to be transferred to the dementia unit, but we were always contacted to be advised, and each issue was dealt with to my satisfaction, and the transition to the dementia unit was treated with respect and dignity she deserved. Unfortunately, Mum passed away two weeks ago, and I would like to thank all staff and management for the care they gave to my lovely little mum during her stay.

It's a strange time to be writing a review for a care home (March 2021), when Government Covid regulations have prevented normal visiting for a year. The team at St Mark's have worked so hard to look after the residents and keep families connected. I've had regular newsletters, and they are always available
for a phone call for personal updates. A 'visiting pod' was built within days to allow for indoor visits through a window, as per regulations.


The care is excellent, compassionate and honest - I'm thankful my mother is at St Mark's. I'm looking forward to when I can visit again, and I know I will be welcomed by all the staff too. In normal times, they enjoy having the residents' families around.

I am very pleased with the way the staff have looked after my father since lockdown. Although we are unable to visit regularly, I trust this home with no reservations. He has been resident for over 5 years now and my inlaws, who were previously resident, were also cared for by all staff (not just clinical
staff) to a very high standard. I have no hesitation in recommending this nursing home for anyone who is looking for similar care. The only slight issue is BUPA's attitude to visiting is "cannot do" rather than adopting an enabling approach.

My mother came to St Mark's BUPA Care Home, Maidenhead in February 2019.
She had been on palliative care in hospital. She was bed-bound, with dementia and could not do anything for herself. We thought she would never get out of bed again.
In the last six months being at St Mark's, my mother is now
getting out of bed, going to the dining room to eat, often feeding herself and now using a frame to walk a few steps, she also joins in with a lot of the activities they have there. This has happened with the love and care the staff have given to her.
St Mark's is an excellent nursing home.
I highly recommend it.

I absolutely love meeting people from all walks of life and doing whatever I can to make residents feel happy and safe. I live locally with my husband and baby and love anything we do as a three, whether that be walking coffee and cake, or swimming.

I have worked for BUPA since 2018. I was interested in having a career change in the care sector when I applied for the role at St Mark's Care Home. I knew people already working within the care and really wanted to try it for myself, and I am still here! I live locally, so know Maidenhead really well, and spend my free time gardening, doing DIY or spending time with my four grandchildren.

I previously worked as a teaching assistant, however after my Nan was diagnosed with dementia I wanted to learn how to support her and others in their daily lives. After doing some research I was so lucky this position became available and did not hesitate to join the team here at St Marks Care Home. I love making a difference in people's lives and adding happiness to their days. I live locally, and in my free time, I love spending time with my family, visiting London for theatre trips and camping.
