  • St Mark's Care Home, Maidenhead
St Mark’s, rated ‘outstanding’ in March 2019, is a purpose-built home welcoming adults in need of nursing, residential, dementia or palliative care. The home also offers short stays for those who are looking for a little respite or convalescence care.

The home is split into four areas, made up of three nursing floors and a dedicated dementia area which is pleasant and modern, each with dining rooms and lounges.

A secure garden ensures that residents can make the most of good weather, too.

Residents are welcome to relax in any part of the home and can enjoy a little pampering in the hair salon, catch up with family over a drink in the bar or read a book in one of the quiet lounges.

The activity rooms are where residents can get creative, and there is a reminiscence room for rediscovering memories. There is a good-sized garden for anyone who wants to take a stroll and an enclosed sensory garden which is great for residents living with dementia.

Meals are made using fresh ingredients and residents can choose to eat in privacy or in dining rooms that overlook the gardens. Mid-morning hot drinks and homemade cake is also available.

Residents’ voices are woven into everything the home does, thanks to the resident and relative committee.

Residents can still do existing hobbies here and are welcome to suggest something different to try, as a group or on their own. Many activities are organised for mental and physical stimulation, including musical afternoons, arts and crafts and bingo. Movie afternoons are popular and there is a mobile library.

My grandma lives here and I cannot fault all the hard work the staff do. They go above and beyond to give the best care for my nanna. Due to her health and her safety, there was no other option than to move her into a home and I have absolutely no worries with my Nanna being there. Well done St Marks

There never seems to be enough staff, this means although the jobs so the patient are done, they never ever have an extra few moments to talk to them all as its rush in and rush out.

Such a lovely buzz about the place as soon as you walk in. All the staff (nursing, admin and catering) are helpful and friendly. Delighted that our dog is welcome, my aunt really enjoys making a fuss of her. Very happy with all aspects of care.

My father received the best care and always called the carers his angels. He had the best 10 months of his life. The care and consideration received from the care home from the management to the carers and all other staff. I had the best 10 months with my father.

My mother-in-law became a resident at St Mark's when her condition became untreatable. She had been a resident in the home for 6 weeks in 2017 following a fall. She was met on admission by friendly staff who greeted her like a friend. Throughout her stay, to the end of her life, she and her family were
treated with empathy, understanding, kindness and expertise of the highest standard. There is absolutely nothing we could fault.

Having viewed 6 other care homes and not really liking any of them, I went to have a look at St Mark's. I arrived unannounced so that I saw a true picture of the home. It was an absolute revelation. Activities being held, everyone happy and all the staff greeted me with a cheery hello. My mum is so
well looked after, I don't have to worry anymore. I'm so lucky to have found it.

Can't fault the care and everything the staff do they are so attentive and caring and do lots for the life mum has in the home. I wish all nursing homes were like this as we can visit mum knowing when we leave we have nothing to worry about. Only criticism, the rooms need updating or revamped.

Care and attention for my father are excellent. We travel between 2-3 hours each way and appreciate the tea trolley as the machine is often out of service. This is very minor compared with the far more important issue of my fathers care.

Every time I go and see my mother in law, she is always happy. The staff are always happy and helpful to Mum in law and my wife and I, letting us know how she is and notifying if anything is wrong.
They are very good with putting on entertainment and all sorts to help them mix and keep fit as much
as they can. Mum enjoys her food, and also likes the respect of the staff in letting her alone in her room or joining in with the activities when she wants.
Mum likes the caring and friendly way the staff treat her.
Mother in law has settled in well due to all the staff.

The staff have been great in helping Mum to settle in, encouraging her to join in all activities, which are very varied.
The families are also made very welcome, we are also kept informed of any medical issues.
The activities and entertainment are extremely good, with lots of encouragement from staff
to all join in, no matter what their abilities are.
Everybody is friendly and all show respect to residents.

I come here every day. I like the fact that I can come in any time and be welcomed.

My friend was admitted to St Mark's mid-April after a prolonged hospital stay and has settled extremely well in spite of the fact that she has been recently bereaved.
She is eating/sleeping well and is attending various activities.

Due to my role, I also spend a lot of time with resident's friends and family which I massively enjoy. Outside of work, I am kept busy looking after my young son!

I absolutely love talking to the residents daily and getting to know more about their backgrounds and families. I live just around the corner from home and spend most of my time with my young boys. When they're not keeping me busy I love to travel and read.

I've been a part of the BUPA team for two years now and have held my current position for 6 months. I love my role at BUPA and have found a real passion for making the home run look the best it possibly can, whilst keeping things safe for staff and residents. I have recently become a dad to a beautiful baby girl and spend my free time living life to the fullest with my wife and baby. I'm a local to Maidenhead and love getting out in the area for good food and enjoying motorsports with friends.
