  • St Mark's Care Home, Maidenhead
St Mark’s, rated ‘outstanding’ in March 2019, is a purpose-built home welcoming adults in need of nursing, residential, dementia or palliative care. The home also offers short stays for those who are looking for a little respite or convalescence care.

The home is split into four areas, made up of three nursing floors and a dedicated dementia area which is pleasant and modern, each with dining rooms and lounges.

A secure garden ensures that residents can make the most of good weather, too.

Residents are welcome to relax in any part of the home and can enjoy a little pampering in the hair salon, catch up with family over a drink in the bar or read a book in one of the quiet lounges.

The activity rooms are where residents can get creative, and there is a reminiscence room for rediscovering memories. There is a good-sized garden for anyone who wants to take a stroll and an enclosed sensory garden which is great for residents living with dementia.

Meals are made using fresh ingredients and residents can choose to eat in privacy or in dining rooms that overlook the gardens. Mid-morning hot drinks and homemade cake is also available.

Residents’ voices are woven into everything the home does, thanks to the resident and relative committee.

Residents can still do existing hobbies here and are welcome to suggest something different to try, as a group or on their own. Many activities are organised for mental and physical stimulation, including musical afternoons, arts and crafts and bingo. Movie afternoons are popular and there is a mobile library.

The food is lacking in seasoning and some meals are deserved as tasteless. Salads leave a lot to be desired as mainly bland lettuce leaves are given. Rocket, beetroot, radishes, celery, peppers would make it more enjoyable. The staff are a credit to the home and provide excellent care.

The management and admin staff at St Mark's are consistently excellent. They are readily available for discussion and offer sound advice. This strong ethos extends to the nursing staff, care assistants, receptionists, maintenance and catering facility, and contributes to a warm and caring environment.
Personally, I feel this approach not only benefits the residents, but is very reassuring for families who can genuinely feel their loved ones are safe and getting well cared for. St Mark's is a place that is well run, and this can only be achieved by the dedication of the staff.

I cannot think of anywhere better than St Mark's for my mother to be cared for. She deserves the best and that is what she gets. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Mothering Sunday tea was a fantastic example: happy, fun, friendly and fabulous tea. Well done to the team and thank you.

St Marks care home is excellent. My mother is a permanent resident. She receives outstanding care delivered with understanding and compassion. All staff at the home are superb, from the management to the catering staff, the nurses to the activity co-ordinators. My mother is treated with respect and

From my initial phone enquiry, visit and now dad becoming a permanent resident, everybody has been very professional but especially caring and reassuring. The nursing home staff are outstanding and you can only create an atmosphere like that by having a great team environment, which then makes for a

From the first contact with St Marks Care Home, the service has been excellent, staff are very professional and very welcoming. The manager is just awesome, all our questions and concerns were managed very well. Everything has been explained. We see the manager around the home engaging both with her
team and residents which is great to see. We're going home to New Zealand at the end of January 2018 and we're really happy leaving our family member in the care of St Marks Care Home, the manager and her team.

Dad has been a resident of St Mark's Care Home for eight months now, on the Windsor Unit, and we are so pleased with the care and attention he receives there. The nursing staff and assistants are so patient and kind, nothing is too much trouble and they are always smiling! We visit often and we are

My mother's needs are attended to, be they medical or otherwise. Despite being in a wheelchair she is regularly included in meals and activities outside of her room, giving her the social interaction that she needs.

My dad stayed at St Mark's while we were on holiday for 2 weeks respite.
He really enjoyed his stay, he was treated with dignity and respect and he managed to continue with his own routine.
Staff were available whenever he needed them as well as allowing him to remain independent where possible.
The
food was really good and staff were kind and friendly.

As next of kin to a resident, I visit this home many times over the last months. I cannot stress too highly the excellent care he received. Everyone, cleaners, tea ladies, nurses etc. Were so helpful and friendly. I must mention the nursing sister on Henley Floor, that a lovely girl.
If anyone is
looking for a home for a loved one, look no further. This one ticks all the boxes and then some!

The staff made me very welcome.

My parents were both nearly 94 when they moved into the care home in 2014. My mother needed to be in the dementia unit and although my father's needs arose from physical frailty, the staff responded to the distress they experienced and cared wonderfully for them both together in the dementia wing until
my father died 1 and a half years later. My mother continues to receive excellent care, with the staff enabling her to go most weeks to the church that is very nearby and to go on outings which she enjoys when possible. I always received a warm welcome from the staff when I visit and I have real peace of mind about my mother's care, especially as I can be confident of being informed promptly if she falls or needs medication.

I have never stayed din a care home before and I was very impressed with the respect and dignity showed to me. All the staff, without exception, have been good to me and I will tell often about this experience. The cleanliness is extremely good and the food was varied each day and was of a high standard.
The meals were very tasty and were served hot where necessary. I go home feeling so much better and rested. Thank you to all.

Our mother who had Alzheimer's was a resident of St Marks Nursing Home and was on the Windsor Unit, the dementia ward for 18 months. We cannot thank the staff enough for the kindness, compassion and dignity they showed to our darling mum right up until she sadly passed away in January 2017. This was
shown by all staff from management, carers, housekeeping and maintenance staff. A big thank you to them all.

Due to my role, I also spend a lot of time with resident's friends and family which I massively enjoy. Outside of work, I am kept busy looking after my young son!

I absolutely love talking to the residents daily and getting to know more about their backgrounds and families. I live just around the corner from home and spend most of my time with my young boys. When they're not keeping me busy I love to travel and read.

I've been a part of the BUPA team for two years now and have held my current position for 6 months. I love my role at BUPA and have found a real passion for making the home run look the best it possibly can, whilst keeping things safe for staff and residents. I have recently become a dad to a beautiful baby girl and spend my free time living life to the fullest with my wife and baby. I'm a local to Maidenhead and love getting out in the area for good food and enjoying motorsports with friends.
