Glebelands Care Home in Wokingham is one of the most impressive homes for older people in the county of Berkshire. The care home provides highest quality residential care and nursing care in a beautiful setting.

A stunning Grade II listed building set within its own beautiful and expansive grounds, the home not only delivers exceptional residential and nursing care to its residents, it also provides an exceptional quality of life and sense of well-being.

My father was a resident at Glebelands for four years. During this time, my father was cared for by professional and caring staff. The activities staff ensured my father (blind) was included in all activities, both internal and external. My father became poorly in November 2022 and passed away. The
care he received was exceptional. The staff ensured he was not left alone at any time at the end of his life. We cannot express our thanks enough. Thank you Glebelands you are exceptional.

My dear friend was in Glebelands from 2020 to 2022. My impression overall was that the staff are very caring and do all they can to make a resident's stay as enjoyable as possible. They were always helpful to me if I made a request and during the pandemic, it was reassuring to know that they did everything
they could to ensure the safety of the residents. My only criticism would be that it wasn't made totally clear to my friend when she moved to Glebelands, that she would have to be in isolation for two weeks as she had come from a hospital during the pandemic.

The staff take a real interest in my mother and clearly care about her. She is cared for and treated with compassion and respect as an independent adult despite her dementia and frailness. Also, despite being mainly bedridden, she has excellent care to avoid bedsores etc. and is given the patience to
enjoy eating.

Mum stayed at Glebelands for a period of respite during June 2022. The level of care is wonderful. All members of the staff are fantastic. They are so caring and friendly, not only with Mum but with the family as well. The food is freshly cooked and very nutritious and varied. In terms of cleanliness,
Glebelands is spotlessly clean throughout. It was a great experience. Thank you to all of you at Glebelands.

The dedication and care the staff provide are outstanding. It's comforting to see the same staff when visiting, as this is beneficial to the residents. All the staff do their utmost to make life in the care home environment as enjoyable as possible. Should one have any concerns or questions, these are

My Dad has been at Glebelands for the last 8 weeks since being released from hospital. His care and nursing needs are significant and frequent. We have been delighted by the care and compassion shown by so many staff which has greatly reassured him that he is in the right place for the last few weeks
or months of his life. Nothing has been too much trouble and the team have worked hard to liaise with other medical professionals to manage his needs and keep him where he wants to be - which is at Glebelands!

I really feel the care at the home has gone significantly downhill. When my Grandma first went to Glebelands about five years ago we were really happy with the care she received. However, in the last two and a half years I’d describe their attitude as neglectful at best.
We noticed that she was becoming
increasingly forgetful and asked staff to refer her for a memory assessment. Fast forward to Jan 2022 and this had still not been done. In the meantime, my Grandma’s memory had deteriorated to the point that hospital staff were shocked she was without a diagnosis in Feb. We have since had her assessed and found she does not know the date, who the prime minister is, or the year and is not competent to make decisions regarding her care. How did trained care staff miss this? Now she is ineligible for certain treatments due to the severity of her illness.

Seems to be well run but there seems to be a bit of a problem with handover communication between staff in that there is sometimes a delay in actioning requests for medication, which my father needs. Overall, the staff are very caring, so I think this is a systems problem, which could perhaps be improved
- perhaps writing in a handover diary?

We appreciate your comments on medication, and we are reliant on the response times from the GP and delivering pharmacy service in relation to medication, and we are sorry if the pharmacy service is slower than expected. The staff seem very caring but very busy. The home is very clean and well maintained. After some initial difficulties, my mother seems happy there and is looked after well. There have been some issues with overly spiced food, and problems with missing laundry, which hasn't been addressed promptly, but
overall, I think my mother is safe and well cared for.

We recognise that some people do not enjoy spicy foods, while others do like them, and so we try to offer both options. In addition, if anyone doesn’t not fancy what is on the menu, our Chef is always happy to provide an alternative. The moment Mother excitedly arrived at Glebelands Care Home she was home. Mother's family grew over-night; her friendships blossomed and her diary was eventful. The Glebelands team are the loveliest people you'll ever meet. Their loving care and dedication of Mother was exceptional at all times. Mother's
independence in the earlier years to the seamless transition to full nursing care at the end of Mother's life, the Glebelands team were professional, dedicated and exemplary. Mother loved Glebeland's Summer Parties, the trips out to lovely venues in the 007 minibus, the in-house entertainments of every variety, the elegance of the magnificent building and her exquisite bedroom. Family and friends loved visiting Mother and were always made to feel welcome. The nursing, administration and care teams know that Mother's family are considering Glebelands for themselves one day! To ALL of the Glebeland's staff that cared for Mother... you know who you are, thank you with all my heart.

Mother joined Glebelands for respite care in the winter of 2016 and the Glebeland's staff welcomed her with open arms. She thus began a wonderful 5-year journey with them. In Mother's words, she had the most beautiful room in the residence. She had a top room with windows, this was important because
as a lifelong ornithologist and wildlife artist, nature was vital to her sense of well-being. She also had a window seat in the gorgeous dining room and attended weekly events which kept her life rich and full. The residence has extremely professional management and staff and we have always been certain of Mother’s happiness and safety. Sadly, in recent months, Mother’s health deteriorated as old age caught up with her. Her daily carers were supportive. In closing, we could not recommend Glebelands more highly. As her daughter, I have always been confident that she was loved and cared for.

My husband was a resident for just one month before he died. He was very weak when he arrived at Glebelands, he was reassured and was made comfortable immediately and received excellent nursing care until the end of his life. I was kept up to date with the changing situation, which due to covid-19,
made things more difficult for residents and relatives. He was treated with respect and dignity, which I very much appreciated.

My husband was admitted to Glebelands in March after being given weeks to live after a diagnosis of brain cancer. We were made to feel welcome (pre Covid). Despite my husband having already mostly lost his ability to speak, the staff made every effort to get to know him as a person and us as a family.
We even had a "wedding ceremony" so he could see our daughter get married. When Covid closed the home, we were devastated, but the staff took excellent care of my husband as he deteriorated. Everyone who looked after him was so caring and made sure we were kept updated as he declined. He passed away peacefully five months later; we were all with him at the end, playing his favourite music. The kindness and compassion of everyone on duty that day were truly commendable.
We are very grateful for the care my husband received in his last months. The enforced separation was very hard as we knew that he didn't have long but we understood the reasons for it. The manager and the team did an amazing job given the circumstances.

My sister was in Glebelands Nursing Home for 10 days of palliation care at the end of her life. She was very poorly, and we (her family) were happy to find full-time nursing care for her with daily visits by the district nurse (and supplemented by the Sue Ryder PCN when needed). I can't speak too highly
of our experience; peace and quiet, some of her things around her and good food when she could eat. We (family and friends) could visit at any time and were made welcome and looked after, cups of tea and occasional meals. Such kindness brings tears to my eyes as I write. I couldn't wish for a better end.

All our staff strive to ensure the individuality and privacy of residents in which their care, well-being, and comfort are of the utmost importance. Staff are understanding of the ever-changing needs of our residents and encourage everyone to remain individual within a warm and caring atmosphere. My team and I are always on hand for a natter and impromptu joke and laugh!
