A lovely warm, friendly home - the staff are extremely kind and thoughtful with a 'can do' attitude. We were always welcome - and so much encouragement given to be part of the 'family' My mother was very happy there - she loved her carers and completely trusted them. They were wonderful.

I am very happy with the care that my relation receives at Lord Harris Court. My relation since being at Lord Harris (coming up to 2 years now) has settled in very well, has put on weight, has made a point of knowing all the names of the staff, which I think they appreciate that. My relation has joined
in all the activities and chosen the ones that they like. I find the staff very friendly and very helpful, they are always at the end of the phone if I need to speak to any of the staff (unfortunately I am not local to Lord Harris Court). I would highly recommend Lord Harris Court.

I am a Paramedic and well acquainted with all care homes and nursing homes in the area and chose Lord Harris Court for my mother when it was obvious she would need full time nursing care. It was always the best home I visited during the course of my shifts with residents encouraged to socialise and
keep active.
It is, without doubt, a fantastic place and I can't fault the care my mother receives. I am kept up to date on all matters of care and when I visit I will normally be offered a hot drink and a snack. The staff are very friendly and attentive and nothing seems to be too much trouble.
My mother had a medical emergency in September and when I arrived everything was in hand. As a paramedic, I don't want to be having to treat close relatives and in this instance, the staff were sorting everything. They were careful, thorough and respectful and answered all my questions.
An excellent home that gives me peace of mind in what would otherwise be a stressful time.

I have found the home Lord Harris Court to be friendly, helpful and caring. Staff put themselves out to be cheerful and helpful. In the recent past, I've needed help with the TV connection and with fixing a bookcase, both helped with that day. There is a friendly atmosphere with neighbouring residents
and staff.

Everyone has been very helpful and the care staff engage with the resident. Whilst the building is dated, it is light and airy.

My father moved into Lord Harris Court early July! but so far have found it clean and well run. All the staff we have come into contact with have been friendly, helpful and kind. The entrance hall with reception and seating areas give a hotel feel and are ideal for when visiting. The activities seem
varies and despite visual and hearing difficulties my father is starting to join in. The food provided can be of variable standard.

My parents became residents of Lord Harris Court in 2005 and settled happily in the home. Following the death of my mother in 2008, my father continued to reside in the home and was always extremely satisfied with his care, as well as the facilities provided by the home. In July he developed cardiac
failure and the staff were quick to get him to the hospital care that he needed. Sadly his condition was extremely serious and he passed peacefully in hospital on July 28th. My brother and I both live in North America and we were with him during his final illness. Following his passing, we had to take care of the possessions in his room and make arrangements for his funeral. The staff members in the home were fantastic, comforting us, helping with his paperwork and organising a memorial service for him in the chapel. During this time we had the pleasure of experiencing the care that Dad had enjoyed for many years as a resident. We can’t speak highly enough of the interaction we had with the staff who were wonderful.

My mum had a short respite stay at Lord Harris Court. We were very happy with the care she received and her room was lovely with views overlooking the rear garden.

It was our lucky day the day we viewed this home for our mum over six years ago now.
The home has a lovely feel - alive - always activities going on, visitors etc.
The 'friends of Lord Harris' are very active and supportive with lots of fundraising and treats for residents - especially at Christmas,
Easter and the regular summer Strawberry Fair for example. The standard of care is excellent.

Since the new manager came, everything has been changed (sorry to say but it changed into a bad way).
Most of the time they are short of staff.
Meal times have been changed and a few of the residents are not happy with that.

Reply from Kristin Mewald, Digital Marketing & Communications Officer at Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh Court

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about Lord Harris Court. We really appreciate your rating of ‘good’ care and support but we are sorry to hear that you were not happy with some areas of service at the Home.

Putting our residents first is our top priority, so we will always ensure there are adequate staffing levels 24 hours a day and we recently increased our staffing levels for night shifts. During periods of staff sickness, we will always look to cover the shift with another member of staff internally or externally, to maintain a high level of care and service.

We recently reviewed mealtimes to suit residents’ daily plans and following this, obtained feedback from residents which have been largely positive. If your friend does not find the new mealtimes suitable for them, please do speak with the Home Management Team and we will be happy to organise alternative arrangements that suits them better.

I can't fault the care and attention given to my mum when she was a resident. The staff were always friendly and caring and nothing was too much trouble for them.
Also the care and kindness they showed me and my family in her last few days was amazing. Had so many hugs. We really appreciated it and
I can't thank them enough.

My Father passed his final Years at Lord Harris Court in comfort and dignity.
The standard of care was very high and I was aware that there were continual reviews of my Father's needs.
Towards the end, as his needs changed more rapidly the home responded promptly to the changing circumstances and
I was never left uninformed or concerned about the care he was receiving.

As relatives, we only get one chance at choosing the right care for our loved ones. As I look back at the process at Lord Harris Court and feel very comfortable with the choice.

My father is being treated well and with dignity. The staff are excellent. I am very happy that my father, who is 101, is safe and secure here as I live in Canada.

My friend has been here since May 2017. I cannot fault the care given to my friend. Her husband passed away in 2016 after 63 years of marriage, this meant that my friend needed people around her who understand and care. She has been given a lot of support and love from all the staff. Her overall health
and well-being has improved since being here. My friend never faults the home, she only praises how good it is.

My mother suffered a stroke in 2009 and after a short period of hospitalisation, she moved to the Lord Harris Court Care Home. She spent 5 years in the Residential Wing and a further 3 years in the nursing wing before she recently passed away. It is always sad when a loved one can no longer live in
their own home but I feel we were extremely fortunate to secure a place in 2009 for Mum at Lord Harris Court.
Every aspect of Lord Harris Court is excellent with well trained and caring staff and pro-active management. There is a lot of varied press these days regarding care of the elderly but in my opinion, Lord Harris Court is outstanding in providing care for the elderly.

Lord Harris Court staff responded to a fall outside the home and came to stand by my father for hours while the ambulance came, outside their shift and duty, going above and beyond what is expected of them.
This demonstrates the care and heartfelt dedication of the staff, especially on Thames and Kennet
and especially one of the level 3 carers and one of the shift leaders.
The home manager also has transformed the home into an efficient home which responds to concerns, not just playing lip service.

Lord Harris Court treat me very well and with respect and a smile and do not talk down to me and are patient with my condition.
I am truly happy here.
The food could improve but that is being resolved in the capable hands of the home manager.
More staff to take residents to the hospital would be
great, but it is not a core remit of the home and would put costs up too high for the residents to hire more driving staff.
The staff work more hours that they have to due to their care and dedication.
With more full-time staff, quality of service is at its highest level!
Well done!

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.114)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.114) out of 10 for Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.847 for Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh Court is calculated as follows: ( (63 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 72 Ratings = 4.847

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.267 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh Court is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 45 registered maximum number of service users is 9. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 9 = 0.667

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
