Excellent care home. Have taken care of my 95-year-old mother, a victim of stroke, very well indeed. Recently my mother suffered some considerable pain and the staff treated her very carefully and compassionately.

Mom was received into Lakeside Care Home on the 8th of December 2023 and given a very nice room overlooking the lake. She sadly passed away on the 31st of December. In the short time that Mom resided at Lakeside, she was trusted with kindness, respect and attention to detail. As her daughter, it was
very reassuring to know that Mom was being properly looked after. My husband and I were particularly struck by the home's friendly atmosphere and the staff's caring attitude. In conclusion, we trust that Lakeside Care Home's high standards will be maintained under its new ownership.

Wonderful long-term staff here. Thoughtful and patient with their care services. Mum was here almost 4 years, 95 to 99 years of age and she blossomed in the care and attention given. Homely atmosphere in beautiful location. So pleased we chose this facility for Mum's last few years.

Mum lived at Lakeside for three and a half years before her death a few weeks ago on her 99th birthday.
The staff and management have been magnificent during that time, especially during the last few months when she was bedbound. She developed strong bonds with many members of staff. The family were
always confident she was safe, warm, very well-fed and comfortable.

Absolutely agree with all that the previous reviewer said - such kindness, compassion, professionalism and with great humour too within a beautiful setting - to borrow my mum’s phrase “Look at my view”. Mum settled in straight away and spent the last 9 months of her life here (Dad had previously been
in for respite). They cared for her brilliantly - and us too - becoming part of her family. Mum wasn’t straightforward as she had various medical problems including type 1 diabetes. We are so very grateful. Thank you, to the manager and all your amazing staff! We do miss visiting.

My father arrived at Lakeside Care Home in early January and very quickly settled in thanks to all the staff at Lakeside. Enjoying meals in the dining room with other residents and a few of the activities! Unfortunately, my father's health deteriorated and had to spend a lot of time in his room! The
staff treated my father with kindness, dignity, compassion and care. Lakeside Care home is set on the edge of a beautiful lake with an abundance of wildlife to view from the gardens or balcony. The food choices are varied and tasty and the interior is clean and tastefully decorated! All of the staff are supportive caring and professional but also interact with the residents in a fun and friendly way.

Reply from Helen Jeffrey, Registered manager at Lakeside Watermead Care Home

It was a real pleasure to look after your father, he was a lovely gentleman and it was sad that he was only here for such a short while. I will be sure to pass this on to the staff who cared for him and thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review.

It is such a relief that Mum has settled into Lakeside Care Centre so well. After 70 years of being in her own home, she had to face the prospect of leaving quite suddenly. Naturally, this was a very emotional time. However, the carers and staff at Lakeside have been wonderful. She is treated with
care and dignity at all times. Mum has a lovely room overlooking the lake and being an early riser, she is still able to watch the sun come up which she always did at home. Nature and wildlife are important to her, so watching all the activity on the lake gives her joy. She enjoys the food and partakes in some of the activities even though she is a quiet person. Thank you to everyone at Lakeside for making this difficult journey so much easier for Mum.

Reply from Helen Jeffrey, Registered manager at Lakeside Watermead Care Home

We really do understand how difficult coming in to a care home is and it is lovely to know that your mum is getting so much pleasure from her view and that this has helped her to settle in so well. Thank you also for the kind comments about the staff, we certainly do have a great team here.

My mother came to Lakeside about a year ago, having started to suffer with old age related memory problems and mobility. Having suffered a fall and a broken hip the decision had to be made about which care home, luckily we were allocated Lakeside.
The home is in a beautiful setting, and the staff could
not be more caring and courteous, from the cleaning staff up to the managers, all of them have worked hard in difficult situations to make my mother welcome and as at home as possible. The whole building is always clean and smells lovely, with a smiling receptionist to greet you.
I would not hesitate to recommend Lakeside to anyone considering a Care Home.

My mother has lived at Lakeside for eight and a half years. Throughout that time she has been happy and well looked after. The caring conscientious staff know her well and are always kind and supportive. Everyone is friendly and approachable. Nurses are always available to offer medical advice. The
staff are dedicated and professional and work hard as a team to deliver the best possible caring environment. I have always been confident that Mum has received the best possible care. As well as looking after Mum, the lovely Lakeside staff have looked after me too. Mothe-in-law now lives there too.

My uncle has just spent the last couple of weeks of his life being cared for here. The home was warm and welcoming. The staff were not only very caring with my uncle but very supportive with our family. Nothing was ever too much trouble. He celebrated his birthday in the home and we were able to have
tea and cakes for him in the lounge with the home making him a cake. I was most impressed.

Dad has been at Lakeside since November 2017 when it was decided that he could no longer live at home. My brother and I are very pleased and happy with the way he is being cared and looked after. The staff are always helpful and friendly and he is treated with the utmost dignity and courtesy.
Lakeside
try and encourage the residents to join in activities if they are able, in the lounge on a daily basis and the home does have much of a "family" feel to it as soon as you walk through the doors. The meals look good, nice and fresh and I have heard no complaints from dad so far.
The manager has a fantastic team supporting her and is very hands on herself.
Thank you team Lakeside!

What a wonderful team of dedicated carers working at Lakeside. My mother had dementia and in the latter stages, so unable to perform any self-care. The staff at Lakeside were superb, not only in their daily routines but also it was apparent how much they cared for Mum emotionally. I cannot thank them
enough. The Manager must also be commended in the way the care home is run, not only admin-wise but also in her obvious caring attitude. Thank you all so much.

Our mother was transferred from Stoke Mandeville Hospital to Lakeside in the middle of May 2018 after a sudden downturn in health. She received kindly and attentive end of life care at Lakeside, where she finally died. The staff were always very helpful and considerate and nothing was too much trouble
for them, whether it was answering our phone calls to inquire about our mother's situation and any other questions. Most importantly, their care for our Mother was excellent and they did all that they could to ensure that she was as comfortable as possible. Lakeside has this ethos that all patients are part of a family, and that included my mother, although unfortunately, she wasn't really totally aware of things. We are very appreciative of the care my Mother received and would have no hesitation in recommending the Lakeside Nursing Home to others. Thank you so much.

My Mother was very poorly when she arrived at Lakeside, she was treated very well and I could not fault the care she was given.
I spent most of the time she was there with her chatting with staff and other residents, I soon felt at home there myself. The residents had no complaints, the staff had
worked there for years, and seemed very happy. The food was exceptional, as I had a few meals given to me.
Her room was cleaned and the floor mopped every day. The whole place smelt fresh and clean, other homes I visited were not so nice smelling. If I need to go into a nursing home in my later life, I'll be going to Lakeside.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.699)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.699) out of 10 for Lakeside Watermead Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.861 for Lakeside Watermead Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (93 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 108 Ratings = 4.861

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.838 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Lakeside Watermead Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 48 registered maximum number of service users is 9.6. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.6 = 0.938

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
