Kents Hill is an established purpose-built care home offering elderly residential, nursing and dementia care. A professional team has furnished the Home to an exceptionally high standard, providing elegance and comfort.

The “home from home” feel at Kents Hill is created by the dedicated staff who have been selected not only for their professional ability but also for their commitment to truly making a difference for the people in their care.

Resident’s rooms are spacious and feature en suite facilities. The communal areas are at the centre of what makes Kents Hill a real community whether it be at mealtimes or when enjoying activities. There are no fixed visiting hours so friends and family can come and see residents at any time.

Activities and day trips are an integral part of the resident’s well being. The activities coordinators encourage and help residents continue with existing interests and also introduce new hobbies.

The minibus is used frequently to take residents on day trips near and a little further from the Home. The trips are very popular and recently, days out to Woburn Safari Park, Middleton Hall, Frosts Garden Centre, Stoke Goldington Small Gauge Railway and Linslade Canal have been greatly enjoyed.

The dining experience at Kents Hill boasts fine home cooking by a professional Chef who has created a menu alongside the residents to reflect the interests and tastes of all.

Respite care at Kents Hill is very popular and enables those wishing to experience what the Home has to offer before making a full commitment.

In October 2015, 15 brand new luxury suites opened along with a new lounge, library, salon and bistro all adding to the style and comfort the home offers and in 2018 a refurbishment of the communal areas and one side of the nursing suite took place.

My mum is a resident in the care home, she has some lovely carers, and there are a few who go well out of their way to look after her. A few small niggles from me are:- There used to be soft drinks available in the lounge, and for some reason that no longer happens. There is an assistant bell on the
wall, in the lounge, but as my mum is in a wheelchair if she needs assistance she cannot use it. I was told that there would always be a carer in the lounge, but this doesn’t happen at all. There just seems a shortage of staff, especially at the weekends. No one to man the phones or answer the door. But apart from that, I love the place and the staff. My mum is looked after well and that is all which matters.

Generally very good. Would like to see better attention to personal care sometimes (e.g. bathing) and the shutdown for Norovirus was very long. Staff are very helpful and dedicated; the home seems well-run and our interactions are very positive.

I was recommended Kents Hill Care Home, where my father was due to come. On my show round, I gained a great insight into the home. It felt like we were apart of the family, and we were devasted when he passed away. Being in the home, everyone was always friendly and welcoming. Residents always looked
happy, comfortable, and there was always a selection of activities being held. There was always a fresh home-cooked smell throughout.

My Mother has always been treated with dignity and respect during her slow and agonising decline into dementia. Many of the residents have had to leave lifelong friends in order to move to the home and so it’s essential that they feel comfortable and entertained. The staff do their best to keep the
residents amused and happy and are friendly and welcoming to visitors.

Mum-in-law came to the care home 24th Sept 18 and from day one she was made to feel extremely welcome.
Lovely room. Caring staff. She is joining in activities with other residents and eating well. My husband and I are very pleased at how quickly she has settled into her new home.

My aunt has been at Kents Hill for a couple of years now and I would just like to say a HUGE thank you to every single member of staff that help to care for her and the other residents. You are all truly angels sent from heaven. My aunt has severe dementia which manifests itself in anger and frustration.
She fights, screams, kicks and shouts and, more often than not, gives the wonderful carers a really really hard time. THANK YOU! You know who you are. It can't be easy and all too often people focus on the negative acts within dementia care homes but having been given a gentle hug and words of reassurance from one of your carers when I left my aunt's room in tears on Saturday following a short visit I just wanted to take some time out to focus on the positive. You are all doing an amazing job; honestly, I can't thank you enough.

It was a bit of a shock for mum to leave her three bedroom house and to end up in a room with no kitchen but it didn't take long to get used to her cups of tea being brought in for her by the lovely caring staff. It took her a while to settle as she started off on the second floor but she preferred
it on the ground floor where she could find her way around and end up in the lounge where she spent most of her days laughing and giggling with the other residents. The activities provided were just brilliant and kept mum amused.
I feel mum was able to be independent when she could and if she was poorly she was looked after by the nursing team and carers. The GP and ambulances were called if and when needed and I was updated when necessary. Sadly mum has passed away now, she was well looked after and didn't want to go into hospital, she didn't make it back to the home and I know she was sad about that. Mum was treated with dignity at all times even when her dementia days got the better of her.

My previously independent Mother has recently become too frail to live by herself although mentally she is very alert. She has been in Kents Hill Nursing Home for the past 6 weeks. My Mother would be the first to complain but she has nothing but praise for the way she has been treated and listened
to. All her needs are being addressed by the friendly helpful Team of Carers. She compares her stay to a 5-star hotel! The food is of an extremely high standard and freshly cooked. The activities coordinator provides daily activities which she can join in. The relief to know my Mother is being looked after and to such a high standard has made such a difference to our family. Thank you all so much. I would highly recommend Kents Hill.

Mum at 91 had her first experience of a care home for 2 weeks whilst my sister took holiday.
She was dreading it, but very happy to report she not only survived but was extremely impressed with everything, from facilities to food and particularly staff who were exceptional, looking after her every
need and always with a smile.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.178)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.178) out of 10 for Kents Hill Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.678 for Kents Hill Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (89 Excellents x 5) + (21 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 118 Ratings = 4.678

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Kents Hill Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 75 registered maximum number of service users is 15. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 15 = 0.6

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
