Abberton Manor is an established, well-respected nursing home, located in a listed Queen Anne Manor house, set in acres of formal lawns and woodland, enjoying unspoiled views over the Roman River Valley. The home, which is gold standard End of Life commended, provides professional nursing care within a genuine family setting, with long-serving staff having been trained to significantly high levels. The home is part of a small, privately owned group of six, high-quality homes.

Professionals offer long-term care, holiday or respite care to enable family carers to take a break, and postoperative or convalescent care for clients recovering from illness or operation. The home is at the forefront of the MyLife project, where care emphasis is on the quality of life and ensuring that individual wishes and needs are at the forefront of everything. The team believes that its activities programme is varied and comprehensive, aimed at showing that a care home is a positive choice to be made. Families and friends are encouraged to visit at any time of day and be an active part of the home and its daily life.

The property benefits from a choice of spacious and elegant lounges and a large hall, and also has a dining room for those who wish to dine in company.

This is our home. We have been well looked after. Our family join us for trips out to the reservoir and a fish and chips dinner.

My Nan was in the care Abberton Manor from October to March. The staff were very kind and welcoming whenever we came to visit Nan. Towards the end of Nan's life, she became very poorly. Abberton Manor did everything they could to make Nan comfortable and supported our family through this difficult time.
The care and attention was amazing, I can't thank Abberton and its staff enough for taking care of our Nan for us when we could no longer give the care that my Nan needed.

Abberton Manor is like a home from home for older folk, food good home cooked meals, staff very friendly, activity team are always planning something different every day. My nan was only here for four months, she passed away on Wednesday 21st March, the nursing staff were 5* with their end of life care
towards nan and us. I can't thank you all enough.

Longer-serving members of staff making sure new staff to Abberton Manor maintain standards. January has been wet, dull and under threat from visitors colds and viruses. Despite this, the family visitors are unaware of the pressure.
Atmosphere is relaxed and homely. Emphasis is placed on residents
welfare, activities including bus trips and 'ladder to the moon.'
Dependency of residents is constantly increasing yet all are treated as highly intelligent individuals.

My mum was a resident at Abberton Manor for a very short while, three weeks. During this time she was treated with the utmost respect and dignity and also with care and compassion.
She was encouraged to be her own person and was able to join in activities and social events. Every member of staff treated
my mum and the rest of our family as if we were one of their own family.
Nothing was ever too much trouble.
My mum died on 12th July 2017 and during her last days she was pain-free, comfortable and her nursing needs were met totally.
Thanks so much you are all amazing!!

This nursing home is a breath of fresh air. The staff care for a rather difficult old gentleman and treat him with dignity and good humour.
Visitors are made most welcome and are encouraged to join in the activities where possible.
There are few rules, dog visitors are welcome and it is by far the
most pleasant care home I have come across.
Help and financial advice have been forthcoming and I have no hesitation in recommending Abberton Manor highly.

My mother lived at Abberton Manor for the last eight weeks of her life. The care she received was excellent and responded to her changing needs as her health declined. She was consistently treated with respect, kindness and sensitivity to her individual needs. Abberton Manor is a beautiful building
in lovely grounds. It has a very welcoming and homely atmosphere created by the lovely staff team who always find time to chat with both residents and visitors. The food is good and the activities programme is varied and imaginative, taking into account the preferences of residents. It was a huge relief for me and my family to know that mum was being so well looked after in the final weeks of her life. The nursing staff always kept me informed about what was happening and I felt well supported and involved in mum's care at all times. I would have no hesitation in recommending Abberton Manor to anyone looking for a nursing home in the Colchester area.

Mum has been with Abberton for a very short time but in that short time, the care and kindness shown has been second to none. Staff are always around to help or offer assistance in any way. I was so anxious about mum being in any nursing home but Abberton has alleviated my fear and made me feel ok about
her being there. Christmas day was held at Abberton in a private room (there was 10 of us) and it was absolutely excellent. The food was wonderful and every effort was made to make sure we had a great time (and we did).

The resident to whom I am referring I have known since 1968. He is the godfather of our eldest child. To my dismay he showed signs of the onset of dementia some 10 years ago. His wife of almost 50 years cared for him until it was not possible to continue. He is now in the tender and sensitive care of
the staff at Abberton Manor. I go and see him about every two weeks. On every occasion I find the staff bright, positive and professional dealing with my long time friend.

Pleased with standards of care from day 1. Mum has been resident for 2 years and each problem has been dealt with as it comes from my mother. Staff friendly and approachable not defencing when confronted with difficult issues. Home very well maintained. Menu's are varied, healthy with fresh veg and
fruit. Good social activities to stimulate the residents. Have outside entertainment in and residents who can and wish to are taken out in the homes minibus. Very happy to include residents family in care, given particularly in socialising and outings. Remain involved in care planning, as are the residents when able.
