Alexandra House is situated in lovely grounds and next to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow. This spacious home provides care for older people, older people with dementia and nursing care. All the bedrooms and lounges are beautifully furnished with wall-mounted flat screen televisions. The en-suites are fitted with light sensors to turn on the lights to aid those cared for and also contribute towards a greener environment.

The home has an area specifically designed for relaxation with soft fibre optic lights, oils to promote a sense of well being and peaceful pictures. A dedicated area for dementia care is designed to enable those cared for to maintain independence in a safe environment.

It was our Mum's 90th birthday and we wanted to organise a family celebration and an event for the other residents too. When we contacted the home, the service and assistance we received was exceptional.
A singer was booked so that all the residents could join in.
We also booked the Life Cafe for
a family celebration on Mum's actual birthday.
Staff also arranged catering for all our guests.
We live some distance from the care home so we were delighted when we arrived to find that the Life Cafe had been decorated for the party.
We all felt that staff had really gone the extra mile to make sure that Mum had an enjoyable birthday.
Family members who hadn't visited the home before commented on the facilities and service provided by the home. Everyone loved the Life Cafe and thought that every care home should have this facility.
They also commented on the other accommodation provided by the home and how well Mum was being cared for.
A huge thank you to everyone for making Mum's special birthday so enjoyable.

My dad has been at Alexandra House for nearly six months and during this time I have found the quality of care he has received to be of a very good standard. The staff all seem to be very caring, patient and kind in doing a job that at times must be very difficult but at times would seem that there
are too few and this obviously put pressure on every aspect of the job.

The care my mother received at Alexandra House was exceptional. The room was well equipped a pleasant environment for visitors and extremely well serviced. The staff were considerate, kind, patient and caring they worked so hard to care for mum and support her family too. I cannot praise them enough.
The last eighteen months have been difficult for us as a family but Alexandra House made the experience of mums illness and passing as easy as possible for us.

The staff are friendly. They do the best they can in the circumstances. Evening meals are ok, some very good, some average. White bread used at breakfast and lunch. Not good for nutrition and can cause constipation. More care homes should use the "pinch me" care plan (which is a mnemonic to remember
points of best elderly care). There are not enough stimulation and activities although on a limited budget this is understandable, although not good for residents. There is a faint smell of urine from some of the carpeted rooms. All things being, though, the staff work hard and try their best.

Words cannot express our gratitude to you all for taking such good care of my mum over the last 4 years. She was a truly special lady to us. Although in her later life when she couldn't communicate, she always had a smile and a giggle! It was extremely hard for us to see her go into a care home but
we didn't have a choice in the end and it was a weight off our shoulders to know that we were lucky enough to get a place for her in Alexandra House. To all those that were in Room 11 with me in that last week, you know who you are.

I visit my mum most days at various times and there is always a polite and warm atmosphere. Mum is well looked after and the care assistants are very aware of her individual needs. I find all the staff from housekeeping to management very approachable and helpful.

The care my mum received from all staff at Alexandra House was exceptional. The staff treated her with dignity and compassion at all times. The staff also treated all family with respect and were always welcoming. The manager was always available if we needed to discuss anything. My mum passed away
in May and her last two years were made comfortable and safe due to the care and support she received.

Hello, My name is Mirela Taban and I am the Home Manager here at Alexandra House. I have a background in nursing in my home country and I have worked within the care sector as a nurse for over ten years now. I've had the pleasure of being a part of the Alexandra House family for 7 years, working in various roles around the Home. I am very passionate about my role and the residents are at the heart of all I do. I am always available to chat, my door is always open, and I look forward to welcoming you and our community friends to Alexandra House very soon!

I have been in the role for almost 10 years; February 2025 will mark my tenth year with Runwood Homes. I really have enjoyed my time to date with Alexandra House. We have a great team here, and it’s a pleasure to work with them; also, the management team is very supportive. I like pretty much all aspects of the role; it is a very demanding and rewarding role.


In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my partner and children. I also enjoy sports, mainly football and tennis; I am a bit of a Tottenham Hotspur supporter.

My name is Martin. I grew up in Slovakia and spent 4 years studying to be a chef before moving to the UK. I came to the UK for a holiday and decided I liked it here and wasn’t going home! I took a role in retail to gain confidence in the English language before joining a renowned care provider as a kitchen assistant. Within 3 months I had advanced to chef and then very quickly to Head Chef.  It was a whole new experience learning about English cuisine and our quirky likes and dislikes; baking was a completely new experience, as I had not experienced this at home. My passion for my chosen career kept me in this role for 6 years, working across three different sites. I took the opportunity to progress to Regional Chef which involved menu planning, audits, recruitment, training, and writing policies, a role I continued in for 4 years.


I happened to see an advert for Head Chef at Alexandra House, which is very local to me and decided it was time to go for a change. I joined Alexandra House 4 months ago and have seen joining Runwood as a great career move. I love the friendliness of the team and the great management of Alexandra House, where I feel a highly valued member of the team.


I feel passionately that food is of the utmost importance to our residents and should be a high-quality, enriching experience at every mealtime for all. I aim to accommodate individual tastes, and if there is a particular food that a resident favours that is not on the menu, I will ensure we make it available for them. It is important for me to meet new residents when they arrive to discuss their preferences and any allergies alongside any needs for a modified diet.

I began my journey at Alexandra House as a care assistant in 2012 and have worked my way up through various roles to become Deputy Manager.


I truly enjoy collaborating with our team to deliver the highest quality, person-centred care to all our residents. Every aspect of my role brings me joy, as it allows me to make a meaningful difference in their lives.


In my spare time, I am an active member of my church, where I also sing in the choir.
