  • Admission Criteria
    • Our admission policy ensures that every prospective resident receives a thorough and personalised pre-admission assessment to determine whether we can meet their needs safely and competently. We involve the individual, their family, and any relevant professionals in this process, aiming to provide clear, accessible information so they can make an informed choice about moving into the care home. Key steps in our process: Initial Enquiry: We log all enquiries, provide an information pack, and invite the prospective resident to visit the home. Pre-Admission Assessment: We assess physical, psychological, and social needs, ensuring any necessary equipment or specialist care can be arranged before admission. Capacity and Consent: We follow the Mental Capacity Act, ensuring the individual consents to the process or that decisions are made in their best interests if needed. Financial and Legal Clarity: Funding arrangements (private, social care, or NHS-funded) are confirmed upfront, and legal agreements are put in place before admission. On Admission: The resident is welcomed, introduced to staff, and supported to settle in. Key risk assessments (such as falls and evacuation plans) are completed within 12 hours, and personalised care plans are finalised within the first week. Ongoing Review: A formal review is held within 28 days to ensure the placement is suitable and to gather feedback on the resident’s experience. Our approach is person-centred, aiming to make the transition into the home as smooth, informed, and supportive as possible. We also conduct regular audits to maintain high standards and ensure all legal and regulatory requirements are met.

  • Visiting
  • The team value the importance of visitors in the lives of residents and fully support their right to maintain contact with family, friends, and loved ones. The visitors policy ensures that visits are welcomed, safe, and respectful of each resident’s personal wishes.

    Key points of the policy:

Open Visiting: Visitors are welcome at any time, unless a resident personally requests limited visits or there is an outbreak of infection, in which case the home will follow health and safety guidance.

Resident Choice: Each resident can decide who they want to see, and this choice will be recorded in their care plan. If a resident lacks the capacity to make this decision, the Mental Capacity Act will guide the process to ensure visits still support their best interests.

Visitor Registration: All visitors must sign in and out at reception and follow any health and safety procedures in place.

Privacy and Respect: Residents have the right to refuse visitors, and this will always be respected. Visitors will not be allowed into other residents’ rooms without express permission.

Food and Personal Items: Any food or personal items brought in for a resident must be declared to staff to ensure safety and dietary needs are considered.

Infection Control: Visitors who feel unwell, especially with symptoms of transmissible infections (such as flu, COVID-19, or norovirus), are asked to postpone their visit until they are well.

Conflict and Safeguarding: If a visitor’s behaviour poses a risk to residents, staff, or the home environment, management will intervene. In serious cases, visits may be restricted or conditions imposed, with advice from the Safeguarding Team if necessary.

Outbreak Management: In the event of a public health incident, the home will follow local and national guidance, offering alternatives like video calls or window visits if needed.

Feedback and Complaints: Visitors are encouraged to provide feedback and raise any concerns, which will be handled through the Complaints, Suggestions and Compliments Policy.

Our goal is to make every visit a positive, safe, and supportive experience for all.

Badgers is a place where special people look after and care for the most treasured and special people in your life as if they are family members. They are treated with respect, love and dignity. My loved one has complex needs and has been living there for four years and in this time everyone has been
giving her quality of life and making her life matter. The saying goes it takes a while village to raise a child, but this case it takes a people from all villages, towns, cities and countries of the world to love the most precious member of your family.

On visiting my son, very often unannounced, he always appears well cared for and content.
Although lacking speech, he seems to have a rapport with his carers and gets plenty of positive attention.
He is always comfortably attired and clean.
He has been a resident of Badgers since it was opened and
the current provider is of a high standard. We are kept informed of any problems. During a recent hospitalisation, Badgers staff were exemplary providing support for him and us, his parents. Facilities and food are of a high standard and my son is encouraged in many ways, including freedom to roam if he wants.
Staff are always welcoming when we visit. The administration of medication is very well organised in particular. Knowing that there is a fully qualified nurse on every shift is a comfort.

Badgers Lodge is a caring home, my sister is well looked after. The home is kept warm and clean. Residents are well-fed and are offered plenty to drink throughout the day. The management are approachable and deal with any niggles. There are meetings to find out what is going on and they ask our opinions,
so improvements can be made, if necessary. They are looking to provide outside entertainment for residents to keep things fresh for everyone. All in all, a good service. As this is a small home, staff are well acquainted with all residents, they know when something is wrong or when they have to call for assistance. Very happy with my sister's care.

Some carers are excellent - but not all.
The new manager is doing an amazing job trying to turn things around. There is very little interaction with most of the residents.
I do believe they are understaffed and the most willing carers are pushed to the limit.

I am immensely impressed with Badgers Care Home during the time I have spent here. The entrance is secure and staff check who you are before entering. The home is clean, tidy and well-kept throughout, with personalised belongings for each resident in bedrooms to make it feel homely. Staff are friendly
and kind, interacting with each patient according to their needs and treating residents like extended family. Facilities include a large lounge, activities room, sensory room and large garden to enable all residents to be catered for holistically and therapeutically. There is no lack of equipment to enable comfortable care for residents, with wheelchairs, ceiling hoists and slings, electric adjustable beds and chairs for each individual. The food is homemade by the cooks with each individual dietary needs catered for, including soft and cultural diet needs. The care I have seen provided is safe, patient-centred and carried out in a timely and effective way.

During my time at Badgers Lodge Care Home, I have received a lot of support from the staff and manager here. This home has a lot of facilities to provide for the service users, such as the sensory room, activity room and communal areas for all the residents. The home is very comfortable and has a lovely
atmosphere to it. Activities are held for all the service users each day and they are treated with a high quality of care from staff. It is a safe and secure home for residents who live here with the use of a sign-in and out book and doors that remain locked.

The home has improved enormously in recent months. The home has been redecorated in some areas and has new flooring in the lounge and corridor.
The staff are very helpful and friendly making sure my sister is well cared for.
They also make sure I am greeted by name and offered a drink within minutes
of arriving.
A special bed was required for my sister and this was ordered and received in one week.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.620)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.620) out of 10 for Badgers is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.720 for Badgers is calculated as follows: ( (79 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 100 Ratings = 4.72

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Badgers is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 10 registered maximum number of service users is 2, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
