My Mother lived at Little Holland Hall for the last 2 years of her life following a severe stroke. The staff always treated Mum with such kindness, respect, love and care and the standard of care was exceptional. Mum had a lovely room, light airy and clean with a lovely view (of the lake) and we were
encouraged to make it very homely with Mum's pictures on the wall. The close proximity of the sea to Little Holland Hall was also a huge bonus as we were able to push Mum's wheelchair along by the seafront which she really enjoyed.

As a family, we were so pleased that we chose Little Holland Hall and send a huge thank you to all the staff for their fantastic care.

Very warm and welcoming staff. As a residential facility and it's distance from my mother's acquaintances, I felt that the facility was not best suited to my mother's need.
Decor of the room was poor and view depressing for any long term stay.

My sister and I visited our brother in Little Holland Hall yesterday for the first time. As soon as I entered the front door I could feel the homely, welcoming atmosphere. My brother's room is very homely and he is obviously relaxed and at ease with his situation. He can now swallow his food, attributed
to the caring, encouragement of staff. Not knowing what my Sister in Law pays for his care, I cannot really put an excellent yet for value for money. I look forward to visiting again soon. In a word.....impressive!

My sister was a resident of Little Holland Hall for the last year of her life. When admitted from the hospital for end of life care, her anticipated span was a maximum of 3 months. Thanks to the excellent care of Little Holland Hall she improved to be able to live a further year. We were always made
to feel welcome and my sister, although bedridden, was always clean, comfortable and happy with her care.
The last months of my sister's care was helped by the fantastic staff. We were kept informed of her condition and able to phone at any time for updates.
Little Holland Hall has a home from home feel and laughter is heard from various directions, this made visiting a pleasure.
All the staff were efficient and we would like to say a huge thank you.

The staff are friendly and lovely. There is one staff member that is amazing with my friend, he loves her. Some of the food that is served when I have been didn’t look very nice but staff are always happy to change it if he doesn’t like it.

We are also delighted to see that you find our services, care and facilities excellent and that you would be likely to recommend the home.
We are sorry to hear that you feel that some of the food did not always look very attractive. My husband was here for 2 days before needing to return to hospital. During this very short time his care at Little Holland Hall was everything we would have wanted for him from a nursing home.
The staff were caring, friendly as were the management. Facilities were lovely and the meals and his safety
were the same.
Sadly he was unable to return here. Thank you all.

My mother has been a resident for 6 weeks. She is adjusting well, with encouragement from staff to participate. We are waiting for a financial assessment from Social Services which will confirm costs. Mum is well fed, well cared for in a very safe environment. An abundance of cheerful staff who are
knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Management is always available with sage advice. A good "home from home" for my mother.

Lack of regular showering after five weeks stay.

Reply from Amy Wilson, AD at Little Holland Hall

Thank you for your recent feedback regarding Little Holland Hall. We are delighted to see that you found many aspects of our service excellent, including treating residents with dignity and our care support. It is also very pleasing to know that you would be extremely likely to recommend our service to others.

Thank you also for your comments regarding the showering facilities at the home.

As part of our continual program of service improvement at Little Holland Hall, we have recently had a shower room installed. Unfortunately, due to a delay in the build, there was a period of time when residents were not able to use the facility and this included the time your partner was with us.

Whilst we understand that your partner prefers a shower, every opportunity is given for residents to have a bath, ensuring that high levels of personal hygiene will always be maintained.

At Little Holland Hall we have an open door policy, and you are always welcome to visit and take a look at the new facilities that are now available.

We are always grateful for feedback, positive or negative, in order that we can continually work to improve our service. Once again, thank you for taking the time to pass on your comments.

Having for the last four months regularly visited the care home, I have been very satisfied with the standard of care my friend has received. The rooms are clean and pleasant and facilities good. I have witnessed genuine caring concern from all the staff from management down. Highly recommended.

My family's experience with this care facility was very reassuring. After discovering that my father's disease C J D was terminal, I was relieved that his needs were met with genuine care and dignity. This has bee none of the saddest moments in my life but the load was lightened by the exemplary professionalism
by the wonderful staff during his final days.

My Mum has been a resident at this home for some time and I feel totally confident and have absolutely no concerns about the quality and care she receives. I know they truly have her best interests at heart and treat her with the care and dignity I would hope and she deserves.
The management and staff
are approachable, caring and friendly, and I feel lucky to have found such a place for my gentle, sweet Mum.

Overall good experience, Room clean and tidy. Excellent, caring staff. Food good although not always as hot as I would have liked. Possibly could do with better segregation from noisy neighbours.

Reply from Amy Wilson, AD at Little Holland Hall

Thank you for your overall positive comments and scores for the care and support we provide at Little Holland Hall; we are grateful for your constructive feedback. We are sorry to hear that the food offering did not meet your expectations. The equipment we serve the meals from should ensure both the plates and the meal itself are of an adequate temperature. We will of course review this with the team and make improvements where possible. With regards to the noise, we understand that the home manager offered you a different room during your stay to try and resolve this; however should you wish to discuss any of these points further or have any questions on a future stay then please do not hesitate to speak to a member of staff or the home manager. We are glad that you had a good experience at Little Holland Hall and appreciate all of your comments.

The care and love given to my aunt was above and beyond the call of duty. The medical backup supported the care given by the daycare staff.
The facilities are of a very high standard. Our whole family cannot speak highly enough of Little Holland Hall. My aunt always felt safe and well cared for. Thank
you, Little Holland Hall.

Care home suggestions by the hospice provided us with Little Holland Hall. It was the first and only home we visited. It proved to be absolutely perfect. From the initial assessment of dad and subsequent visit and tour of the home, it just felt perfect. Indeed there could not have been a more caring,
peaceful environment for our dad to spend his final days.
We will be forever grateful to all the staff at Little Holland Hall for their help during his stay and for all their support at the end and beyond. My sister and I wish you well for the future and continue to provide the highest level of care we both witnessed.

My mother was a resident for 3 years following a stroke; unable to walk or eat, she continued to smile and enjoy living. This is partly due to the love and concern that was always shown to her. We have nothing but admiration for all the staff, the management team, the nurses, the carers, the cleaners,
the laundry lady, the handyman all of whom were warm friendly and understanding. At the end, her death in the home was peaceful and there was no sense of having to hurry to empty the room. All of this has made her passing easier. I shall miss my regular visits to the home where I was always made welcome. Some would say that the rooms themselves are a bit like hospital rooms, not luxurious but need to remember that this is a nursing home where there is always expert nursing care available 24 hours a day, not merely a residential home. I would say that the quality of the nursing and the care is far more important. I will always remember my mother's last years there with gratitude.

My wife was only in Little Holland Hall for eight months during which time she was extremely well cared for. They have a lovely garden which we used from time to time in the summer months. Our family were kept updated with her needs and requirements. During my wife's last few days the staff were so
kind to myself and my family and went out of their way to help and support us. My wife was treated with kindness and her dignity was always at the top of their list when caring for her.

My mother was discharged from hospital into palliative end of life care in January, to Little Holland Hall. At that time her life expectancy was 4-6 weeks and she was refusing solid or liquid nutrients. After some weeks of further deterioration, her condition stabilised and she started to accept liquid
nutrients and even small amounts of solid food. Unfortunately, her dementia has advanced but she remains stable and comfortable (although fading). I attribute her continued existence to the wonderful care and kindness she has received since her arrival at Little Holland Hall and the wonderful carers who have made her feel very comfortable and dignified at all times. I cannot thank Little Holland Hall enough for extending my mother's time with us.

Current Review Score: 8.7 (8.717)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.7 (8.717) out of 10 for Little Holland Hall is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.9 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.854 for Little Holland Hall is calculated as follows: ( (35 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 41 Ratings = 4.854

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.863 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Little Holland Hall is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 41 registered maximum number of service users is 8.2. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.2 = 0.488

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
