Our mum came to Parklands for 10 weeks after a bad fall downstairs at home.
I was very anxious leaving her to start with but my opinion soon changed. All the staff on the floor were very supportive to us and mostly amazing to our mum. Mum was always happy, comfortable, clean and pain was managed right
up until she passed away. Thank you for looking after us too at the end with plenty of drinks and care.

My dad was treated with respect, dignity and kindness by all staff.
They did everything to make him comfortable and were very kind and helpful to me and my family. They did their absolute best for my dad. They were always available for questions on his care and nothing was too much trouble for my dad
(or us).

My father came to Parklands after 3 weeks in the hospital. He had been ill from a fall and was very poorly, muddled and anxious. The staff here were so kind and caring towards my dad. They tended to his every need and ensured he was safe and comfortable at all times. They treated him with respect and
helped him retain his dignity. They also shared thoughtfulness, care and understanding towards myself and family. I cannot thank Parklands staff enough.

Our mum was discharged from Hospital into Parklands for end-of-life care.
We have been blown away by the friendliness and helpfulness of all of the staff from managers down to the cleaners.
Nothing is too much trouble and everybody we have met has been only too happy to help.
They are caring for
our mum like she was their own mum, what more can you ask?
Mum has hourly checks day and night and everything is logged. Her food and drink intake also monitored along with regular turning in her bed.
This is a special profession and it takes special people to make it work.
Well, all of those people are here.
You will not be disappointed.

My mum was in the nursing home for a short time but while she was there she received great care, every member of staff was helpful and friendly, we could not have asked for a better place to end her days. Thank you.

As a family we had a preconception of care and we couldn't have been further from the truth. On first impressions perhaps the home did seem a little dated but it was clean and everyone was friendly. My nan stayed at Parklands for 3/4 months and I was shocked at how good the care was. The love and care
my nan received, and I chose the word love carefully, was exceptional. Treated with dignity throughout her experience, everyone from the carers, nurses, reception/office staff, and even maintenance staff were utterly brilliant. As we entered the end-of-life care I was brought to tears a number of times by just how amazingly they looked after Nan. I cannot recommend Parklands enough, fantastic care from even better human beings.

We cannot thank Parklands enough for the loving care given to Mum in the few short weeks she was there. The love and support given to us all was second to none and so greatly appreciated through a very difficult time.
All the staff were amazing and their kindness will never be forgotten.

My mother came in from hospital. All staff were supportive and caring. She was checked on regularly and was kept clean. The staff encouraged her to eat and drink in a very caring way.

Until recently, my brother was in the care of Parklands Nursing Home. The service and standard of care provided were second to none. My brother could be difficult at times but he was still treated with care and like a decent, honest human being for which my family and I would like to say a big thank
you to the staff at Parklands.

My mother was a resident of Parklands from 7th December 2021 until she passed away 2nd December 2022. The kindness loving care shown to my mother was wonderful from nurses and carers who looked after her. I cannot thank you enough. Would highly recommend.

After a few falls and gradually becoming less independent in the last few months, especially due to her loss of sight, our Mum had carers four times a day. We soon realized she needed more all-around care. One carer recommended Parklands, so we took our Mum there on 29th July 2022. From the first day,
we felt we'd made the right decision - the whole staff were competent, well-organized, very caring, helpful and cheerful. There was no sense of doom and gloom there. The care our mum received was wonderful, everything was clean and comfortable, and there was always someone nearby to check on her, and talk to her. My brother was able to visit her every few days, and I was able to phone from abroad, while one of the staff held the phone so we could have a little chat! When I came over to England to visit her in September, I was able to see her every day, and the manager made sure of that, for which I am grateful. Sadly Mum died on 10th November 2022. Thanks so much to all the kind staff for your care.

My mam had to go into Parklands in 2018, after having five falls in her flat, and leaving her very ill and the early stages of Dementia.
She was double incontinent, could not walk, in a very poor state. The staff at Parklands helped her build the confidence to use a walking frame, she was happy there,
the staff went above and beyond to make her feel at home. They kept me informed of everything that was going on with Mam.
Sadly in May this year (2022) she became ill, they nursed her and looked after her so well, trying to coax her to eat and drink when she was refusing.
On her final day, the staff and nurses could not have given me and my mam any more support, they were truly amazing, and made it so personal and were incredibly caring towards Mam and me.
I would not hesitate to recommend Parklands to anyone. The staff and nurses are incredible, and I will never forget how well they looked after my mam and how much time they spent with her.

My father was a resident of Parklands from September 2021 until he passed away in April 2022.
The standard of care was very good.
The home is very clean and comfortable and there is a cheerful atmosphere - mainly due to to the amazing staff who are always eager to help and who clearly care very much
for the care home residents.
As a family we felt that the care we and, most importantly, my father received was excellent. He was always clean and comfortable and the staff obviously cared about him and his well-being.
At the end of his life, the communication and help we received was very good. The whole team were respectful and caring towards all of us.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Parklands.
Thanks to the manager, the ladies on Reception and all the staff.

Words don't describe how wonderful the care for my mother has been this past 18 months. All the staff have been exemplary in the treatment and care they have given. I would highly recommend Parklands Nursing Home to anyone needing high-quality care and if the time comes that my wife and I need care,
we would happily go to Parklands.

My dad has recently had a stay here. I can totally understand why this home is inadequate, needs improvement with CQC. Extremely poor communication between the home and resident's family, to the point where they didn't have the decency to tell us they can no longer look after my dad, had to hear it
from another source. Management is very poor and extremely rude, promises things which she has no intentions of doing. My dad is a dementia patient and clearly, they are not suitably trained/experienced staff to deal with dementia patients, no understanding at all how dementia sufferer feels. Certain staff and management have a dreadful way of speaking about loved ones to their family, have no concept of how they feel when hearing things about their relatives. Dad never looked clean and no effort was ever made when I took Dad out. One day I had to change him out of his pyjamas and change incontinence wear as it was nearly midday, which no one had bothered doing before I arrived.

Reply from Joan Clark, Manager at Parklands Nursing Home

Unfortunately there are times when a persons' needs change and they can no longer be cared for in a particular setting, despite all efforts being made. We have a duty of care to all residents and staff to ensure their safety and wellbeing. We are sorry that you feel this way about the communication but the family were informed about all concerns relating to their father. The nursing staff are fully trained in dementia care but due to his high needs, we reiterate that we had to think about our other residents and staff.

I felt that after my wife died at the home on the 4 April I needed to get this issue out in the open. In the first few days, I visited my wife when she was seated in the communal area, looking quite distraught. Seated nearby was another female patient who for no apparent reason was making nasty comments
to her. I was completely shocked to the extent I asked for my wife to be moved away to a side area where I could speak to her in private without this patient continuing her nasty comments. Afterwards, I spoke to a senior nurse at the home and explained what had occurred. She knew who I was talking about, mentioned her name and told me not to be too concerned as she often acted like this and asked me to take no notice. Now I am aware that there are many patients in these homes suffering from all sorts of illnesses but this particular category of patients really ought to be segregated to stop this sort of upsetting situation to other patients.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.483)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.483) out of 10 for Parklands Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.942 for Parklands Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (81 Excellents x 5) + (5 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 86 Ratings = 4.942

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.541 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Parklands Nursing Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 54 registered maximum number of service users is 10.8. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 10.8 = 0.741

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
