Allenbrook is always a pleasant place to visit when visiting my mother; with a calm, happy atmosphere. The staff are genuinely caring, understanding and patient with the residents, who in turn, seem at home there.
I know that my mother is very pleased with the level of care she receives, being content,
settled and making steady progress.

The whole family are very happy with the care extended to our mother.

My twin sister had diabetes with 'hypos' so she had to go into care. She felt so well the first 2 years - all she wanted was to go home. Staff were extremely patient and kind and she finally settled in. She was very happy there, the food was varied and excellent and of course entertainment 2 or 3 times
a week.

My step-mother became a resident at Allenbrook Nursing Home in July 2016. I have nothing but praise for the care she has received ever since from the very friendly and caring staff and I feel confident that she is safe and well cared for.

She originally came to Allenbrook Nursing Home for end-of-life

care but she has been so well looked after, she has made remarkable improvements. She always looks clean and well fed and has actually put on weight since being in the home. The staff have put her own pictures, clock and a mirror on the wall which has made her room feel more homely for her. We are kept fully informed of her welfare by telephone or email when necessary and the online Relatives Gateway means we can log on and see her daily care at any time day or night. I understand from first-hand experience that it is a difficult decision to make when finding a good care home for a relative, but I can highly recommend Allenbrook for its excellent management and friendly, welcoming and caring staff.

We are very happy that Mum is so well taken care of in Allenbrook. We looked at several nursing homes but this was by far the best we visited. The staff and the environment are both friendly and relaxed but professional too. It's a hard decision to make but we're glad we chose Allenbrook.

My mother has now been at Allenbrook for a few months and she is very content. All the staff members know her by name and treat her with respect and courtesy, but also joke around and never fail to get a smile from her.
It is so good to know that she is well taken care of and she has all she needs
and more. She has a lovely, light room where there is even room for her pieces of her own furniture.
There are so many activities for her to choose from if she wants to participate in them, scrabble, quizzes and more.

Our Mother required 24-hour care following a severe stroke and a brain bleed. We were so pleased to find Allenbrook, a beautifully positioned medium sized care facility in the town local to our Mothers village. Immediately both she and we were made welcome and it was clear within a few days that the
quality of care was wonderful as our Mother became happier, more confident and once again began to feel secure. She now enjoys a full day surrounded by new and old friends, excellent caring staff and takes part in any activity she wants to, often spending the afternoons reading or watching the birds in the spacious landscaped grounds. She is content and is honestly enjoying her new life even though it was not the path she expected to follow. As a family, we also know she is getting the quality of care she needs and that she is safe and happy, and is always consulted on what she wants so that choices are hers. We would certainly recommend the home and staff, they do an incredible job!

My 90 year old Mum has enjoyed three periods of respite care at Allenbrook, which enabled my Dad to recharge his batteries and concentrate on himself. The consistency of care always impresses me and Mum recognises the staff, most of whom have worked there for a long time. They always give her a genuinely
warm welcome and make sure she is always spotless and very comfortable. When it was plain to see that Mum couldn't manage at home any longer and needed to come and live at Allenbrook, the transition was seamless and a lot of the worry had been taken away. Our family feel very confident that her needs are of the utmost importance to all the team.

My elderly cousin has settled in brilliantly and both her physical and mental condition have greatly improved. This, I believe, is due to the care and attention she is receiving at Allenbrook. They provide a warm, safe, professional and caring environment - she is having so much fun and we would recommend
Allenbrook to anybody.

My father went in for 2 weeks and at his request, he's been there 2 months already. Whilst he won't be there long term he is very happy there. They have been very accomodating. Nothing is too much trouble. The staff are lovely, very friendly and helpful. He'll be sad to leave. Being able to take his
dog there was a big plus for him.

My Mother was at Allenbrook for a period of ten weeks following a fall. I was very impressed with the care she received, especially when she was transferred directly from hospital and pain management was so important. This was managed very efficiently by the nursing staff, thus aiding her recovery.
My
mother has very little vision and at all times great care was taken by everyone to ensure she felt safe and became familiar with the environment.
Any requests made be me or other family members were dealt with promptly and efficiently and it was always possible to talk with members of staff when we visited.
All visitors were made to feel very welcome, even boisterous great grandchildren!
The food was excellent, with choice and variety.
I would strongly recommend Allenbrook to anyone looking for a caring, safe and friendly environment for their relative.
My mother says she will be happy to return to Allenbrook when she can no longer manage at home. A recommendation in itself.

My sister and brother-in-law have been at Allenbrook Nursing Home for almost a year. They have a double room together as they have never been apart in all of their 61 years of marriage. They are very happy there, they love the food and staff are very good to them. Excellent care home.

My mother resided here for 3 years, 9 months and would still be there but unfortunately due to her illness has had to move. During her stay, all staff have been supportive, kind and caring. The home has a very homely feel which is clean and tidy. There is also a very good selection of daytime activities.

My gran went into Allenbrook 3 1/2 years ago. The staff has been very supportive and caring towards her (this is in all areas carers/cleaners). The home is tidy and has a homely feel. The food is lovely and they have lovely menus. There is a good selection of daytime activities. The staff are friendly

The care provided for my father in his final year was outstanding. All members of staff (including manager, catering staff and ancillary workers) remained so caring and friendly, and made me feel we were all part of a large extended family.
In dad's final hours and afterwards, everyone was very professional
and caring - I would certainly recommend Allenbrook to anyone.

For a very busy home on the whole they cope really well. Occasionally more staff would be great to keep up with all the demands from the residents, going to the toilet ect as this is time consuming and two carers are needed, and I feel it's their right to go. We would all like a path onto the lawns
so we could wheel their wheelchairs out safely and it would be nice to have access to the garden for them. Also it would be lovely to have some transport of their own at Allenbrook.

My Aunt has now been in care for a number of years. The process of ageing inevitably indirectly involves such things as managing income, and lifestyle and with increasing years these activities become the remit of relatives. So when the every day life of a loved one is in the care of people that you
can trust and you know that they will always do their best for the people in their care its an immense relief.

I can honestly say that Allenbrook has helped make the transition into full term care as smooth as possible. I have nothing but praise for the management and staff.

A very understanding, flexible and relaxed atmosphere is also helpful.

My father made a decision he could no longer look after himself in June 2015, so subsequently moved to Allenbrook Nursing Home. He was extremely happy there and joined in with many activities and trips that were organised for the residents. Christmas was indeed good for him, but unfortunately his health
deteriorated after his 91st birthday in March 2016, and he passed away peacefully on 16 May. Every member of staff were like extended family to us, and we will always feel dad was loved and cared for just as he deserved.

My mother received excellent care at Allenbrook Home following her discharge from hospital last June. It was sad that she could no longer be looked after at home. However, we, as a family, had the utmost confidence in the care she received from the obviously highly qualified nursing staff but also all
the carers there. All were considerate of her needs and we were always consulted about matters concerning her care. They exuded warmth to all of us and were extremely friendly and welcoming. My father visited at least once a day, every day and was treated with extreme sensitivity as she declined. She was not able to take part in the activities so I cannot comment on that and she was paid for by the NHS so I cannot comment on value for money either. From what I could see the other residents enjoyed the things that were organised for them. I have no hesitation in recommending Allenbrook.

My Wife and I are most impressed by the friendliness and professionalism of all the Allenbrook staff. From the first point of contact to current day they understand the needs of my Mother and have unreservedly shown compassion and understanding during what is undoubtedly a difficult time of adjustment,
for not only her but also for the family.
There is no doubt their mission is to ensure their residents are happy and settled in their new environment. I have no hesitation in recommending Allenbrook to anyone who finds themselves experiencing such a traumatic change in life circumstance.

When putting my aunt into a care home I was full of apprehension. Allenbrook put all that to rest. They have been more than kind, helpful, considerate and more than any time caring for people who really need it.
My aunt puts it in one phrase "I have joined a small family community." This puts all my
worries to one side.

Current Review Score: 8.3 (8.316)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.3 (8.316) out of 10 for Allenbrook Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.958 for Allenbrook Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (23 Excellents x 5) + (1 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 24 Ratings = 4.958

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.358 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Allenbrook Nursing Home is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 43 registered maximum number of service users is 8.6. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.6 = 0.233

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
