Wessex Lodge is a purpose built care home with 40 single rooms, all with en-suite. The home provides high quality nursing care around the clock through its team of registered nurses. The majority of a person's care needs can be met at Wessex Lodge, from basic nursing through to end of life care.

The home offers a stimulating activity programme that caters to the residents' individual preferences, all religious and cultural needs can also be met at Wessex Lodge.

This homely accommodation is fitted with modern care technology and staffed by experienced professionals, combining skilled care with a service that suits personal interests, a range of activities and one-to-one sessions.

Up to 40 older people are welcome in total, with a friendly team of carers doing all they can to make sure individuals feel comfortable and respected.

The home promotes a very warm, friendly and relaxed environment providing a high level of care service. The staff are always polite and makes sure my mum's needs are met, seeking medical assistance when needed. We as the residents family have enjoyed events arranged by the home which gave us great memories
and a lot of fun.
The home is run by an excellent and approachable registered manager. I have had to put my views across sometimes and these have been acted upon to improve the experience of the care provided.

For six months, my mother was a resident of this home. Throughout her time there, she was treated with compassion and a level of care that I considered to be outstanding. The staff at the home, from most senior to most junior, really took the trouble to get to know her and in her last weeks of life,
took particular care to ensure her end of life was comfortable, calm and peaceful.
I commend the home on their outstanding level of care.

My mother has dementia and has been a resident in Wessex Lodge for two years now. It is a happy and welcoming place where the staff are kind and caring. As a daughter I feel that my mother is happy, well looked after and I am kept well informed.
There is a good program of activities with visits from
entertainers to encourage movement and singing.
The lounge is comfortable and homely and decorated with many of the crafts the residents have created.

The matron, deputy matron and nurses oversee the day to day running over the home which is very good. The carers see to our family needs and are also very good. The chef and his team of helpers are also very good. The domestic staff are also very good. The auxiliary staff are very professional. I have
always been very well cared for. The food has always been well done and a good variety. There are activities and days out.

The nursing home is comfortable, warm and well staffed. Standards are high as reflected in CQC's inspection this year. Each resident is cared for according to their needs. The meals are well planned and delicious with plenty of choices. Activities and outings are well planned as are the parties and
celebrations where families can come together.

My mother moved in on the 19th of September following a bleed on the brain. She has settled in find and is always dressed nicely. The staff I have encountered when visiting are always friendly and helpful.
Mum appears to be happy and comfortable in the home. Meals always smell delicious. The place
is warm and has a nice feel about it. Residents are always doing something to occupy themselves. Halloween was brilliant, all had their faces made up and staff were dressed up.

My father was admitted for end of life care in October 2016. All the staff, from cleaners and laundry workers right up to the Manager were committed and very caring. Nothing was too much trouble. I felt my father was in very good hands and feel lucky that this nursing home was on our doorstep.

Very friendly and welcoming nursing home. High standard of cleanliness with comfortable furnishing. Staff were very professional and caring. they looked after mum with compassion her needs were met all times. Staff informed the family immediately if there were any concerns with mums health. Visitors
of all ages were welcomed by all the staff. Would highly recommend this nursing home.

The staff at the nursing home are very good although the home is under resourced and rely on agency staff too much. The regular staff I cannot compliment enough, they are thoughtful and very helpful. The agency staff do not care and they give this impression. The general quality of the food is poor.
Residents pay enough so the food should be of much better quality and more variety. No consideration appears to be given to peoples diet requirements. The home needs a good overhaul to smarten it up.

On occasions, all homes have to resort to the use of agency staff to support their regular team, these occasions are kept to the absolute minimum and where it is unavoidable we ensure that we use reputable agencies that can provide us with well trained and experienced staff. We do provide a varied and nutritionally balanced diet that has been developed to meet the needs and preferences of the residents at the home, we would always respond to any concerns raised quickly and look to adapt our provision to an individual’s particular preferences and tastes, however if we are unaware of these concerns we cannot take any action.
We would always choose to address any issues that arise during a stay at the home immediately if they are raised with us, however we are very grateful to see that overall the reviewer would recommend Wessex Lodge Nursing Home to others for future stays.

My husband stayed for a week of respite care. Room was pleasant, a good size and clean. Everything he needed was at hand, staff were friendly and helpful and appeared to have attended well to his care needs. He is at high risk of falling and attention was paid to this risk and to falls during his stay.
Clothes all clean at the end of the week and next stay booked.

In my opinion and on my mother's behalf she has been treated in the best of care that I have seen over the 3 1/2 years that she has been there. The staff are well trained and treated my mum with the best of respect and still do. Like all homes they are understaffed sometimes, which is a lot to do with
funds, and all the paperwork which I know is all relevant, but does mean a lot less care for residents at various times during the day. Overall I would recommend the home to friends and family.

My experience of Wessex Lodge was very good indeed. The atmosphere was always happy which was credit to the staff. My wife was very satisfied with the food especially as she is very fussy about her food at home. My only negative comment would be the fact that her medication was not always delivered
correctly time wise. Having said that her regime is very complicated.
