Brendoncare Alton is a care home set in attractive, mature gardens. Its design enables the provision of high quality care within a welcoming and homely environment.

The care home provides nursing care, dedicated dementia care and end of life care for 80 people. Respite stays are also available, offering short breaks which are suitable for those recovering from an illness, a hospital stay or whilst regular carers take a break.

The varied menus provide healthy, wholesome, appetising food which is all freshly cooked on site. The catering team talks to the residents to ensure they are accommodating all their requirements. They are proud to hold a 5 star food hygiene rating with the Food Standards Agency (May 2023).

A full wellbeing and activities programme is provided to ensure residents stay active and continue to lead enriched lives.

Brendoncare's Care for Life ensures that once welcomed into the care home, a permanent resident will not be asked to leave other than in exceptional circumstances.

Not tested the food/drink and not aware of any activities so have left unrated. All the staff, carers and nurses were very caring and showed great patience with my mother, during the last six months of her life at the home. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble to anyone we talked to during our visits.

I simply cannot thank all the staff at this nursing home enough, from the moment my mother arrived there all the staff from staff in reception to all the wonderful carers in her section of the home were so friendly, caring and nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them. They all kept my mum in good
spirits and were always there for her. I cannot thank the staff enough and would recommend this home 100%.

When the time came to select a care home we wanted somewhere which was safe, clean and with caring staff who would respect and value dad. Brendoncare Alton has so far fulfilled all our expectations - and more. On our first visit, we were given plenty of opportunities to ask the many questions we had
and got a full tour of the home. One of the most impressive aspects of Brendoncare Alton is the genuine warmth of the staff who all stop to speak as you go around. Importantly, they all show respect for each other and operate in a very professional way as a team. When we visit dad we are always able to speak directly to the nurse on duty. Dad is very content with his situation and routinely praises the staff, all of whom know him. His room is clean and tidy and he is very happy with the food. He likes to take us around to meet people when we visit and regularly tells us how impressed he is with how quickly the staff attends to him if he needs something. We have made the right call.

Brendoncare Alton was recommended to me by a friend who also uses them for Respite breaks. At first, I was a little apprehensive as I had been using another provider for many years who had recently closed down. However, it didn't take long for me to realise that the facilities and care I was receiving
was far superior to my previous provider. The first thing that struck me was that there were no lingering odours anywhere and the whole place was spotlessly clean which is a testament to the housekeeping and care staff alike. Residents always looked well presented with their clothes ironed. For me personally, these things are of high importance as it helps maintain a sense of wellbeing and dignity. Many of the staff have been there a long time which again speaks volumes and they all worked well together as a team. I never felt rushed and they would always respond attentively to any request I had and nothing was too much trouble for any of them.

My 92-year-old father suffers from dementia and limited mobility and has been resident in a Brendon Care home since January 2021. My Mother and I are both extremely pleased with the care he receives there. Initially, my Mum was very reluctant to place him in a home but now, having seen the high standard
of care he is given, she sees that the decision was right for them both. During our visits, we have been highly impressed with all the staff and the way they deal with my Dad and with other, more difficult, residents. We really cannot speak highly enough of them or express sufficient gratitude for their dedication and professionalism. Even my Dad himself - never an easy man to please - speaks highly of the staff whenever we visit. The only thing he praises more than his carers is the food! Due to Covid, I can’t personally vouch for that yet but to please Dad it must be a chef standard or higher! And I can vouch that the cups of tea we get every visit are excellent!

My mother entered Brendoncare Alton in June 2021 having moved from a care home in Exeter. We were concerned about how the change would affect her and whether she would settle. However thanks to the care and kindness she received from all the staff she has settled in well. When I visit all are friendly
and helpful answering any questions I may have and informing me if any concerns arise. I would certainly recommend Brendoncare Alton if you are looking for care for a relative.

Given the exceptionally difficult circumstances due to Covid Brendoncare Alton went out of their way to retain communication, Zoom up and running in days and booked slots worked with professionalism. Updates continually from nursing staff, hospital admissions immediately arranged and kept informed.
Management is supportive of visiting arrangements at all times. The staff very kind and did everything possible to ensure mum remained safe. Area perhaps could be improved understanding of how ARMD (age-related macular degeneration) (dry and wet) impacts on vision.

The genuine care and respect for my Aunt really came through in the short time she was with you. Our Aunt passed away this week after a short stay in Alton. During those 3 and a half weeks, she received the most wonderful care. My Aunt was treated with respect and dignity at all times and the staff cared for us as well as her. From arranging the initial viewing right through to the day she passed
away Alton took the pressure off us as a family. Two members of staff dealt with the business administration and managed our Aunt’s transfer from out of the county. Taking that burden of dealing with social services was amazing and we could focus on my Aunts needs.
Right from the beginning, staff took an interest in our Aunt, who she was, her likes, dislikes and interests. They also managed her very complex care needs with experience and expertise and liaised with specialists as necessary. The communication with us was of a very high standard and we were kept up to date immediately with any changes. Nothing was too much trouble and this was consistent across every staff member. We will always be grateful.

Mum was extremely well looked after both before and during the pandemic. Above all, she appreciated how caring all the staff were, and the way they were always so welcoming to Dad, who visited daily and then phoned after this was no longer possible. They particularly enjoyed being able to have lunch
together each day, both within Selbourne House and in the lovely dining room. This was made possible by the help and support of the very caring staff, who made sure that they organised this for them. They were also very helpful and were instrumental in allowing us to have regular family zoom calls with Mum during lockdown, which meant she was able to see and chat to us all, including her grandchildren virtually throughout, and then allowing Dad to start visiting again once restrictions were lifted. Thank you to everyone in Selbourne as well as all the other staff, who always made sure they knew both Mum and Dad, which made such a difference to them, in the final part of Mum's life.

Generally adequate for respite care. Communication between departments could be more efficient. Supply of medication and wound dressing should be reviewed and agreed upon on arrival and potential shortfalls anticipated.

My elderly mother was having difficulty living on her own, with increasing health and mobility issues. Determined to stay in her own home she reluctantly agreed to a 2-week respite stay at Brendoncare. From my first contact with the Customer Relations Manager, I felt a huge weight was lifted from
my shoulders. She listened to all my concerns and put my mind at rest, guiding me through the admission process with the Nurse Manager and Administrator. All of my mother's needs were discussed and organised prior to the day she arrived - and at short notice due to family circumstances. At the end of the respite care period, my mother asked if she could stay as a permanent resident.
I have no doubt this was as a result of the kindness and understanding shown by all the staff - without exception. My mother feels safe again and now enjoys the company she had been missing. The focus is 100% on the well-being, care and safety of the residents and my mother is happy again!

Mum had never stayed in respite care before but her care has increased as both her mental and physical health decline. I am her daughter and full-time carer and was worried about leaving her for ten days thinking her health would suffer. I am delighted to say she actually seemed to enjoy her time in
Brendoncare. She liked the carers, surprisingly didn’t complain about the food and was remarkably well when she came out.
I would not hesitate to use this friendly well run home again. It was recommended by a friend and I am delighted to recommend it myself.

Mum was admitted for 2 weeks of respite care. The staff at Brendoncare Alton are fantastic. They are extremely courteous and polite and treat everyone with dignity and respect. Nothing is too much trouble for them and they will assist in any way they can.
Mum, unfortunately, is suffering from advanced
dementia and needs assistance with everything which was compassionately and caringly provided by the staff.

I get a strong impression that Brendoncare is a well-managed and efficiently run home where the well-being, safety and satisfaction of the residents is the absolute priority. My wife has settled in quickly and seems very content with her new environment, vaccinations and doctor appointments have gone
smoothly even though this has involved going off-site. The facilities within the home appear first-class my wife has now visited the hair salon and is very pleased with her new cut. She is enjoying the food and is eating well. My wife entered the home at a difficult time with the ongoing pandemic but this was all dealt with without a hiccup.

They were able to admit mum at quite short notice although I did have multiple conversations with the staff, none of whom had access to the information I had already provided. The receptionist was rather brusque and did not show any recognition of who we were when we visited, not very good front of
house. The nursing/care staff and activity staff were kind and caring.

It was a very difficult decision putting Mum into a care home but it’s been the best thing for her. All the staff have been kind, caring and supportive from the first day Mum moved in. She’s so happy and never has a bad word to say about anything. I feel very welcome when I go in and I’m so grateful
to everyone for continuing with the same amount of care during the pandemic. It’s been a very difficult time for staff, family and friends but they’ve continued to give the high standard of care they’ve always given and I’m so grateful.

My late mother was a resident at Brendoncare, Alton, for over three years. I have found all the care, support, administrative and managerial staff to be extremely friendly, kind and helpful. The culture at Brendoncare was that nothing was too much trouble for them to do for my mother and this showed
in her being very happy there. During the later stages of my mother's life she suffered from dementia and the staff's kind and caring culture certainly helped minimise the effects of this awful illness. The managerial and support staff held regular relatives meetings, where all aspects of the residents' life at the care home were covered. These meetings were extremely useful in terms of updates on the running of the care home and were run as a two-way communication channel between the relatives and the care home staff. The care home also organised a wide range of activities for their residents to come along to, which was absolutely great. Thank you all again for your care and kindness.

When my mother was admitted into Brendoncare Alton she was very confused especially with all the current lockdown and restrictions in place and of course having moved there from a hospital then had to self isolate for 2 weeks in her room. As her door was not closed and she could hear other residents
and staff talking and walking around and of course they would always speak when they went past her room so she realised that it was not so bad. After her isolation and being able to mix in the day room with other residents, it didn't take her long to settle down and she is now very settled and in good spirits. Actually, mum didn't like to mix or meet new people before and would just sit in her flat and watch TV so it was a big surprise to see her actually mixing and enjoying a laugh with residents and staff alike. Mum is eating regularly which wasn't always the case at home, would say she was but sometimes it was too much bother and she would say she was just to stop you fussing.

Joanne

Joanne Gullon

Job Title: General Manager

Joined: 2023

Jo Gullon joined as Brendoncare Alton’s General Manager in December 2023.


She brings with her more than 30 years of experience working in care. She started as a carer for people with learning disabilities before moving into domiciliary care. Jo then managed a series of care homes including ones for people living with dementia.


Jo firmly believes that a sense of family is vital to all of Brendoncare’s work, particularly for residents and teams in its care homes.

Cristina Calinescu

Job Title: Deputy Manager

Both my mother and my grandmother had a passion for caring and their dedication to helping other people inspired me to train as a nurse. I graduated in nursing in 2005, then took a Masters degree in Psychology and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in 2008. After having worked in two private settings, I started working in social care in 2015 and joined Brendoncare in 2018 as Deputy Manager. I am deeply passionate about making a positive impact in people's lives, especially in a field where understanding, empathy and support are crucial.


Outside work, I enjoy spending time with my family and watching my young daughter growing up and exploring the world around her. My husband restores classic cars and we enjoy going to car races and shows and have even won some international competitions.

Janet Graham

Job Title: Customer Relations Manager

My 12 years of social care experience have been mainly working for corporate nursing home providers in customer-facing roles supporting families seeking residential care for their loved ones. I joined Brendoncare in 2017 initially as a wellbeing coordinator, bringing fun and joy to residents’ lives through a range of activities. After a brief spell in 2019 working for another care provider, I returned to Brendoncare as Customer Relations Manager. This role involves supporting new residents and their families to ensure their move to a Brendoncare home goes as smoothly as possible.


I enjoy watercolour painting and entering amateur photography competitions. I love the smell of freshly cut grass and fragrant roses in my garden – appreciating the beauty of life’s simple pleasures means so much to me.

Job Title: Close Care Supervisor, Mary Rose Mews

I have been working in health and social care since I left education in 2010 working with many sectors of different ages and abilities but my true passion lies with independent living due to their wittiness and not being afraid to tell you how it is!


I have a family of 2 and a Miniature Dachshund all of which keep me busy! I love to socialise and get involved in anything and everything! When I do have spare time, I enjoy swimming/walks and simply enjoying a glass of bubbles in the summer evenings.

I started at Brendoncare Alton in the summer of 2016 as a care assistant, I then progressed to a senior carer and I have now been doing the role of practice educator for just over 2 years. I enjoy supporting new starters and ensuring they all have a good concept of Brendoncare's core values.


Outside work, I have a keen interest in attending personal training sessions and yoga. I also enjoy reading, with my favourite genres being romance and fantasy. I also spend a lot of time with my niece and nephew being the fun cool Auntie!

Giovanna Catalano

Job Title: Home Administrator

Joined: 2023

I have been working in the public care sector since I was 18 years old having initially trained as a Dental Nurse. I have gained valuable experience in both clinical and administrative roles within a variety of settings including the NHS, hospice, mental health and the Police as a 999-call handler. One of my greatest achievements is gaining my Diploma in Healthcare Practice in Operating Department Practice.


I pride myself on my empathy and compassion and it gives me a huge sense of joy and achievement to help others in every aspect of their lives.


I have been with Brendoncare since November 2023 and have loved every second. I feel as though my working experience in so many different fields has brought me home. I work with a fantastic team who are incredibly passionate about our residents.


In my spare time I love to go for walks, visit the beach, spend time with my loved ones and watch Del Boy! Laughter is the best medicine.
