Wonderful caring staff who do an amazing job looking after my mum. She could not be in a better place and I am so grateful.

My father stayed three weeks with you for rehab after being in hospital, following a fall at home. The home has been very welcoming and the staff have been helpful, positive and kind throughout. Being able to speak on the telephone or by Zoom was fantastic and more recently, to visit. I feel the care
Dad has received here is excellent. Thank you.

My opinion of your care home has dropped. Staff members are leaving due to changes being made. The food is often nowhere near as nice as it used to be. The veggies aren't cooked properly and the meat very chewie and greasy. It's such a shame, as it was the best.

Reply from Julie Caygill, Hospital Liaison Team Administrator at Chandlers Ford Care Home

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review. We strive to provide the very best service to our residents and their loved ones and are sorry that you feel the food is not up to our very high standards. We would value a conversation with you to understand if there are some specific preferences we could better accommodate and to provide assurance that the home continues to be supported by dedicated and committed colleagues.

The carers were lovely, really kind and sensitive to how I and Gran were feeling.
If we could have an enclosed space with a glass wall to talk through and a microphone it would make visits even better, but I'm guessing there's not much money to pay for this.

Visited Mother on 12/2/20 to find her in a t-shirt/vest and pants only. She normally wears a nightie and has at least 6/7. None of them were in her drawer and no undershirts. Not happy when paying over £1200 per week. I expect the clients to be treated with respect in their final years. Also on 20/2/20
I found a tablet on the floor!

Since my dad has been at the home, a year now, I have seen changes. The care staff are not efficient, ie. when residents need toileting and help with other things, they have to go and find them or press bells - then it's a long wait. Sometimes communication is poor between staff about situations, ie.
if a doctor has been called or any other medical situations regarding residents. The food and drink, activities and general cleanliness of the home are excellent. Sometimes a few staff changes are noticed.

Reply from Clare Sheehan, Careline Advisor at Chandlers Ford Care Home

Many thanks for taking the time to complete a review. We are pleased that you have found a number of aspects of the home to be excellent, however we are sorry to receive your feedback regarding call bell answering times and communication. We would welcome the opportunity to discuss these concerns with you personally when you are next in the home.

While some staff are exemplary, others can be offhand and dismissive. Adequacy of care may sometimes be compromised by lack of sufficient staff and resident may be left uncleaned and toileting unsupervised.

Our experience has been extremely good and my mother-in-law has now settled very well. The staff are all very friendly and welcome us every time we visit. The environment is very homely and relaxed which is very important to my elderly mother in law. Sincere thanks to all the staff, including the hairdresser,
you have all helped my husband and I know we made the right decision.

My sister seems happy as a resident but when visiting, I am sometimes very annoyed at how long residents in the lounge have to wait when they ring the bell for the toilet. Not acceptable in view of the fees for care.
Apart from this, it seems a caring place to be.

Reply from Clare Sheehan, Careline Advisor at Chandlers Ford Care Home

Thank you for your comments. We are glad to hear your sister is happy at Chandlers Ford. We take on board what you have said regarding wait times for Residents to be assisted and can confirm that we aim to do our best for all of our Residents. There are times when staff are busy with other Residents but we still aim to assist all of our Residents in a timely manner based on their specific needs.

My father has been in excellent hands since being admitted to the home. He has been well provided for in clean, hygenic and very pleasant surroundings. The staff have been very helpful and attentive at all times. Hopefully, I would not need the services of the care home again, but should the need ever
arise, I would not hesitate in choosing the Chandlers Ford Care home again.

A home with lots for residents to take part in and staff to encourage them.
As PAT dog visitor and as a relative, I am always warmly welcomed.
Residents look well cared for with particular requests respected.

On our first visit to ‘H.C. ONE Chandlers Ford’ we were greeted by the administrator who explained the ethos of the home but didn’t pressurise us to make a hasty decision.
When my mother arrived from hospital she was greeted by staff who made her feel welcome as one of the large family at Chandler’s
Ford. Since then we have been amazed at the care and devotion given by the staff.
She has always been looked after with great dignity and care.
Her patient notes are continually updated which gives continuity of care.
The building is secure and visitors are checked in by a staff member, this also means that residents can’t wander out without staff knowing this gives us great peace of mind.
The food always looks appetising and is varied, tea coffee and juice, freshly made cake is available whenever it is wanted.
There is a program of stimulating activities throughout the week which residents relatives are welcome to attend.
We are pleased that we chose to send mum here.

My main concern is that my wife is washed and dressed ready for the physiotherapist when she has a morning appointment.
Apart from this, I am very satisfied with the care given by the home.

Every member of staff I have had contact with has been very friendly, polite and helpful. Mum's room is bright and well decorated with nice furnishings. The food is good and residents can choose whether to eat in the dining room or lounge.
There are activities arranged as well as trips out. I'm very
happy indeed with the care given and mum has settled in well.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.122)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.122) out of 10 for Chandlers Ford Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.222 for Chandlers Ford Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (55 Excellents x 5) + (36 Goods x 4) + (23 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 117 Ratings = 4.222

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Chandlers Ford Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 45 registered maximum number of service users is 9, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
