My father was offered a place at Dunwood Manor Nursing Home on 2/1/24, after spells in and out of the hospital over a 7-month span. It’s been the best thing that could have happened to dad. The staff are first class. They are very caring and help dad settle in from the word go. The nursing care at this
moment in time is first class. There is a good atmosphere in the home, with friendly smiling friendly faces. The food is prepared in the kitchen and my father says the food is very good, and plenty of it. Overall I am very pleased with the way things are going 10 out of 10.

Thank you for your consideration and informed review. Firstly I am delighted to read that we have made your Dad more comfortable and settled than he was. Little matters more than the Resident feeling comfortable and settled. We appreciate your feedback, we take our reviews seriously and we share them with the team so we all benefit. My very best wishes to your family, Helen

For the few weeks that my husband was in the home before his death there, all members of the staff showed both him and me the utmost kindness, care, consideration and, yes, love. I could not have asked for more.

My wife's stay at Dunwood Manor was only seven weeks but during that time her care was outstanding. She loved her room and said so almost every day. During her stay, we celebrated our 60th wedding anniversary and her 80th birthday. On the Tuesday of Easter week, we had a family gathering of eight and
the home kindly provided us with a small room with tea, coffee and sandwiches. A wonderful experience, thank you all so much for looking after her so well.

Reply from Helen Jones, Chief Executive Officer at Dunwood Manor

Happy Anniversary! What a wonderful achievement, I am so glad we were able to support your celebrations. It's very pleasing to hear your feedback and that of your wife, thank you for sharing it. The team will be completely delighted to read your kind words, thank you. With my best wishes to you and your family, Helen.

My mum was a resident at Dunwood Manor for seven weeks with a terminal illness. Throughout her time there, she received exemplary care from every member of staff. All her care needs were fully met and the staff treated her with dignity and respect. Mum adored her room, had outstanding care and was supported
through the final chapter of her life by a brilliant team. The staff were brilliant with my dad too and they were able to celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary and Mum's 80th Birthday in Dunwood Manor. I cannot thank the staff and praise them highly enough for their professional, friendly and first class care. To receive such help at a challenging time was a tremendous source of comfort.

From the first day of my mum arriving at Dunwood Manor Care Home, I was very impressed with the care offered to my mum. As a very regular visitor, I was well pleased to see the ongoing care offered so far which was first-class in every way. Mum died in Dunwood Manor surrounded by her sons and at the
point of death, care given by one member of staff was gentle and caring.

Reply from Helen Jones, CEO at Dunwood Manor

Dunwood Manor is a clean, friendly home. The staff are approachable and caring. Standards of care and hygiene are excellent. Attention to detail in every area is evident. Food is tapered to personal needs and is presented in an appetising manner. Nothing is too much trouble and they strive to make the
rooms homely. I would recommend Dunwood as a first-choice home if you were unable to care for your loved one.

Reply from Helen Jones, CEO at Dunwood Manor

Hello, thank you for your review and your kind words. I particularly relate to your phrase "attention to detail in every area is evident". The manager and the whole team - housekeeping, food services as well as the care and clinical teams all really pay attention to getting things right for each resident. It's so heartening to see. My best wishes for you and your family and thanks again, Helen.

My father has only been in residency since the beginning of January so it is very difficult for me to give an accurate review. However, my experience so far has been more than satisfactory. The staff have been excellent and keep me up to date with my father's condition and any treatment he may require.
Overall very happy.

My wife has been at Dunwood for several months, has settled in well and is very content.
She gets on very well with the staff - they are very kind, and nothing is too much trouble for them.
The food is excellent, and she looks forward to every meal. She says that due to her circumstances, she is
in the best possible place, which in turn, means I do not have to worry about her as she is in good hands.

I cannot express in words how kind, caring and helpful the manager and the team have been. My mother was admitted for end of life and they have made a distressing situation easier to deal with. Their help with paperwork has been invaluable as this is a time of huge stress and worry. An empathetic and
kind team from cleaners to management and it shines through!

My wife was admitted for assessment.
She was unable to leave her bed so was excluded from social activities.
As a result, she lacked stimulation, except at meal times.

Dunwood Manor has a very welcoming feel to it. Staff and management are very friendly and supportive to both myself and my husband.
Nothing is too much trouble for them, I feel reassured that my husband is getting very good care. The care staff and nurses are extremely professional, very kind and
patient to all the residents whilst dealing with some challenging behaviour! I visit most days, this is my honest review.

I have visited my partner weekly in Dunwood Manor over the past 18 months. She is bedbound and has Dementia. The quality of care has improved considerably over the past 6 months and staffing levels have increased. My visit today (23/11), was typical of the great care and compassion that staff have shown
in that she was given a facial and a manicure whilst I was visiting. At 3 pm the tea trolly arrived with lots of goodies in the form of cakes and biscuits. The friendly care assistant knew exactly how she likes her tea and also provided yoghurt and cake. She really enjoyed the offerings and the carer assisted her in a very cheerful and professional manner. Her room was neat, tidy and clean and various personal items were placed where she could see them. During my visit, the Deputy Manager and two care assistants came to check that all was well, and it was. I am content that she is being given excellent care and that a detailed care plan is in place and being executed fully.

Reply from Jan Cresdee, Manager at Dunwood Manor

Thank you, Paul, for your feedback which is appreciated by the Dunwood Team. We are so pleased to hear that the facial and manicure were much enjoyed and that all was well.

We were very fortunate that there was a room available for my husband when Alzheimer's disease forced us to consider full-time care. Since then, his condition has improved enormously which I put down to medication and good nursing care from the staff. I have been kept fully informed of all mishaps and
relieved that he has access to prompt medical attention. While respecting Covid restrictions, it has been easy for me, family and friends to visit him. My husband manages to be fairly cheerful, despite the frustrating limitations of his illness and we are all feeling happier, knowing that he is in safe hands.

Reply from Jan Cresdee, Manager at Dunwood Manor

Thank you, we all appreciate your valuable feedback. It was lovely to see you all go out as a family on Saturday. Thankfully, the Covid restrictions are less now and more visitors are coming into the home, which is good news for everyone.

My wife greatly enjoyed her time spent at Dunwood Manor.
She experienced a very high level of care and good relations with the staff.
She is confined to bed but fully mentally alert, which meant she quite naturally, quite often got frustrated with her situation - the staff managed that aspect extremely
well.
She looked forward to and received a daily visit from me; I am the only family member within striking distance.
Unfortunately, she has had to leave the home due entirely to difficulties with the restricted visiting times.
Very regrettable.

My brother is a resident at Dunwood Manor having been there since July 2021. The nursing staff have been brilliant, my brother is not an easy man and since having Alzheimer's has become even more difficult and they have shown patience and kindness always. In the first few months of 2022, some things
at the home did not appear to be functioning as normal and communications were not being made making me feel slightly uneasy as I was not certain what was happening. It became apparent that the manager has left and therefore the deputy manager was having to deal with everything. A new manager has now been appointed and in the last couple of months, things at the home have greatly improved. Communications have improved dramatically and I now feel calm and optimistic about the home's future and my brother's future there which is reassuring and very welcome after some months of uncertainty.

Reply from Helen Jones, CEO at Dunwood Manor

I was totally against my mother going into any care home. The way my mother has been treated is better than I could ever have expected. The staff have been wonderful with our mother and very supportive with myself and my sister in a very difficult time for us all. Thank you all so much you work so hard
and are such nice people.

My mum has been at Dunwood Manor for two years now. I visited several other dementia registered homes in the area before settling on Dunwood to move my mother into from the North of England. The matron was very supportive throughout the whole potentially daunting process. Mum settled in well and the
senior staff worked with us to resolve any teething problems. By the end of the first week, Mum had been out in the minibus on a forest drive. Stimulation and activities are important for Mum's quality of life as her dementia progresses and the activities coordinators work hard to engage her appropriately. When Covid-19 struck I felt confident that even though I couldn't see her for months, having placed Mum in their care she would be safe and well looked after. I have been impressed with how well the home has handled the challenges of the pandemic. Mum responds well to the care staff so I know that she is comfortable, confident and supported in a lovely, hotel-like setting.

Reply from Helen Jones, CEO at Dunwood Manor

Hello,
Thank you for your review of Dunwood Manor. We completely agree with you that stimulation and activities, going out and about as the rest of us do, is really important element for quality of life.
Management of the challenges through the pandemic was very difficult for everyone. We are so very proud of how our team pulled together to provide even more care and support to the residents. We were all missing the families' visits and support. Thank you for your kind support. We are very pleased to have your mother live with us. Best wishes.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.178)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.178) out of 10 for Dunwood Manor is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.842 for Dunwood Manor is calculated as follows: ( (64 Excellents x 5) + (12 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 76 Ratings = 4.842

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.336 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Dunwood Manor is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 55 registered maximum number of service users is 11. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 11 = 0.636

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
