The team is delighted to announce that they were nominated, out of 400 nursing homes, for a prestigious award of Nursing Home of the Year, and were delighted to go on and win this fantastic award, officially naming Gorselands Nursing Home as Nursing Home of the Year 2024 in Hampshire.

Gorselands is an exceptionally clean, well-presented establishment with polite, caring staff. I'm very happy that my sister is in good hands while she recuperates from her illness. I can safely say that the care and attention my sister receives exceeds our expectations and cannot be easily faulted.

My mother was in Gorselands for just under two years and recently passed away at the home. I cannot thank the staff enough for all the care and kindness they provided to my mother, but also to us as a family. It is a really special place... extremely homely, with beautiful gardens. Many of the staff
have been there a long time which I think is a credit to the family atmosphere and 'non-corporate' feel of the home...
The nursing staff were excellent at keeping us informed of any changes in Mum's care planning and I cannot fault their communication and also their compassion. I will genuinely miss all the care and activity staff... they are such a lovely group of people. I keep thinking about Mum's last days at Gorselands and how well she was cared for and I am so grateful that her end-of-life care was here... filled with warmth and compassion and not isolated on a hospital ward. Thank you Gorselands for all that you do... A very special place

Our dear dad was so happy at Gorselands and spent just over two years being cared for by the team.
I shall miss my visits as the staff became friends. Independently owned, there is a 'home from home' feel about the place, with long-standing staff. This is a big plus. The team really got to know
Dad and took time to build a relationship with him. He loved his food, his trips out on the bus, music entertainment and all the attention he received with his foot massages and haircuts. The grounds are beautiful, and the setting overall so peaceful. The management work hard as does everyone. I have so much respect for the team at Gorselands. A hard job done well. Thank you.

Mum first came here to stay temporarily (while her husband was in hospital). After he passed away, we thought to move Mum closer to her family. But as Mum had settled in so well (and we all really liked the place too) we decided the best option was for Mum to stay here permanently (even though it's
further to travel to visit).
Gorselands is a family-run home with a warm and friendly atmosphere. All the staff are professional, friendly and approachable and always happy to help with questions about Mum. There's a minibus for day trips out, regular updates on social media and lots of activities laid on for the residents. There is a nice garden to sit in, ideal when visiting on warm summer days, and in the winter the home is warm and cosy. The cleaning standards are excellent throughout.
Mum has been living at Gorselands for eight months now, is very happy there and well looked after. It's reassuring to know Mum will spend her final years in such a lovely place.
Can highly recommend.

Mum spent six months in Gorselands before she passed away. We were very impressed with the care she received. All the staff were cheerful, caring and professional in their duties. They strived to make the home as welcoming and homely for the residents as possible. At the end of her life, the palliative
care was excellent. She was treated with dignity at all times.

My mother passed away at Gorselands on 22nd May. She had spent two and a half very happy years there. The trained medical and caring staff were always there to help and make my mother feel confident and secure. When emergencies happened we were always informed very quickly.
The excellent activities
staff kept my mother occupied with crafts, music, singing and dancing. Mum often enjoyed visits out to the wider environment.
All the staff were polite, kind and friendly. The Home has a family house feeling about it.
My mother was helped to pass very peacefully and comfortably. We could not have wished for more.

A pleasant nursing home in which my late father was happy and settled in. However, there were unfortunate circumstances on the night he passed away that involved an investigation which was carried out by the home. However the closing email from the investigation was not really satisfactory and has made
it hard for myself, my brother and the family to grieve. There have been a lot of staff issues and changes to management which has caused conflict making our grieving process harder as promises made were not addressed making it an even more upsetting process.

I give a 5-star review because I can arrive at very short notice to see my father and he is always clean and dressed and often eating a very nice lunch.
The staff are always attentive and happy to help in their busy schedule.
It's never easy, leaving your loved ones to others, but I am very happy

Gorselands is wonderful! My father spent the last eleven months of his life being so well looked after and I enjoyed visiting him there. His room was lovely, bright and cheerful. I never once saw a member of staff that was cross or even slightly grumpy, always happy and smiling. They were so kind to

My father was admitted to Gorselands Nursing Home at the end of November as he was extremely frail. Unfortunately, he passed away just before Christmas. However, the end of life care he received was excellent. The staff were all wonderful to him. As a family, we were looked after well and treated with
empathy and compassion.
This home is truly a home filled with kindness and love. The family would like to thank all the staff and management very much.

My mum is now 97; she is in good health, albeit she has poor memory. I can't fault the Gorselands home. The staff are excellent, as are the facilities. The activities are good, albeit my mum chooses not to leave her room, but that is her personal choice.

I have resided at Gorselands on three occasions and have felt "at home" and very well cared for on each occasion. The staff are friendly and always helpful, nothing is too much trouble for them. Should I need permanent care, later on, I shall not hesitate to choose Gorselands.

My wife and I took over the running of Gorselands Nursing Home more than 6 years ago. Gorselands has been in our family for more than 20 years, with most of those years having my parents at the helm.


Sadly, we lost my beloved mother a few years ago following a long-term illness. My wife and I took over the running of Gorselands as it is a very special and idyllic home where my mother wished to live out her last days.


We by no means, attempt to keep up with the brand-new clinical-like homes. However, what we do is create a home-from-home experience. We try to maintain the old ways that our parents and grandparents loved to cherish. We offer home-cooked meals, love, and care, and our desire is to ensure a lifelong home for our residents. In a very minimal number of cases, we need to refer some of our residents to specialised homes if we feel their safety or the safety of others could be compromised. However, it is rare.


We would love for you to experience a day with the Gorselands family and invite you to pop along and meet the team. We can always discuss a solution that will fit your needs over a warm cup of tea.


Ciprian

Ciprian Silaghi

Job Title: Interim Manager

Have you ever wondered how Gorselands keeps running like a well-oiled machine?


Our Interim Manager Ciprian has a big part to play in that.


He first came to the UK in 2014 as a healthcare assistant and by 2015 he'd become a registered nurse. Three years later he joined Gorselands Nursing Home and has been here ever since.


Ciprian loves the stunning countryside around our home and enjoys supporting the team and our residents in his current role as Deputy Manager.


He has worked in the care sector for nine years now - so if you ever have any questions about care for an elderly relative, he's the man to ask!

Anca Toma

Job Title: Registered General Nurse

Anca is a compassionate and dedicated nurse with more than a decade of experience in the UK.


She takes immense pride in her work and is committed to delivering excellent care to her patients. Anca's experience as an emergency nurse for five years in Romania has shaped her perspective on healthcare, and she carries that valuable experience with her in her current role.

Adam

Adam Waller

Job Title: Head Chef

Our skilful and smiling Head Chef at Gorselands - Adam.


He started working in kitchens at the age of 16 as a kitchen porter, working his way up the ranks at The Woolpack in Sopley, whilst studying at catering college in Bournemouth and Poole.


Whilst attending college, Adam took on work placements at the Dormy House Hotel in the Cotswolds and at Claridges in London, before returning to run The Woolpack's kitchen. Later in his career, he moved over to Tyrrells Ford Country Hotel near Christchurch, to become their Head Chef, before switching to Sous Chef at The Alice Lisle near Ringwood. (We think you'll agree, that's a pretty impressive CV!)


Adam has now been Head Chef at Gorselands for two years, after deciding to leave the pub industry behind and try something new. His career has always had a fresh food focus and it remains his top priority when delivering delicious homemade meals for our residents, each and every day.


Paula

Paula Delong

Job Title: Chef

Joined: 2016

Paula started her catering career back in 1979 working for Whitbread Inns who encouraged her to study at a catering college and get her City & Guilds qualifications.


She then successfully ran her own business for seven years but when Paula began to get fed up with the long hours she joined the team at Gorselands, initially as a carer, but we couldn't let those culinary skills go to waste!


Paula has now been with us for a long time and loves being part of the tight-knit Gorselands team.


Susan

Susan Blackmore

Job Title: Activity Coordinator

Joined: 2013

The one and only Susie.


Susie keeps Gorselands' residents entertained with her never-ending ideas for fantastic, interactive activities.


She started work at the age of 14, beginning in bars and hotels before turning self-employed, buying a small van and converting it into a food truck.


Later upgrading to a bus, Susie served food by the side of the A31 for a total of nine years!


Feeling that she wanted to do something more rewarding, she joined Gorselands as a carer and worked with us for five years. After getting married, Susie moved to work for Colten Care for 23 years before a relocation to Ringwood brought her back to Gorselands.


Susie has now worked with Gorselands for nearly 11 years and we can't imagine the place without her.

In 1997, Eileen started working as a caregiver in nursing homes. Her dedication and compassion helped her to become a registered manager over the years. She moved to the New Forest but couldn't stay away from Gorselands nursing home, where she now brings joy as a social carer on the activity team.


However, her favourite moments are spent in the forest, taking her 2 chow chows out for a walk. Every step taken in the woods is a reminder of life's simple joys and the love she brings to her caring job.


Eileen's story is one of love, service, and dedication. She leaves a lasting impact on everyone she meets.

Meet Jodie, who works at Gorselands in the activities team. She previously worked in a care facility and another home, organising activities. She enjoys being with all the residents and has continued this passion at Gorselands. Jodie also worked abroad in Cyprus as a TUI children's representative, which was a great experience. Her talents include dancing and competing in competitions, as well as swimming. She also enjoys spending time in the sun, travelling, and being with her daughter and husband.
