  • The top priority is to protect residents, this means that visitors must follow the visiting guidelines to ensure all protection measures in place. They ask for visitors support in keeping everyone safe.


    Please do not come into the service if feeling unwell or have any symptoms of cold or flu. The residents are very vulnerable.


    Visiting is strictly by appointment only, if turning up without an appointment, visitors will likely be turned away.


    Appointments can only be booked during office hours Monday to Friday – please ring reception to book an appointment.


    Good hand hygiene remains essential please use the alcohol gel provided before entering the home.


    Visitors will not be permitted to enter into any part of the service that is not designated for visits and will be escorted to the area.


    Arrangements to take residents out of the service will be arranged with senior Clinical teams, where a full risk assessment of needs and behaviour is undertaken to ensure it is safe to do so.


    At all times the staff are there to help visitors and their residents; please do not be afraid to speak to staff about loved ones if there is anything of concern.

The improvement in my friend since he became a resident has been amazing. He is a different person and always cheerful. The staff are friendly, cheerful and helpful and always have "time" they are kind and caring they seem to really enjoy what they are doing and the atmosphere is warm and caring. The
facilities are welcoming.

My husband has been in South Africa Lodge since June 18 and I cannot fault it! Dementia has "robbed" me the ability to care for him at home and the staff look after him so well. I don't stop worrying about him but I truly know he is cared for by nurses, carers, cleaners, activity staff and management.

My husband has been at South Africa Lodge since last March. First impressions - light, clean, tidy, calm, well run and very hospitable. His room has a lovely view - quite large and with a shower and toilet. Relatives are encouraged to bring in personal items to make the residents feel at home. Staff
without exception are caring, friendly, concerned, knowledgeable and will always go the extra mile to help both relatives and residents. Events are organised - summer fare, musical afternoons, trips out in the minibus and diaries. Relatives can attend a meeting monthly. Food is excellent. I am so grateful to the staff for their care and support.

We visit our friend on a fortnightly basis and have seen him in 3 different homes over the last 2 years. Since he has been at South Africa Lodge we have seen great progress in his manner and conversation. He has improved so much which is all due to the care given to him by all the staff. They are a
credit to their profession. I would, if it happened to me, love to be placed under their care and supervision as I know I would be safe and taken good care of.

I'm writing this review because I know how hard it is to find the right home. My aunty has been in good homes, and bad ones. It isn't until they are somewhere decent that you realise that really good homes do exist.
The things that have impressed me at South Africa Lodge are:
Coping with a fussy eater
to make sure dietary needs are met.
Trips out, facilities and decent staffing levels to ensure life is varied and staff have time to talk to residents.
Going the extra mile, such as my relative enjoys cuddling a doll, and thinks it is her baby, so they found her a Moses basket and baby clothes for the doll.
Keeping me informed about any accidents, new medications.
How few falls she has had (previously she was forever going to the hospital after falls).
Keeping my aunty clean and well groomed, maintaining her dignity.
All little things, but that is what makes up life!
I hope this information helps someone to decide whether this home is worth considering for their relative.

Our daughter has been living at South Africa Lodge since December 2016. When we arrived she had several serious health problems. During the time she has bee there we have visited most days and have seen the excellent care and support she has been given by all the staff. Not only do they care for our
daughter, but they have shown us (her parents) kindness and support too, especially during the difficult times we've been through.

My husband has been a resident of South Africa Lodge, Waterlooville for seven years. He has late stages of Alzheimer's and other illnesses. I am fully satisfied with his care and prompt treatment when ill. The staff at all levels are caring, competent, hard working and adhere to individual care plans.
GP's visit twice weekly and OT's are also in attendance. Cleanliness and hygiene is very good, food delicious too. The home has beautiful well-used gardens, excellent entertainment team, two mini buses used for visits, wheel chairs can be used. It is a pleasure to visit as everyone is friendly and welcoming.

My mother has been a resident for approx one year, in that time I have found the Lodge staff to be unwavering in their aims to make this a "home" for her.
The nursing care is second to none and the emotional care constant, recently we were asked if anything else could make things better for mum, even
though this involved providing a room with a wet room as mum is in a wheelchair this was organised quickly and efficiently taking on all emotional health and well-being. I can't praise them enough.

My Dad recently passed away whilst in South Africa Lodge. Although Dad was only in the Lodge for a month or so, I can only describe the conditions, facilities, care and attention provided to Dad, and support for us as a family, as being above and beyond anything that we expected.


From the outset

we were told to treat the premises as our home, whilst we were there, in terms of making tea etc.


On the final day we were provided with food for all family members present and my mother was provided with a bedroom for the final night.


South Africa Lodge was the only Nursing Home that was offering to take Dad with the level of care he required but I am so glad he spent his last days in such a wonderful environment. We will never forget how in the last 36 hours, when death was imminent, the staff still religiously changed Dad and his bedding every few hours. Its amazing how such memories stick at sad times.


It would be unfair to single out any individual member of staff as all provided the highest possible standards of attention, care, support and friendliness.


We cannot praise South Africa Lodge enough and are reassured knowing that Dads last days were spent in such a wonderful environment
