My family and I have been impressed and satisfied with the level of care shown to my husband and also to other residents. The nursing and general care we find to be of a high standard with thoughtfulness, kindness and respect for the individual, obvious at all times. When visiting, we are made to feel
welcome and comfortable. Efforts made for the entertainment and activities for residents are very good and varied and I am sure enjoyed by many.

We had very little time to find a home that would meet my mother-in-law's needs and also one that would live up to our high expectations. From the moment we were met at the door by the General Manager who invited us, at no notice to look around Westacre Nursing Home we were pleasantly surprised and
heartened by the homely atmosphere and the passion and dedication of the staff. It is a very happy and friendly environment for residents, staff and other family visitors alike. The en-suite room was beautifully decorated and we were able to fill it with lots of flowers and personal memories. We cannot thank the staff enough for helping my mother-in-law and our family cope with her terminal illness; the encouragement and reassurance has been amazing. This home is a hidden gem in a lovely city and made our final time together as a family very special. A massive thank you to all the staff and residents of Westacre.

I would have no reservations in recommending Westacre Nursing Home. My mother-in-law was admitted for palliative care and yet the staff never gave up on her; they kept on coming up with new ways to make her as comfortable as possible. Even though the family had a relatively short relationship with
Westacre, all the staff, from the manager, nurses, carers to the kitchen staff, were invariably both warm and professional. The atmosphere was always friendly; we are so grateful that we were encouraged to share our meals with my mother-in-law in her beautiful sunny room as we now have some wonderful memories of her. We feel so very glad that such a lovely lady spent her last weeks in such a warm and caring environment.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.167)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.167) out of 10 for Westacre Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.831 for Westacre Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (71 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 83 Ratings = 4.831

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.336 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Westacre Nursing Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 55 registered maximum number of service users is 11. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 11 = 0.636

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Manager

I became the manager of Westacre in July 2020. I entered this position after working as a matron for Peartree Neuro Rehab, another home under the same ownership. I began my career in healthcare in 1997 as a carer for the NHS until working my way up to ward manager. I worked in the NHS for 34 years before joining Peartree. Most of my nursing career has been working in older person mental health with complex dementia, with a brief episode with Adolescence. In 2001 I was seconded to complete my mental health nurse training. I love my summer holidays and spending time with my dog, Sky.
