Erskine Hall provides nursing, residential and dementia care. Inside the impressive, purpose-built home, they offer a warm welcome to long and short stays, including care for those living with Parkinson’s or Huntington’s care. Respite bookings can be made in advance if planning a holiday or break.

Based in a quiet suburb of Northwood, on the outskirts of Watford. There are plenty of peaceful spots and social spaces to spend time in. Residents have a choice of five lounges, where they can grab a book and cosy up in one of the armchairs or catch up with loved ones over coffee and cake. There’s an inviting terrace on the first floor, large patio area and lots of garden space that residents are free to explore, too. The home also benefits from a cinema room, hairdressing room with nail bar too.

There's a great atmosphere and the staff encourage residents to get involved as much as they’d like. To help residents feel at home, they take the time to get to know them. The home can then tailor activities to their interests and hobbies too. From activities such as community quizzes, crafts and flower arranging to tea dances and fetes, there is so much for residents to enjoy.

The chefs prepare a range of wholesome meals for residents to enjoy in the social dining area or in the comfort of their own room. They also talk to each resident about their likes, dislikes and any special dietary needs when they move in. That way, their food is cooked just right.

My husband spent the last week of his life being cared for at Erskine Hall, and although the staff were extremely kind and caring I did feel they were understaffed.
Our main concern was the locum from their GP surgery who attended to certify my husbands passing became unavailable and we had extreme
difficulty in obtaining certificate required to register his death. After two days we had to contact the hospital from where he had been transferred to Erskine Hall, where a consultant who had cared for him was able to issue a certificate.

The building and facilities were excellent and near our residence. This was the 2nd respite stay for my husband. 1st 10 days in June were good/satisfactory and the staff knew my husband so I was encouraged to use the home again.
My husband has no speech and therefore cannot say what he feels. I felt
he was too challenging for the staff and they did not care enough to make him happy. They did mostly what I asked but it took tremendous effort and anxiety on my part. He would not return and it has put him off going to a home again.

I have been cared for very well. The care staff work very hard to make my stay good. The food is very good and there is a nice variety of meals. I also enjoyed the activities. Previous visits have been good and I will be returning again.

Our daughter was admitted into Erskine Hall in May 2016 and died in January 2017. Due to a brain and liver cancer, she was unable to look after herself and needed 24/7 care. We stayed for 2-3 days every week. Throughout her stay, our daughter (and us!!) were cared for fastidiously and lovingly by a
most caring and dedicated staff, including carers and auxiliary support.


We were deeply moved and encouraged by the way all the staff constantly attended our daughter's needs (which were varied and many!). Because radiotherapy had seriously impaired her short-term memory, she was frequently emotionally upset and we were often witnessed to the quiet presence of staff who quietly sat by her and soothed her fears! We have nothing but admiration and gratitude for all the love and professional support our daughter received from the staff of Erskine Hall!

Since my father has been in the home the level of care has reduced along with the quality of the service provided by the home. The churn of staff is very high causing a lack of continuity which is important for older people. Unfortunately, the home seems unable to keep a manager in place and despite
promises of long-term commitment most managers only seem to stay for a few months. This is having an adverse effect on the level of care as each one comes in with new ideas but none ever seem to reach fulfilment and only seem to put the already overworked staff under more pressure without improving the services provided. The fees keep being increased well above the rate of inflation but this money does not seem to be going towards the food or level of care which have both deteriorated since my father first went into the home. The home has been asked to discuss theses increase but then hide behind the BUPA umbrella.

The centre is well designed, and is set in attractive and well-maintained grounds, allowing residents to enjoy the outside environment. The bedrooms are spacious, as are the functional bathrooms, and they are cleaned to a good standard. My brother's room could do with redecorating, though. The staff
are friendly, cheerful, and helpful, and I like the availability of a monthly care plan review with the nominated carer. Car parking is sometimes difficult, though.

Erskine Hall Care Home provides an excellent standard of care and support. Although not her own home it provides my aunt with the next best thing. Throughout the time she has been a resident she has felt safe and well looked after. The programme of activities provided keeps her active and engaged, giving
her the opportunity to interact with other residents on a daily basis, ensuring she never feels isolated.


The choice and quality of food have always been very good.


The rooms are a good size, clean and comfortable and residents are encouraged to put her own pictures on the walls making them feel as much like they are in their own homes as possible. My aunt has also had a phone installed in her room enabling her to contact friends and family whenever she wishes.


The grounds are beautiful, with established trees and seating areas in various places so residents can walk around both inside and outside in a safe environment.


Although not cheap, Erskine Hall Care Home gives good value for money.

My mother is very happy and has settled well in her own room. The home is ideally situated for us with easy in and out access at all times during the day. My mother likes to go to mosque almost every week on Friday and sometimes during the weekends as well. The staff have taken to her and they always
ensure that she is ready well in time to leave the home in order to arrive for prayers on time.


The whole place is clean and the entire staff are very friendly and willing to assist all times when they are not busy. The home also has activity planner for all residents which I think is a very good idea to break the feeling being couped in one's own room whole day.

The surroundings in which Erskine Hall is set are superb with mature gardens front and back. This first impression augers well for what you can expect once inside. The nursing home is rather like a hotel in layout and decor which is no bad thing. The south facing lounges on each floor are light and
airy with excellent views over the grounds.


We have found the staff to be friendly and very professional.

This care home is good but could be great if they employed more carers. The carers they have, on the whole are dedicated, hard working but really are put under too much stress due to the lack of staff. This result in bells not being answered for a much longer time than one would like, putting the residents
themselves under stress, especially if they need to go to the toilet. Their dignity is then compromised. There is as new manager who has brought new life to the home, but I'm sure would be unable to put pressure on BUPA for more staffing?? The grounds to end on a high note are simply beautiful.

My mother aged 92 was brought into Erskine Hall on 3rd March 2015. She had been in hospital for 13 weeks. She had become bedridden and doubly incontinent. Her room was clean and she was well looked after. She had a limited diet and ate only eggs for virtually every meal and yoghurt and ice cream.
