Monread Lodge can provide residential, nursing and dementia care to the elderly, with up to sixty-four en-suite rooms available, all ground-floor accommodation for the ease of those with mobility concerns, and private parking and gardens.

A dedicated dementia unit named Knebworth Court was opened in October 2010 offering 16 appointed en-suite bedrooms. Residents can enjoy a spacious conservatory, choice of comfortable lounges and a dining room. There is also a central courtyard with a ornamental fishpond.

The home has an excellent inspection rating, looks to implement any modern methods and technology that can improve the lives and well-being of residents and follows person-centred care packages tailored to individual needs.

Staff maintain a sensitive attitude towards the concerns of loved ones, work hard to assure that admissions are as stress-free as possible and that new residents are made to feel welcome and at home.

My mother has been at Monread for over a year now and despite having some demanding needs, Monread have ensured that her needs are met, above and beyond. The clinical leads, the carers, cooks, cleaners, the lifestyle team, the maintenance team and the admin work tirelessly together to provide an excellent,
safe, comfortable and stimulating environment for the residents and I am so grateful for this. If ever I have questions or concerns, Lisa the care home manager always makes herself available to talk, listen and understand and she explains things to me in a way I can interpret and she is very keen to take and act on constructive feedback. This gives me confidence that we are doing the best we can do for Mum under very difficult circumstances. Thank you Monread, keep up the excellent work!

Activities at Monread:
- Very impressed with the activities provided in the home. Outings and events are well organised.
- Very inclusive, and updated regularly. Care and attention are given to residents who are bed-bound or unable to attend sessions.
- Excellent communication with residents and
visitors. Very supportive atmosphere.
- Materials given to residents were thoughtfully chosen including physical and mental stimulation.

Mum has been at Monread Lodge for more than three years now, including during the pandemic, and enjoyed every moment. The staff are wonderful: caring and smiley and above all, patient! Mum loves the food. The schedule of activities is inspired: I always enjoy reading the weekly newsletter with its photographs
of residents enjoying musical recitals, singalongs, 'armchair travel', arts and crafts, the 'Friday Film', baking, bingo, even visits from animals, such as the newly-hatched ducks, which were a real hit. The management works hard to engage with families, though communications could occasionally improve. Mum has no critical medical needs, so I can't judge clinical care. All in all, Monread Lodge is a 'home from home'. Mum is very happy there. All credit to the staff.

First impressions on visiting to review for a bed for my aunt were, "We knew it was going to be an amazing place for anyone to live." We visited 4 others but knew on walking around the feel of the environment, felt welcome, staff couldn't do enough for the residents, no lingering smells, light and airy.
In a week my aunt has regained her confidence in walking, likes her surroundings, is happy and settling well with supportive staff members.

The carer has been over and above with care and kindness. Taking Mum in a Taxi for hearing tests, and a temporary hearing aid then taking her to get the correct hearing aid when the pharmacy had received them. Checks her whenever on duty, he is an absolute diamond, excellent.

My mum was moved in for respite at the end of March for 3 weeks. She tells me she enjoyed the food and the staff were nice and friendly. I visited her every week for around an hour. Monread were informative with the newsletters via email. She enjoyed the baby ducklings and watching them hatch and told
me that they were now at a farm. As regards to entertainment, Mum tells me nothing much happened. I was there one day and bingo was being done and she said the music was good when a guy came in to sing. I would say looking at my mum on my visits to her, lots of the residents seemed to be less active and not as with it as my mum. I noticed my mum's mobility seemed to have improved, with her frame though it's a question as to will it be noticeable once realised for home. I do feel my mum needs more stimulation and maybe 3 weeks for her was a tad too long.

My mother has been a resident at Monread Lodge since Feb 2023, after admittance to hospital and losing the ability to walk. The care at Monread Lodge has been exemplary. My mother has severe clinical issues, numerous hospital appointments, and operations and the nursing care is outstanding. Each nurse
has been very professional and knowledgeable about the nursing care she requires. The carers too are very kind, very caring and very attentive. The activity team is wonderful, so creative, Mum has enjoyed visits from a pony, wallaby, newly-hatched ducklings and regular visits from a West End Musical theatre performer, leading everyone in a musical chorus. The catering team is excellent too, my mother looks forward to her meals. The excellent management and reception staff, the house cleaners and the laundry and maintenance are all very kind and very professional, having a word with the residents and their visitors, creating a wonderful, caring, homely atmosphere.

My mother has had excellent treatment since being transferred from Assisted living in December, it took settling in time and quite a few attempts at getting her care plan correct, the carers still ask mum what she wants to eat after having lists of what she does and doesn’t eat, especially as she has
severe dementia and doesn’t understand what they are asking, so she can’t really give an answer. This has been recorded so many times. But the care and attention given to Mum is very good, she is happy and comfortable and even gets out in a chair for lunch which is amazing progress and on a few occasions with carer's encouragement has fed herself. We’re very pleased with Mum's care and the standard of the nursing home care and cleanliness is excellent. The laundry service is also excellent. I would strongly recommend Monread Lodge to anyone who wants good care.

My mum was admitted to Monread in mid-July and in one week I made the decision to move her as the care in my opinion was disgraceful.
Firstly there are some nice staff but that’s as far as it goes!
Firstly the room mum was allocated smelt of urine which having refused to leave her there was soon
remedied.
My mum was always left in a wheelchair when I specifically told them not to do that. Her care plan which I wrote with some specifics was not shared in a timely way, let alone shared and followed. Her diabetes was left uncontrolled without due care to seek advice from the community diabetic team. I know this because I checked. This is despite me requesting them to do this.
The reception phone was answered twice by an elderly resident who told me the nurses had gone home and they were locked in. Why on earth is this happening? Lack of showering, and cleaning dentures.
I have raised this to social services as a serious quality of care complaint.

My sister, who had a learning disability, was placed here when she needed more care than her previous supported living home could provide. She was only at Monread Lodge for a few months before she sadly died, but in that time she was very well and kindly cared for, and they were very good at letting
me know when anything happened. I think what impressed me most was the clear indications that all the staff really cared about her, and the way they really tried to make her life more interesting and stimulating, despite it being no easy task. There is a lovely easy atmosphere about the place, and other residents appear relaxed and happy. The food is very good too, and they bother with little touches like napkins and flowers on the tables in the dining room. I am so grateful that County placed her here, and have no hesitation in recommending this lovely place to anyone

The home is always clean and tidy. Residents all look cared for. The staff are all friendly, cheerful and caring, always busy with attending to the needs of residents. The food is really good. Overall, the atmosphere is calm and inviting, residents are included in activities. Laundry service is good
- clothes returned clean and neatly pressed. A really first-class care team from the top to the often forgotten cleaners and kitchen staff and maintenance.

I was informed immediately mum was taken to the hospital and upon her return after an overnight stay. We then discussed all our concerns and how to improve things. We moved her to another room the same afternoon and were kept updated on her progress. The staff are always helpful, thoughtful and caring

My Dad was lucky enough to be sent to Monread Lodge Care Home from hospital for palliative care, and even though it was a short stay due to his ill health, I have to say that the care he was provided during this time was really great. Having to send a love one to a care home is a stressful point in
people's lives but knowing he was in a place where he would be looked after so well makes the transition that little bit easier to deal with. I can't speak highly enough of the team at Monread and I appreciate everything they did for my Dad.

Despite my initial reluctance that my husband should go into a care home, he was transferred to Monread Lodge when his health and mobility deteriorated such that I couldn't care for him as I used to. However, I needn't have worried. My first impression of Monread Lodge was of the warm and friendly atmosphere
and the lovely staff who were so caring for my husband. He had quite a few health problems, but the staff always acted very promptly and professionally whenever an episode occurred. I have nothing but praise for them.

Lovely, friendly staff who are doing a wonderful job caring for my father. His main carer messages me with updates and answers my queries, providing reassurance when I'm unable to visit as often as I'd like. I also need to mention the delicious food, which my father very much appreciates, and I can

The visit was very good. Had a chat with the deputy manager, very nice and welcoming. The home is always nice and clean and the staff seem very organised and caring.
