Located in Letchworth, MHA Trembaths holds a special place as the first nursing home opened by MHA in 1989, setting a trend as the first care home in the UK’s first garden city. The home provide nursing, residential dementia and palliative care for 51 residents.

For nature lovers, the open countryside and Green Way are just a short walk from the home. The beautifully landscaped gardens, reminiscent of a country estate, surround the home, offering residents stunning views from every window. Dad was 97 and very poorly. I noticed a change in him each visit. The staff were excellent. They kept regular checks on him, and on days I didn't visit if there was a problem they would phone me at home. It was also nice that staff, as they finished their shifts, would pop in and see Dad before they
left. I found this very comforting. If I stayed any length of time, I could help myself to tea and the kitchen would provide a sandwich. I felt I was being looked after as well as Dad. When Dad passed, he went quietly and with dignity. He will be missed by staff and management. Many thanks to you all.

Trembaths have always had my father's needs dealt with in a quick and professional manner.
He was cared for and looked after in a way any daughter would want their parent to be looked after.
With respect, dignity and in some cases, where the staff were concerned, loved.
He couldn't have been in a
better caring place. Unlike his last one.

Trembath looks and feels/like a good care home. Staff are friendly, facilities are good and the activities for active residents are varied, regular and excellent.
Generally care for mobile/active residents is fair, especially if they do not require assistance for personal care etc.
However, as resident
become more reliant on staff for their care, Trembaths struggles to be able to provide the care needed. This is not a reflection of all the staff, some are exceptional and are holding up the rest of the home. From experience of spending long lengths of time at Trembaths as a visitor and volunteer, it became evident that the care staff were able to deliver was patchy. Residents are left unattended, medication was not always administered as prescribed, staff became dependent on visitors to take care of their own relatives. Communications regarding residents care requirements were often lacking. The CQC report has picked up some key issues but does not reflect the depth of these issues or other concerns.

Staff are always ready to listen and discuss any concerns, many will go the extra mile. Relations are respected and acknowledged.


My mother has only been at Trembaths since February but I remember our welcome on that first day. Members of staff met us at the door, I stayed all day setting her up.

Little things were put in her room to make it welcoming.


The organised activities and trips out are great. The quality of food cooked on the premises is generally a good standard. I wish to make a special mention to the 'handyman'. He not only does his own work but many other things. His care shown to the residents is wonderful. A credit to Trembaths.

This is a superb care home. We are very pleased with the overall care end service given to our relative. The recently appointed Manager has been very kind and the Direct Care Assistant who looks after our relative has been excellent.

Was given an emergency respite bed for my father and so glad it was here. Staff are so friendly and can't be more helpful and made my dad very comfortable. Rooms have all you need and very clean. Food is excellent and as much as the residents want. I stayed whilst they had a quiz which helped with memories
and then a singalong which my dad joined in with. Lots to keep residents happy and anything they are interested in is taken into consideration. Can't recommend this lovely place enough. Well done all at Trembaths!

My father was resident in Trembaths for 10 months. Aged 89, he arrived after discharge from hospital, having suffered a major stroke. He had limited mental and physical capability, so he required hands-on nursing and personal care. Throughout his time at Trembaths, he received a high level of care from
all staff - Nurses and Carers especially. His care was delivered diligently and sensitively and efforts were always made to improve his quality of life by involving him in activities wherever possible. Being a religious man, he especially appreciated the regular weekly services, as well as bedside visits from the chaplains to sing and share readings and prayers with him.
As and when there were issues with his health I felt that the nursing staff were on top of things and proactive in calling in the doctor when they felt it necessary. I was always kept informed of issues too, which was reassuring given that I live abroad.
I have no hesitation in recommending Trembaths.

The accommodation offers fantastic all round care under difficult individual circumstances. I feel at times the residents are left on their own a little too much in the communal areas by no fault of the carers, this is mainly due to staff shortages and when two are required for individual needs.
The
residents are entertained with different activities and on a regular basis including visiting the hairdressers. The food seems to be enjoyed and is good. Well done to all the carers fantastic job.

Mother incapable of writing- management is in the process of being changed which is good as the past manager had changed too often, no good for staff running of the home, families and residents. On the whole, the staff are great, the people who stood out are the entertainer and hairdresser. The cleaners
are very good and friendly. Mother is being well looked after if she wasn't she would not be alive at 101! When a job needs doing they are always willing to help. There are niggly complaints from time to time but that's all.

Staff have been very supportive and very honest and open with us about mum's needs and progress/regression since she has been there. They try to involve as many as possible in the activities but when family are there they don't push it and allow privacy and family time. They always celebrate special
occasions for residents and genuinely take the time to get to know each resident and their likes/dislikes and cater to that as much as possible. They provide one on one as much as they can but unfortunately as they are not flush with staff it is not as much as we would like to see but they try their best. The home is well looked after and the food quality and variety is excellent. Highly recommended.

My mum went into Trembaths four months ago under fairly traumatic circumstances after a fall, she just wanted to go home but it wasn't possible. She has been quite a challenge but the staff have been wonderful, kind, patient, caring and sympathetic with us all.
We couldn't ask for mum to be in a better
place, she is being cared for by a fabulous team of experienced, happy and caring people.
Trembaths is a happy and calm place to be and we feel very lucky that a place was available when we needed it.
We can never thank you enough for all you do and always with a smile. We always knew it was the right place for our mum after our visit earlier in the year when we visited local care homes for people with dementia.

I would like to express my sincere thanks to all the staff at Trembaths for the care, kindness, patience and dignity they give to our mum. It has been a tough few months since mum went to live at Trembaths but the staff have all been so supportive and very kind. As a family we are so very glad that
mum is now safe and very well cared for by a wonderful team and we would like to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.
Trembaths seems to be very well run and there is always someone on hand and with time to discuss things with you. It is always so lovely and clean (without that 'care home smell') and has a peaceful, calmness about it. There are always plenty of activities going on to stimulate the residents and family members are always welcome to join in these activities.

From the moment my father and I walked through the door we have both been made welcome and supported. Finding the right home for your parent is hard as well as the great feeling of guilt. The transition for my dad was made easier as the staff took time to find out about him. He has always been treated
with respect and dignity. The staff are fantastic and Trembaths now feels like home for both of us. The food looks really good and is prepared on site using fresh ingredients. I would highly recommend Trembaths.

My wife has dementia and was admitted to Trembaths on the 4th of Jan 2015, she became unable to stand at home and I needed a care home to look after her. She settled in very well and has been looked after in the dementia unit by caring attentive and well trained staff. Her needs are attended to and
everyone is most considerate with the increasing demands of dementia. I had previously visited 5 care homes in the area to see how they performed. This was my best choice. The home was in the process of appointing a replacement manager during the period my wife was admitted.

My mother has been a resident at Trembaths for over six months now and I am really pleased with her care. She settled in really quickly and easily and she has a lovely room with her own en-suite. Her room is cleaned daily including clean towels and bedding. The staff are all lovely and mum has got to
know them all and is really comfortable with them. Mum was really thin when she went into Trembaths as she didn't eat very well living on her own, but now has put on a little weight and looks really well and healthy.
Although mum doesn't join in with a lot of activities just yet, there are a good range of daily activities at Trembaths and even some outings. Mum likes to attend the church service they hold there once a week. I do honestly feel that mum is happy and well cared for at Trembaths and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a care home for their loved one.
