This attractive and professionally managed care home rated Outstanding in ‘Well Led’ by the Care Quality Commission in January 2020, has been supporting the local community of Ware for over fifteen years. Established and purpose-built with a positive reputation, Westgate House Care Centre offers quality nursing, residential, rehabilitation and dementia care in a peaceful but central location.

The long-standing home manager, who has been in post for over five years, leads an effective and stable staff group. This, and exceptional in-house training, ensures a skilled and responsive care team to meet the changing individual needs and expectations of every resident. With a caring and compassionate team, where nothing is too much trouble to help residents settle into their new home, the family ethos and the warm relationships the staff achieve are greatly valued by both residents and visitors.

Westgate House has some highly attractive and charming themed day areas in which to relax or socialise; these include the Garden Café – a firm favourite for those who like to enjoy a coffee and chat with the morning paper, the Cinema room, a Reminiscence room, and Café Pierre. Comfortable bedrooms have their own ensuite toilets and washbasins and the home’s showers and bathrooms are newly refurbished.

There are a number of outdoor spaces including a sensory courtyard for residents to benefit from and a separate garden for spending time with friends and relatives.

The facilities have been designed to enhance resident care and quality of life, to optimise cleanliness and help minimise the spread of any infections; this includes a natural ventilation system, wood effect flooring, hand washing facilities in every room and the use of hand gel dispensers throughout the home.

My aunt was in Westgate for 2 years and we visited at different times. On entry to reception, there was always a warm welcome. All facilities, her room, food etc were of a high standard. From management to cleaners, all staff were polite and helpful. This care home I would definitely recommend.

Both my Mum and Dad are residents at this Care Home.


The care they both receive on a daily basis is excellent. Every member of the care team provides excellent service.


I score the home highly in every category ... but it is difficult to comment on the value for money aspect ... both my parents

are self-funding and my Mum has recently been declined Continuing Health Care by the NHS. As a result, my parents monthly care bills are £8000 !!


If my parents had their care paid for/or received funding assistance, I would have no hesitation in saying it was great value for money ... but in these circumstances, I can't really comment.

My mother was suffering from parkinson's disease and dementia and was transferred from hospital, bed bound following a disinfection. Only in Westgate for 3 and a half months, first 7 weeks, mum very confused and with the staff's patience and excellent care she became very settled and enjoyed living
here.
All the medical and caring staff handled her complicated medical condition very well and were excellent at handling the medical services, neurological consultant, parkinson's nurse dementia nurse, wheelchair service, physio and local GP.
All staff at home were caring, helpful and very supportive to residents and relatives. I have no complaints on any front, died in home and treated with utmost dignity and care.

My father stayed at Westgate Care Centre for about four weeks before he sadly passed away. The building appears well designed and rooms are a good size and there are several communal lounges on each floor for residents to go to. The building appears well maintained and clean, it does not feel like
an institutional building like some care homes. The en suite toilets have good access, there are also large bathrooms for supported washing. The care staff I encountered appeared friendly and helpful, although they were sometimes difficult to find. The staff to resident ratio does not appear great but probably average. My dad reported that the staff were nice but waiting times after the call bell was pushed could be prolonged. Food appeared good quality and the menu choice was also good. There are visiting occupational therapist and physiotherapist with a gym and kitchen. Overall would I recommend Westgate? Yes I would.

Westgate house care home cared for my lovely Nanny for 3 years, she suffered from ill health and dementia. All the staff at Westgate are amazing, kind, friendly and so loving to all the residents. From the nurses to the cleaners and everybody in between, we couldn't have asked for better care for our
nanny. She was looked after and loved by all the staff just as her family would have. We cannot thank everybody at Westgate enough for all you did for our wonderful Nan who sadly passed a few weeks ago.

Good welcome. Pleasant and helpful staff. Staff carers not always help when needed due to shortage. Good menu but food not always hot. Often after meal drink forgotten. Rehab staff very helpful. Good facilities in home. Problem with maintenance - took over a week to get w.c flush repaired. Situated
in a pleasant, quiet area. Helpful to visitors. In general much better than some homes I've heard about.
