This attractive and professionally managed care home rated Outstanding in ‘Well Led’ by the Care Quality Commission in January 2020, has been supporting the local community of Ware for over fifteen years. Established and purpose-built with a positive reputation, Westgate House Care Centre offers quality nursing, residential, rehabilitation and dementia care in a peaceful but central location.

The long-standing home manager, who has been in post for over five years, leads an effective and stable staff group. This, and exceptional in-house training, ensures a skilled and responsive care team to meet the changing individual needs and expectations of every resident. With a caring and compassionate team, where nothing is too much trouble to help residents settle into their new home, the family ethos and the warm relationships the staff achieve are greatly valued by both residents and visitors.

Westgate House has some highly attractive and charming themed day areas in which to relax or socialise; these include the Garden Café – a firm favourite for those who like to enjoy a coffee and chat with the morning paper, the Cinema room, a Reminiscence room, and Café Pierre. Comfortable bedrooms have their own ensuite toilets and washbasins and the home’s showers and bathrooms are newly refurbished.

There are a number of outdoor spaces including a sensory courtyard for residents to benefit from and a separate garden for spending time with friends and relatives.

The facilities have been designed to enhance resident care and quality of life, to optimise cleanliness and help minimise the spread of any infections; this includes a natural ventilation system, wood effect flooring, hand washing facilities in every room and the use of hand gel dispensers throughout the home.

I can't praise Westgate Care Centre enough. It's well run, the staff are wonderful and I never have to worry that my husband isn't getting good care. Lots of activities for residents and the food is of a good standard.

Excellent facilities, everyone very friendly. All the staff are always there to help, so friendly and nice, I like the service in the morning. I could not walk when I arrived but I am now walking after two weeks. It's like a home from home. I could not have had better treatment. Thank you, everyone.

Dad was transferred from the hospital to the rehabilitation unit at Westgate where he received excellent care and was quite sad to leave everyone six weeks later. The care manager and physio team did an excellent job and everyone was lovely to Dad. He particularly enjoyed the cinema and gym. I was kept
up to date at all times and felt almost like one of the team.

I have been here since 3rd January 2024 due to a serious accident. Had ankle pinned and was in plaster for ages then the boot and finally came home on 7th March 2024. The staff here were fantastic, the physio and her assistant were very patient and understanding. There is every bit of equipment at Westgate
that you can ever need. They encourage independence. Definitely recommend this place.

I found Westgate House Care Home very obliging and very helpful. The staff were all very polite and courteous. I would have like the physio person to have helped me with my legs but that did not fit in with her other commitments. Food, some was very nice, some not to my taste, most desserts very nice.
The tea person is always ready to make tea, as well as when the tea trolley came, they were always ready with biscuits and crisps. Overall I would say my stay at Westgate was very favourable and helpful.

My elderly mother stayed at this wonderful care home in December 2023 until the end of January 2024 due to having rehabilitation after having a nasty fall at home.
I cannot praise the team of professionals at this care home enough; they not only looked after my 90-year-old mother, but they also took
care of us, the family.
My mother is now awaiting a hip replacement, so I will be doing my best to get her back to this brilliant care home after her operation.
The staff helped my mother to walk and regain her confidence.
The aftercare has been amazing - calling myself and my mother to check in on her, ensuring that the care they have advised my mother's GP has been dealt with.
I would like to thank all of the staff at Westgate Care Home for absolutely everything.

Westgate House has been nursing my dad on the poppy unit during his final days. I cannot praise the staff in this establishment enough. My dad has had an extremely difficult few years regarding his health - it's only right that his final moments are filled with love, care, comfort, respect and dignity.
They have also been so hospitable and kind to my entire family and friends, even cancelling training that was supposed to be happening at the resource centre so we could all stay here to be there for Dad. Thank you so, so much!

I was extremely pleased with my experience at Westgate. All the staff were very helpful and very kind, the carers especially were so kind, they couldn't have been more helpful and kind. The only thing that I can complain about is the food. The food itself was acceptable but the food was always only
lukewarm and often really cold when it arrived from the kitchen. Apart from that I was very happy with the whole experience.

My elderly mother-in-law arrived not being able to walk in a distressed state. Very quickly the staff assessed her needs and began her rehabilitation. Within days they gave her a positive attitude and she began walking with their help. Physio, carers, cleaners and nurses are all fantastic and we cannot

I was in Westgate House Care Centre for 11 weeks from April until July. The carers were all extremely kind, helpful and friendly. The cleaners were also very pleasant people.
The exercise classes helped me to strengthen my muscles and directly afterwards we all went to have lunch. This made a nice
group to chat to and I felt part of the everyday life in the home. On Friday afternoons I was taken outside for activities when the weather was good which I found very uplifting.

My experience of the service has been excellent. It was caring, considerate, helpful and kind. I was especially grateful to the staff in assisting when two groups of visiting family members from the USA, they made both occasions memorable for me and my darling husband. Both groups we had not seen for
many years, over 40 years for the first group and 12 years for the second.

Nancy has been the manager of Westgate House since 2014. Having worked in the Health and Social Care field for 30 years in a variety of roles and environments, Nancy has had the platform to develop Westgate House in to a home that has a CQC ‘Good’ rating along with a fantastic staff team who support each other in making Westgate House an enjoyable place to live and work.
