This attractive and professionally managed care home rated Outstanding in ‘Well Led’ by the Care Quality Commission in January 2020, has been supporting the local community of Ware for over fifteen years. Established and purpose-built with a positive reputation, Westgate House Care Centre offers quality nursing, residential, rehabilitation and dementia care in a peaceful but central location.

The long-standing home manager, who has been in post for over five years, leads an effective and stable staff group. This, and exceptional in-house training, ensures a skilled and responsive care team to meet the changing individual needs and expectations of every resident. With a caring and compassionate team, where nothing is too much trouble to help residents settle into their new home, the family ethos and the warm relationships the staff achieve are greatly valued by both residents and visitors.

Westgate House has some highly attractive and charming themed day areas in which to relax or socialise; these include the Garden Café – a firm favourite for those who like to enjoy a coffee and chat with the morning paper, the Cinema room, a Reminiscence room, and Café Pierre. Comfortable bedrooms have their own ensuite toilets and washbasins and the home’s showers and bathrooms are newly refurbished.

There are a number of outdoor spaces including a sensory courtyard for residents to benefit from and a separate garden for spending time with friends and relatives.

The facilities have been designed to enhance resident care and quality of life, to optimise cleanliness and help minimise the spread of any infections; this includes a natural ventilation system, wood effect flooring, hand washing facilities in every room and the use of hand gel dispensers throughout the home.

My mum stayed at Westgate House Care Centre for rehabilitation for four weeks after having a fall at home. She was cared for by fantastic carer staff at Westgate, who were friendly, efficient and communicative with her. She enjoyed her stay and made a really good recovery.
Everyone working at Westgate
was lovely and very caring. It is a great place for rehab. Thank you, Westgate.

Mum was very happy during her rehabilitation time in Westgate House. Contact from members of staff was very helpful. We found it was very clean in Bluebell where she was staying. The staff were very efficient.

Excellent care and kindness in support of my mother’s rehabilitation. Accommodation and food quality was of a high standard. Staff are friendly and demonstrate passion and enjoyment in their work.
Only observation for potential improvement is greater encouragement and support for participation in the
programme of daily events and activities. The lack of mental and social stimulation has not helped my mother’s impaired cognitive state with the past two months showing a significant deterioration. At the weekend there is no opportunity for socialisation with immobile residents stuck in their rooms. Staff do their best, but perhaps resources aren’t sufficient to support greater coordination of these activities.
Overall, a very good experience and a well-managed facility with great people who enjoy their work.

My mother came to your care home for rehab after a stay in hospital following breaking her arm. She then stayed on for three months as a private care user. During her time with you, she was looked after extremely well and I found the home very efficiently run. All the staff were very caring and they
organised a wonderful 100th birthday party for her which was much appreciated. A big thank you to all concerned.

Very pleasant stay except for getting Covid. However, I found the heat overpowering, and the bedroom window does not open wide. The bedroom lighting is poor, and I was unable to read in the evening. The bed light I could not out on when I was in bed.

A very friendly environment. The staff are always very polite and extremely helpful. The care my mum received was excellent. I was kept informed of her condition on the days I was not able to visit. The staff were very considerate and helpful when I went to collect her belongings after she passed away.

My aunt was admitted to Westgate House in May 2022, and remained there until her recent passing. I have to say that I couldn't have imagined better care in her time there. The staff were always kind and attentive to her needs and kept me informed and up to date on her care and needs. The facility itself
is modern and well-maintained. I can honestly say that it was a great comfort to know my aunt was cared for so well in her time there. My thanks to Westgate House and their staff for all their efforts over the past year.

My friend was in Westgate House Care Centre for four weeks having spent nearly three months in hospital. During this time he was well cared for and all his needs were met by all the staff, he was made comfortable, nothing was too much trouble for them. The care and support was second to none for which
I am very grateful. The kindness shown when he passed away unexpectedly was a great comfort.

My mother spent her final weeks in the care of Westgate House. I cannot praise enough the care she was given. All the staff were kind, friendly, patient, careful, unintrusive, and professional. The 2nd floor is quiet, peaceful, clean, and pleasantly decorated. There is a nice, calm atmosphere and a
comfy lounge to spend time in. My dog was welcomed, which surprised us. My dog and I spent many long days sitting in my mother's room. I was never made to feel that we were in the way or a nuisance, and I was often offered refreshments. I never overheard any shouting or impatience or unkindness. Efforts were continually made to make palatable foods that my mother could eat. The nurses took great care of her health needs and were keen to spot and deal with any new problems. We are very lucky to have been in the care of Westgate House for these past six weeks - and such incredibly important weeks. I will never be able to thank Westgate House enough for being our refuge in the storm.

Overall experience was good. Meals were generally served lukewarm, not very appetising. Portions were very small. The quality of food could be improved which would result in less waste. Better and hotter food would have been more enjoyable and give me more energy for a speedier recovery.

Amazing staff and care provision provided at Westgate House Care Centre, Mum-in-law’s recovery following a fall couldn’t have been managed any better than this.
The rehab team offered incredibly effective support throughout and when it was time to discharge, Mum-in-law was full of confidence and had

Mum was quickly assessed by the whole team and an action place was put in place. The staff were friendly and mostly efficient. The food was hit and miss but dinner was far too early at 4.45 pm when breakfast was at 9 am. The physiotherapist was excellent, knowledgeable, encouraging and informative.

My aunt was very well cared for at Westgate House. The facilities are clean and up to date. The staff are kind and friendly, nothing is too much trouble and they always answered my questions and any concerns to do with my aunt. Visiting times are very flexible, sadly my aunt's condition was terminal,
but I am happy that she spent her last few weeks in such a safe, warm and caring environment. Thank you Westgate House.

My mum has been a resident now for nearly three years due to a mobility problem and continues to be very happy and well looked after. When you enter Westgate there is always a very warm welcome which is so important. I have found the staff on the floor to be so kind and helpful to mum and she is very
fond of them. If you have a concern they will do their best to resolve the problem. I visit mum regularly and although I miss her living with us when I leave her I know she is happy and confident with the care and kindness given. I cannot thank everyone enough.
