This attractive and professionally managed care home rated Outstanding in ‘Well Led’ by the Care Quality Commission in January 2020, has been supporting the local community of Ware for over fifteen years. Established and purpose-built with a positive reputation, Westgate House Care Centre offers quality nursing, residential, rehabilitation and dementia care in a peaceful but central location.

The long-standing home manager, who has been in post for over five years, leads an effective and stable staff group. This, and exceptional in-house training, ensures a skilled and responsive care team to meet the changing individual needs and expectations of every resident. With a caring and compassionate team, where nothing is too much trouble to help residents settle into their new home, the family ethos and the warm relationships the staff achieve are greatly valued by both residents and visitors.

Westgate House has some highly attractive and charming themed day areas in which to relax or socialise; these include the Garden Café – a firm favourite for those who like to enjoy a coffee and chat with the morning paper, the Cinema room, a Reminiscence room, and Café Pierre. Comfortable bedrooms have their own ensuite toilets and washbasins and the home’s showers and bathrooms are newly refurbished.

There are a number of outdoor spaces including a sensory courtyard for residents to benefit from and a separate garden for spending time with friends and relatives.

The facilities have been designed to enhance resident care and quality of life, to optimise cleanliness and help minimise the spread of any infections; this includes a natural ventilation system, wood effect flooring, hand washing facilities in every room and the use of hand gel dispensers throughout the home.

Westgate House have been excellent right through reception to care staff. I cannot fault anything. They looked after my mum with compassion and dignity. We didn't have any worries with our mum due to the excellent staff at Westgate House.

I was transferred to Westgate House Care Centre from hospital for rehab after spending almost five weeks in the hospital. I found the home very clean and welcoming. All the staff were very professional and extremely friendly, nothing was too much trouble.

I came to Westgate from the hospital - on one occasion to recover from a broken arm. Then subsequently to recover from an operation - on both occasions, I found all the staff extremely kind and caring. They were thoughtful of my situation and treated me with dignity and respect. I would have no hesitation

My lovely mum is in Westgate House and it was my Dad's 60th Anniversary. Mum has dementia so she doesn’t know this. But I cannot thank the Primrose Unit enough for making it as special as they could. My husband was discharged from hospital to the home, under health/social care Covid regulations and so I did not have a choice of the care home he was placed in. This, plus the inability to enter the home, to view the facilities and to meet staff and to only be able to visit him occasionally outside,
was concerning and stressful. Over time, however, it became apparent that he was well cared for and that staff had worked hard to understand his needs - as he was unable to communicate these due to his dementia - and to address them. When it became clear that my husband was nearing the end of his life, the staff made every effort to keep me updated and to facilitate extra visits. The unit manager, in particular, could not have been more supportive. I am thankful for the professional, respectful and dignified care the staff provided.

My stepmum was a resident from the beginning of COVID lockdown 2020. Such a difficult time for residents, families and staff. They have been so kind to everyone. My stepmum said they helped her with everything - nothing too much trouble, and with dignity at all times. She was comfortable being there.
The staff were extremely helpful at all times. When it came near to her passing, they encouraged us to call whenever we felt the need to. They weren't just caring for my stepmum, but for us too. They were genuinely upset too when she did pass. A great team! Thank you so much.

I went there for rehabilitation after surgery on my leg, although the home is primarily for the elderly and I am only 45. The staff and management on the first floor where I was staying, I have to say, were excellent and didn't make it feel like I was staying in an old people's home.

My Dad was transferred from hospital to Westgate for rehabilitation after breaking his hip just before Christmas. Unfortunately, he had other health problems which required more end of life care, rather than rehabilitation. All the staff were fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble. Communication between
staff and myself was excellent, despite these unprecedented times and the fact they had a big problem with their telephone system, staff resorted to using their personal phones. Took great comfort in knowing he received the best possible end of life care. We thank them from the bottom of our hearts.

Sent to Westgate House Care Centre for mobilisation rehab. Physio was very good but there were not enough sessions to make a difference/improvement. Went home less mobile. Presumably because of Covid there was very little socialising so spent too much time sat in the chair all day. Needed to be mobilised
which did not happen.

It was a very difficult decision to place mum into care. In particular, in our circumstances that she had lived with the family for nine years. Westgate House has an amazing staff who are compassionate, take the time to get to know each resident individually to be able to meet their individual requirements
with attention to detail and to make them feel this is now their home. Without a doubt, Mum has bonded with several staff members and is relaxed and happy in her environment. She will often say how nice it is and how well she is looked after. The home is exceptionally well run. Mum's room always looks lovely as does she. From the family's perspective, the staff are always approachable. Can always answer any question asked and make us very welcome on our visits. I would like to take this opportunity of thanking the staff of Westgate House for making Mum happy at this point in her life.

I can not recommend this nursing home enough, my Mum was in the north for 10 weeks and transferred to Westgate 3 weeks ago. The communication is fantastic and I got to speak to the manager of Mum's floor to arrange a visit. They call you back and keep you in the loop and I finally got a visit last week.
My mum looked beautiful, her hair was the best I have seen in years, and this is thanks to the ladies getting her ready for a visit, the nurse that brought her down was so attentive, it brought a tear to my eyes. I can not thank them enough for their total care. 5-star all the way.

My husband has been in Westgate for over 9 years with advanced dementia. The staff are caring and very supportive of him and all the family. He is treated with dignity and the utmost respect which is so important in a disease like dementia. The professionalism, compassion, and skill of all the staff
have been so evident in the way the coronavirus pandemic has been managed and they have done their utmost (and beyond) to protect and care for my husband and the other residents. The staff are friendly and easy to approach and any concerns I have are generally dealt with as soon as is feasibly possible. I am so grateful that my husband is being cared for in such a home with all his complex needs.

My mum has been a resident at Westgate house for two years. She has severe dementia but Westgate has become her family and her safe haven. She settled in extremely quickly and is very happy. All of the staff treat her with respect and dignity and recognise her as an individual and understand her personality
very well. There are a lot of activities and social gatherings that go on within the home which go unrecognised as dementia residents are unable to relay to relatives exactly what they have done from week to week. But it is obvious that my mum is relaxed and happy within the home environment.

My dad has been a Resident at Westgate since November 2018, he is very happy and well cared for. Nothing is too much trouble, the nurses and carers treat him with respect and dignity and cater for his every need. Westgate is kept to a very high standard and I would highly recommend. Everyone is professional
and friendly, myself and my family always feel welcomed when we visit.
Recently my dad had his 90th Birthday, sadly due to the virus we could not celebrate with him, Westgate gave him a lovely surprise and even faced timed us so we could speak to him, it was lovely.
I can only say a big thank you for all the care, respect and kindess they show my dad.

Since Mum became a resident in the dementia unit 2 and a half years ago, Westgate House has become like a second home to me. The staff, relatives and residents have become like an extended family. This is a care home where everyone looks after each other. The staff really do care and often go above
and beyond what is required of them. They are friendly, approachable and supportive and Mum has been treated with the kindness, respect and dignity that she really deserves.
Westgate House is well run and has good facilities for residents and visiting families. The living areas are clean and bright and well maintained. The food is really good and there is plenty of variety. Families are also engaged in the day to day run of the home via quarterly meetings with management.
I can’t thank the staff enough for the lengths they have gone to taking care of Mum and keeping her safe during the current CoVid19 crisis.
If you are looking for a home which cares I can thoroughly recommend Westgate House.

A few months ago the Home had a CQC Review. I have read this report which is a very detailed inspection of the entire Home. The results were "Outstanding and Good".
Before the general lockdown, the home had started their own safety procedure, all visitors had to wash their hands and the visiting was
then suspended days before the Government announced lockdown. This illustrates the details to protect the staff and residents. Extra precautions were taken for all the staff on entering and leaving the home.
Unfortunately, there was a time delay in relatives having any general news from the home but then a Zoom meeting for relatives with the Directors and Management was arranged and after that, there have been weekly updates and WhatsApp videos arranged for relatives and their loved one.
I am very pleased with the care and attention given to my wife and the very caring staff in these very difficult times and I know all precautions are being taken to keep this virus out of the home.
